The lack of 4x4 MIMO on both 2.4 & 6 GHz is a deal killer for me, especially at this price. I really would have expected AT LEAST 4x4 MIMO on all the bands (like my U6-LR), if not even going up to 6x6 or 8x8 MIMO on both 5 & 6 GHz
@andreas7944
@andreas7944 3 месяца назад
It is not enirely based on greed. With 2x2 on 6Ghz, you can already get up to 5765 Mbps. That is twice as much, as the uplink can handle. Since we all know how to interpret that number, it is a fair throughput to uplink ratio. If you want to go with 5gbit uplink, your total costs and energy consumption will go up, without providing a matching benefit. It is simply not worth it. Just go with 2 APs and set them to low power, that will not only provide better throughput, it also improves your wifi coverage. But for the 2x2 on 2.4ghz - yeah, that is just cheaping out. But since I live in a dense area, the 2,4Ghz spectrum is around 45% occupied and I would not benefit from 4x4.

I wouldn't buy any Release 1 Wi-Fi 7 stuff; it's missing some juicy bits of the full Wi-Fi 7 standard that are only coming in Release 2: advanced AP coordination (coordinated beamforming, joint transmission), HARQ, significant latency improvements, etc.. These are overpriced because UI are shoe-horning a development platform (pre-Release 1) into a shipping commercial device: it was never designed to scale. Just look at Ubiquiti's earliest Wi-Fi 6 stuff.

Got 2x U7 Pro Max 2 days agon. Nice devices, lightning fast. The spectrum visualizer is nice to check for free channels and optimize spectrum distribution. But those boys get HOOOOTTTTT, almost burning hot in fact. Don't put them flat on a surface, make sure there is room at the flat side in between the device and whatever it is on. They need about 10-12W under normal (mostly idle) usage.Albeit there were that hot, I didn't hear any fan, nor was it evident if it even runs/ran. They were absolutely easy to adopt and integrate (with me they replaced 2x AP-AC-HDs and 1xAP-AC-nano HD. The nano is not necessary anymore, because the range is imho better. If you have questions, ask.

None of the U7 series have Bluetooth for management and connectivity to their line of Protect environmental sensors. Is Ubiquiti planning for its cameras to provide connectivity for the sensors? On the surface, at least, that appears like a lame cost-cutting move. I would pay for the Bluetooth LE radio. I'm hoping someone can tell me why this is a good thing.

Even if the uplink is limited to 2.5 GbE, the faster WiFi speeds can reduce the latency and overhead for local traffic and communication within the network. Remember, these devices are primarily produced for deployments in high-density environments (i.e., 500+ client devices). Your point is valid, but this product is not intended to address that particular use case. For enthusiast like us, we would indeed benefit from 10GbE uplinks like the legacy UAP-XG has-perhaps Unifi will release a WiFi 7 version in the future, but even then it's configured for high-density environments, which is why the price is so high. I'm sure there is a market for 10GbE WiFi 7 AP's for low-density environments, but Ubiquiti doesn't target those markets.

I have this AP the 6 ghz is really fast if you are in the same room with it or one wall away. Any further and you loose speed and modulation. My mobile phone falls back to 5 ghz and is faster at distance. These are for high density applications in a small space. If you have a lot of interference in your area the 6 ghz is going to help. I suspect once these get popular like 2.4 and 5 ghz hardware today it is just a matter of time before folks pollute the spectrum with ultra wide channel widths. The device only has a 2.5 gbps port why use larger channels? Still nothing beats a good old ethernet cable or direct fiber connection.

Dude, it does not matter if you have WIFI7. 6Ghz is also available in Wifi6e. WIFI7 enables you to use those spectrums in parallel instead as alternatives, therefore mounting it on a level, where it has to pass at least one thick barrier might not make sense. If the floor is not affecting the signal - fine, but 6ghz does not go through barriers as good as 5ghz. But if you considered that and it is the best location, I would love to know strongly it affects the signal compared to 5ghz.

Very odd to install in the attic ... That greatly reduces the higher frequency performance. This is odd.

Nah, they'll punch through a ceiling or non-concrete wall easy enough.

I am very new to home/business networking. If I do not own an ubiquiti ecosystem, but want to add wifi 7, does it make sense to get this access point? Do I lose features for not pairing it with a dream machine and brining my own router and switch? Do I have access to all this spectrum analysis info only with the AP?

You’re in luck! I have a ‘UniFi Basics’ video coming out next week!

You can get the APs to work well (fast, most features) with just the AP and your smart phone. Adding a controller lets you do things like roaming and centralised management of multiple APs. I don't run their switches but that would let me configure traffic isolation in a simple way. Don't expect everything on the spec sheet to be enabled at product release but they are good at adding software support with updates.

Looking forward to the video. Found your channel a week ago and learned quite a bit from it. Thank you

Thank you for the reply, Michael. Can you still do VLAN tagging if you only own the AP? I will look more into the smartphone interface. Thank you for the hint
