Good video. The game doesn't really make it clear but if you use advanced interface, for the control groups and better auto economy options, then you just hold LT and RT together at the same time for the LB function find menu. Also, you can set 12 control groups, instead of 8, by going through your settings and changing max control groups. I hope this helps. Keep up the good work.

You can also set up waypoints on the mini-map by clicking down the RS while you're navigating it. Then, by flicking the RS, you jump from waypoint to waypoint.

I’ve known about these games since I was a kid, I tried it for the first time last night and I can tell I’m about to love it, last strategy game I was big into was halo wars 1 and 2 and I feel a lot of similarities in how things work in aoe2, much more In depth than halo wars though obviously. Can’t wait to sink some time in on this game

Nice video. Really helpful knowing how to make use of control groups. Didn't know it was a setting in the options menu. Could you do a video on how to use priests effectively? I find it really clunky to toggle between healing and if I want them to convert units which doesn't seem to happen when I want them to. Maybe I'm missing a step? Thanks in advance :)

I did a bit of research on priests last night, for most units they have to make a minimum of 3 attempts before they can get a chance to convert them, and it's a certain percentage chance per attempt

Great vid. Last time I played an RTS was Rise of Nations 20 years ago but I am getting back in via Xbox. Is unit micro (during battles)as important in AoE? if so, a great tutorial would be unit micro and battle with a controller :D

6:34 I have been looking for a way to select all units EXCEPT my siege units. I’ll be trying to defend my trebuchets with my units around them and I can’t navigate the units quickly without selecting the trebs also. Holding left on d pad selects them as well.

Your comment is 3 months old, so you’ve probably figured it out, but when I try to defend my trebs say from a horse rush, I’ll use, (Left Trigger “hold” , Up on the D-Pad) to select all my infantry units which are usually Halbs against horses. This selects all, then move over/ next to my trebs, then change them to stand ground, so they will all crowd the trebs.

I find control group most useful myself, but others may have other methods, such as selecting specific types of units as well

Is there a way to do archer micro with stop? Cant figure out if theres an easy way to order units to stop. Obviosly focus fire micro is out with a controller but maybe stop micro is possible.

I’m having a problem with what you went over at 06:49 for some reason, even if I hold down A, it still only selects 1 military unit of that type. It worked when I first had the game but now it doesn’t. I’ve noticed that I can still select all buildings, but the military units only select 1. Any ideas? Any help is much appreciated 🙏 my friends and I all play together and have noticed this issue recently and I can’t seem to find a solution anywhere

🚩I have a problem/question. I cannot change diplomacy from ally to enemy, it just reverts back to ally again whenever I change it in the diplomacy tab. (I click X button to untick the ally option there.) Any suggestions on what I should do? Is this a common bug or am I missing something? I can't complete the first mission of Gingis Khan due to this as it requires you to make war on one of the tribes, either Green or purple.

Just want to add a big tip you didn't mention, if you wanna select the same military unit of any kind just double click A button on that unit. Also if you click right stick you have pre set villager disruption which is a huge help for me.

Yes. Click the building, hold LT and press X on the same building to set the way point for them to garrison inside that building. ✌️

Upgrade your units. Additionally, use the Tech Tree for your civilization to plan your attacks. Some units are great for infantry, but at the same time, weak against archers. So, know your opponent, and counterattack.

If you don't feel like being aggressive and attacking and you just want to build your city practice building walls around your entire perimeter use markets to acquire Stone quickly and build castles to defend key strong points nothing will kill an army faster than two castles with archers in melee units nearby and you could literally just Farm your city for hours and not do anything at all the enemy will struggle to take down your city so as long they aren't using trebuchet

Cavalry > Archer > Infantry > Cavalry .._make sure you have plenty of different kinds of military units to counter whatever the ai has which is usually archers. Need plenty of villagers too I always have a few queued up and alot of houses everywhere for max pop.
