I’ve just purchased one and I think TopDon have listened to your comment about the memory only being 16gb because they have upgraded it to 32gb now. 👍🏼 Nice review Mate.
To find something that will work for my honda, acura, 2 vw's, 2 ford trucks AND a bmw for this price with all of these capabilities is just awesome. Im sold! Thanks for the review it was super helpful
Many thanks for sharing your experience and professional knowledge as I am just average driver sick and tired when buying a car privately and needing to check if there is any issues it gives me peace of mind.
One thing I forgot to mention is you can send vehicle reports by email or bluetooth, I use this feature and it is very useful, another nice touch by Topdon. 👇 **Here's the product link** The original price of the AD800BT is AU $549. thanks for a pretty comprehensive rexiew just what I needed on this machine / I have several older units as I used tyo run a diagnostic center . I am at present purchasing a auto com 909 maxipro but I will b e getting a top don for my apprentice
All my scanners I never take the protective screen cover off. I just leave it on. I don’t have an issue with it when it finally does wear off I just get a new one. I don’t like a screen that’s all scratched up I would rather have the protective covering, scratched up and I can replace it, just like my cell phone I left the protective cover on it until it fell off and I pull it off and get another one and put on it. I don’t care I like it that’s my opinion a lot of people don’t like them but I do.
Cheers Pat, It is a very good option for people to consider, it's good to see such value for money in the market now. Gone are the days of spending thousands for a basic enough unit 😁
funny during resets (Oil) ,you found it very good ,,Audi, VW , etc ... Fist car I tried on VW Passat ,, no reset ,, very popular car from largest maker ,,it did suggest manual reset
My Topdon can't find Vin and can't find any faults on an engine that has a definite misfire and oxygen sensor problem, my neighbour has a cheap obd2 and that can find them.
what bi directional commands will this do? providing the car can do them like evap for the vent and purge valve control and TB idle rest or adjusting? maybe trans controls or at least reading the trans for possible faults.i figure it will do abs bleed and other controls if it can reset thanks
I bought the artidiag 900 lite and honestly it is garbage. Its supposed to be the upgrade of this one and it doesn’t have but 8 hot functions😂. I sent it back and ordered me the 800. I needed immo and other stuff and the 900 did not have it.
Great video Gerard, very informative review. Thinking of buying one of these, price is good at the moment. Can you tell me if it will display on live data the DPF pressure sensor readings at all?
For the price, this is the best none Bi-directional scanner on the market with 28 services and lifetime updates. just need to delete the cars you will never need and make room for memory. And they have one guy for support. the main and a major drawback that nobody talks about with this ( which I own) and all sub $ 700-800 scanners is, they don't display mains PIDs like fuel trim and O2 sensor info and few other important things under Diagnostics/ data stream. only in OBD you can monitor those.
Yes I was sent this refrence video to delete the used software to make more space: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l6ZLDcpL3QA.html quite helpful with this channel
Hey, thanks for a great review, seems like a v good tool this. What would you recommend as a "next level" tool from this one which would have the same great price/performance ratio?
Great stuff, may you fix many problems with the Topdon, I use mine pretty much everyday even though we have 20k worth of scan tools at work, the size and ease of use make it my go to for quick checks.
Thank you for you honest review, l would primarily need and use this for VW/AUDI TDI fuel injector coding is this tool capable of that? Have you used this tool for VW AUDI TDI injector coding as this is a very common problem on these model vehicles 1.6 and 2.0 litre
Great review, thanks Gerard. Do you know if this unit works for resetting/recoding Nox sensors on Mercedes diesels after replacing faulty Nox sensors ? I have a 2016 C220d.
I bought one of these about a year ago, and I gotta say that I'm left a bit disappointed. Mainly since it was advertised as a bi-directional scanner I was expecting it to be able to activate certain components throughout different control units. There have been a couple of times where I've been able to perform adaptations, and calibrations on X car via Y control unit, and then when I've returned back to Y control unit the adapt/cali functions are gone from the menu. This has happened on a few cars, which have been the only cars I've been able to perform these kind of adaptations on. When it comes to functionality it's being outperformed by my Chinese knock-off Delphi ds150e that I bought for €40 around 7 years ago. However the AD800BT is a decent piece of kit, and the graphing is lovely. I just wish there had been more memory space in it so that I don't need to delete a bunch of stuff in order to fit the software for the car I'm working on next.
Hello, I can understand your frustration if you bought it thinking it was fully bi directional. I have found many companies have mislabeled entry level scan tools as fully bi directional, I have talked previously about the differences in fully capable vs service reset type functions, overall that can be confusing. To go back to the 800BT though, I am honestly delighted with its abilities for such a low price point, I have recommended it personally to many Technicians in the industry as I am so comfortable using it and it gets taken out daily. I do have the luxury of having 20k worth of scan tools at my workshop so I grab what's best suited to the job I am on, be it an Autel ultra, Snap on, Carman scan or my Topdon. It's a case of no one scan tool can do everything! it's always a combination when working on all different cars. Previously I have loads of Dealer level diagnostics plus Launch X431 pro plus a Carmen scan when working in Ireland to cover as much as I could. It's always a challenge to say the least.
Seems all these Yopdon' and Thinks products are focused on ABS, Battery and Airbag and very little to offer in terms of in depth diagnoses of engine running issues.
What in depth stuff were you after Jonathan? The PIDS are well covered in a host of makes and models. MAP, MAF, O2, FRP, SCV, EGR, VVT, IR, to name just a few to analyse through the tool. So if you are after fuel information, timing information, certain valves, sensors or solenoid info chances are you will have it to assess engine performance and follow along testing to diagnose.
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage from most reviews it appears that these types of scanners only read fault codes but can't perform module actuation or code new components like throttle bodies or injector pumps.
Back to your first comment, the information you can pull on this tool is fantastic, it is certainly more than capable of giving enough information to do in depth diagnostics, I do them on a daily basis at work. I only put the Topdon away when I need a more advanced tool with more capabilities. For instance we have a Autel Ultra and when I need to do scope analysis, use an amp clamp or ignition paddle probe I will grab this tool to continue down my path. For the price point it is a terrific option and I say that with full confidence knowing I have $15,000 plus of scan tools in my workshop and I still grab the Topdon for initial checks, resets, brake work, airbag and test drives monitoring live data. The difference cost wise from one to another is night and day, Topdon also offer more options that when you spend more money it can do more jobs. As always the decision to buy a scan tool depends on what you require it for? if you just had a VW's, Skoda & Audi's I would always recommend VAG COM but it can't do any other brands, a dealer level brand will be the best option on specific vehicles but it is not an easy to navigate tool and you have a laptop setup to go along with. I still grabbed the user friendly scan tools in the past like Launch until I knew In needed a more in depth scan tool to get the required result. As always thanks for watching and I hope you at least go some information that can help you. Best of luck in the search for a scan tool that suits your needs, there is a lot of good options in today's market.
So does this have actually bidirectional control or do I need to pay for it or no I see the art diag Pro an 900 model just came out and they do I'm curious about this
For the TOPDON AD800BT OBD2 Scanner On Amazon they said it does Mileage Calibration: Copy or write the kilometer value Please can you explain that? . .
Hi mate, I've got this scan tool and want to put an epb in service mode, but I can't seem to find the function, even though it apparently has the feature?
Hi, fake topdon exist? I see a lot on Chinese site 300 euro....they are a lot of prices on internet from 300 to 600 euro. How should I know what is fake? Thanks!
I am not 100% on that, different countries and retailers offer different warranty, I have had the same issue with parts out of a different country when bought from a main dealer to save money for a customer. Wherever you decide to buy make sure it is compatible for your region, confirm on the support/warranty they offer and if you do have an issue worse case scenario you can send it back to whatever retailer/location you bought from.
Hello, this one is working on electronic park brake? Like when I wold like to replace the rear brake pads I can wind back the callipers cylinder? Thank you!
Yes it will it do that job on multiple vehicles, reach out directly with TopDon if you would like compatibility details. The information is in the description 👌👍
Great Review Gerard, very thorough explanation. Just wondering, will that scan tool read faults in a Australian toyota 70 series landcruiser with the 4.5 v8 1vd-ftv diesel engine and the 200 series landcruiser with the 4.5 v8 1vd-ftv diesel engine? Thanks in advance :)
Thanks Colm, I appreciate the kind words 🙏🙏 I can't be 100% from memory that I plugged into those exact vehicles over the last 4-5 months but.. It is very likely I have and then to co inside with that, it has never failed to communicate with any Toyota's that I have tried. You can double check with the manufacturer, the link is in the description.
Hi, I noticed when setting the service light everything was in km, then when you manually set it, it did not say if it was in miles or km, can you adjust settings so everything is in miles not km, thanks john.
How do you have like a v26.15 update on SAAB for example and mine dont have shit in terms of update? Cant reach more than 10.30 on big brand..Can't even do a DPF regen on my SAAB
It is capable of doing quantity injector relearns on some vehicles, I can only go off what I have done with the scan tool and to date I have not needed to use this feature yet. With any question like that I highly recommend reaching out to the supplier for some better clarity.
There is an option for it but honestly I am not sure as I have never used that feature, I would reach out to the supplier with the question if I was you to try and get clarity on it.
Over the 3 months 9 times out of ten it was able to read the codes... what about the 1 out of ten that it wasnt able to do? What reader(s) did you use? What wasnt it able to do?
Currently in the workshop is Snap on Modis Thinktool Master Autel Ultra Carman scan No one scan tool can do it all, if you operate in a position where you work on different makes and models of vehicles you will at some stage need more than one option.
Hello again, I used it on a 2014 clio today, I had a diagnostic job and it worked perfectly on, full system scan and communication to all modules was done and codes/faults were found. I hope this helps 👌👍
When I checked the DPF differential pressure for instance, it showed me 6 mb on idle, however does it show what is the standards what is considered good and what is bad ?
0-250 is normal range Go to settings Click clear data Click - clear diagnostic software Click on the models you want to delete Right hand side - click delete When done Return to settings Click on file manager Scroll to bottom This will show how much data is being used and how much is available Make sure you toggle off - silent upgrade This will prevent everything being reloaded again From the Home Screen when you click app update Only choose what you want to update and leave the rest.
Also If you take your finger either on the left or right hand side of the screen and pull it towards the center It will take you back to the previous page. Any other questions feel free to ask It really is a good kit But they don’t give proper instructions on how to use and navigate. Also while it is not bi directional you can figure out a lot by using the live data Live data will show you on the right hand side the range of what you are looking at If it’s blue it’s in range If it’s red it’s out of range If you are not sure about the range You can write down what you see or save it And then look on line. I think for the money this kit works well Also by deleting unused or unwanted apps it not only frees up space It makes the operations quicker. Also it helps to be connected to Wi-Fi No Wi-Fi ? Use your phone as a hot spot That is all Carry on
I bought one from eBay for 270 pounds, I am really disappointed because it will not communicate with my 2012 Skoda Octavia at all and won't do the automatic vin code and also manual vin code no matter how many times I try it, it will just not load so cannot diagnose anything.
Very surprised that it does not work on a Skoda, I have not had any vag vehicles that it failed to communicate with. Yes sometimes the auto search does not work but that happens on very expensive scan tools as well like Autel, launch and Snap on but when you select the correct models manually I have always found what I needed with, VW Audi or Skoda range. Reach out to the supplier you bought from and check for any updates available.
Yes, I use it all the time through bluetooth when doing test drives away from the workshop, works really well. you do have the option to hotspot from your phone if you wanted to use wifi out and about.
@@All4thekingdom I used it to pull codes on 2005 Buick lacrosse 3.8 and it did an awesome job even telling me wich wheel sensor was bad and the seat that had the restraint issues. I was really impressed.
@@randy2835 I ended up purchasing the XTool D8. So far, it's okay, not really done anything much with it yet to offer more info.. It did gather my readings pretty fast and vin number and everything, but been really busy to play with it yet, idk!
as everything has it's limits, you could delete used model to make more space, i got like 5g memory left after deleting some models, quite simple, you could refer to this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l6ZLDcpL3QA.html😀
Also if English is your language delete the language app because it defaults to English This alone save quite a bit of storage I deleted all the Chinese cars and some other models I will Never see here in the U.S. I have 5 gigs of memory free doing this Works well And while it doesn’t have bi directional capabilities You can see live data which helps a lot Great Kit for the price Also one more thing People complain about not being able to be hooked up To the internet In those cases simply use your cell phone as a hot spot for Wi-Fi
@@anguslean4058 Do you know where it can display the standard range for any metric, for instance I had done data stream on the dpf differential pressure, but I don’t know whether the value o get is good or bad? Thanks
@@anesdj4282 when you are reading live data It will show you the range on the right hand side If it is in normal range the color will be blue If it is out of range the color will be red.
