Yes. Correct. Lack of promotion. A huge company like WBs didn't do anything. Lots of Frankie's & the groups singles weren't given anything. Don't know why ?

These guys are rarely mentioned in the whole Jersey Boys legacy but made some great music - keeping the Four Seasons relevant after the original "Seasons" left.
@ianbates1312

I couldn’t agree with you more,,,, I was so disappointed with the Jersey Boys “story” not including music from the Four Seasons later era I turned down a chance to see the Jersey Boys,, and to be honest I wasn’t bothered either. It was as though the J B “story” dismissed that part of the Four Seasons because Frankie Valli wasn’t present with them 🤬🤬
@realmusicnj

@ianbates1312 Jersey Boys is fine if you take it for what it is - a fictionalized account of the band's early days Broadwayed up for audience appeal. I'm guessing a true biography of the band is better left to the written word to accurately tell the story of the band.

My favorite lineup of the legendary band!! Thanks to Top Of The Pops for providing so many videos of groups that might not be able to be seen unless you happened to catch a concert. I was young and didn't get to see the mid 70's lineup, only in these vids or promos, all of which are priceless to me. "Helicon" was a superb album and only wished that Gerry, Don, Lee and John were able to continue on through the rest of 70's.

Interesting to see no appearance by Frankie in this video. He was experiencing major problems at the time with his hearing, which partly explained Gerry Polci taking over many of the lead vocals. Happy to hear that Frankie got much of his hearing back again after surgery.
@fullervisiondotnet
@fullervisiondotnet 7 месяцев назад
@@johnwoods1922 The other reason, at least if you believe Don Ciccone, was that Frankie had his own solo deal with another label (which is a weird story) and Warner Bros decided they wanted a new lead singer after they'd heard a demo with Don on lead of "Who Loves You" (Frankie vetoed that one). They settled on Gerry... who ironically would marry Frankie's daughter a decade or so later. (And people think Jersey Boys is a compelling story! They left out all the good stuff.) Gaudio was fine with it, as it meant two acts for twice the cash flow.
@anthonycolatrella2438
@anthonycolatrella2438 3 месяца назад
@@fullervisiondotnet --at that time Frankie ALREADY had his own separate record contract with PRIVATE STOCK, the label that released Frankie's "My Eyes Adored You', but that label only wanted Frankie as a solo artist, so Bob Gaudio had to shop around for ANOTHER label to sign the entire group- Frankie and the 4Seasons---Warner Bros/Curb was interested but wanted to hear the new material--at the time Frankie was in the UK promoting his song so Gaudio had Ciccone sing lead on the demo for 'Who Loves You' and obviously the execs loved it and signed the group--I have heard Ciccone's version of the story- and I have discussed it with Lee Shapiro also a 4Season at the time and his is a little different--Mike Curb only wanted Valli on lead and obviously so did Valli!! --and, of course, that is what happened. When you compare the two the song is more dynamic with Frankie's lead--- so during the next 3 years or so there were 2 separate recording contracts -one for Frankie's solo records and one for the group -Frankie Valli AND the 4Seasons1

As a 15 year old in 1977 I was tuned in mostly to punk...but this song really spoke to me and it takes me right back to that year. Makes me well up. Beautiful - maybe it's the way the chords resolve into that classic Four Seasons chorus, maybe it's that punchy rhythm they so often had, maybe it's Gerry's voice? Wonderful.

The Four Seasons of the mid-1970's was meant to allow other band members to share the lead vocals, partially due to Frankie's parallel solo run on Private Stock (and later Universal) Records, and partially due to Frankie's issue with deafness caused by otosclerosis (corrected by surgery in 1979-1980).

I think you are missing the point,,,, Gerri Polci and Franki Valli’s voice are poles apart. I have tried,, believe me,, to “hear” Valli’s voice in my mind on Helicon and to me it doesn’t work. Conversely there are songs from earlier albums that were Valli’s to sing,, why?,, because of the type of song that they were. I rest my case your honour 😊😊
@anthonycolatrella2438
@anthonycolatrella2438 3 месяца назад
@@ianbates1312 Sorry I missed your point, now that you have clarified it , yes I can see it , obviously particular songs favor certain singers -no doubt -Bob Gaudio in the beginning wrote songs to favor Frankie"s style, but by the time of 'Helicon" he was writing specifically NOT for Frankie but for Polci and Ciccone who were planned to be the leads on the separate 4 seasons group without Frankie Valli--so they do seem better suited to as you say Polci, but i have no trouble imagining Frankie singing them--Gaudio and Shapiro could easily make slight arrangement changes and the songs would still sound as good---I thought your statement -- Polci could sing rings around Valli ---is so far over the top -Polci's range is quite limited; Valli could sing anything and well. Lee Shapiro has taken part in a RU-vid program I participate in -4SEASONS ON SATURDAY-Lee was a 4Season with Polci ; he did the horn and string arrangements on 'Helicon'; he continually attests to the talent of Valli's voice; he actually thinks Gaudio made a mistake in the musical direction he took with "Helicon"
@ianbates1312
@ianbates1312 3 месяца назад
By the time of the 70’s Frankie Valli’s wanted to do his own thing which changed the whole direction of the Four Seasons. When I played Helicon (in the late seventies when it came out) I was surprised in the direction that the Four Seasons had gone. It took a few plays to get used to it AND THEN,,,, WOW!!!! never stopped playing it. I don’t think it ever came out on CD,,,, am I wrong on that count?? I do have a friend who knocked a “CD” up for me,,,, THANKS FRIEND!!!!

Of all the 70s Four Seasons hits, this one probably comes closest to capturing the classic 60s era Seasons sound. The chord progression (compare to "Ronnie," "Save It for Me"), even Polci's melody sounds like it has a range Frankie would've sung back when it was him, Gaudio, DeVito and Massi.
