When I was a kid in the late 1960s, we used to go to Bowling Green specifically for Beech Bend Park. Admission was very cheap, maybe $0.15 per person, and we would camp for a few days. We did see Mammoth Cave during one of those trips, but mostly we came for the amusement park. We would swim in the Beech Bend's pool during the day and go to rides and midway in the evening. I guess Beech Bend is somewhat different today...
@@centralkentuckyliving I forgot to mention that, when I was at Purdue I worked at their NPR station, WBAA, where I worked with Barb Dubczek. She moved to Bowling Green, married and became Barbara Deeb, with a long career in TV and radio in Bowling Green.
Great video, I just love the Bowling Green area. I only make it to the area once every 5-8 years for family reunions. Don't forget the minor league baseball and UWK sports. My last visit, I made it to Mammoth Cave, the square, saw a free concert, caught a baseball game, drive to Beech Bend (so my 86 year old aunt could see where she used to go dancing in the 40s & 50s), and took in a lot of great food. I especially liked Rafferty's and Bruster's Ice Cream.
@@centralkentuckyliving thank you. I'm so tied up renovating parent's house it unfortunately will have to wait until next spring for my next visit to Kentucky. I am looking forward to spending 4-5 days in the Bowling Green area. My only "official" plan is to do one of the more advanced Mammoth Cave tours and eat lots of great good. I'll definitely hit you up for recommendations. Thank you.
I'm visiting Mammoth cave national park in a few weeks, I'm still deciding where I'll stay, being from Scotland I was going to stay in Glasgow but now I'm torn!
@@roberttewnion1690 Glasgow is a fine little town, not much going on there. There’s not even a Target. So if you’re looking to do some touristy things in an area with better restaurants (really good restaurants actually) Bowling Green would definitely be recommended over Glasgow. @@mitchellgraves2774 5th street Diner is about the only “diner” style place. Other than that, there’s plenty of good breakfast places. Wild Eggs, Corner Cafe, Just Love Coffee, Richpond Market has the best pork tenderloin and biscuits and gravy! Hope that helps!
