Its truly a shame more people dont know about her. Her voice is hauntingly angelic. Im 45 and have been listening since I was a teen.

The 90's were really a golden era for music. All types, all genres of music.

The pedal drop at 2:46 .... such a cool transition. Saw her do this live and flip back and forth between piano and harpsichord and at one point played both at the same time. So incredibly talented.

theres a silly notion that tori only appeals to women, Im a guy whos always found her music amazing, so fill with life and deepness. Several of her albums are amongst the best, most creative and best lyrics of all time. Shes an open wound at times, but her music is transformative and for sensitive people, both women and men, very healing, we'll recognise a bit of ourselves in her stories, because she not only makes songs, but short stories, mini movies that speak to all of us.

I remember reading an interview where she says she wrote this song as a reaction to her break-up with Trent Reznor. She basically said(& is saying, through this song) that she thought it was more with him, but in the end, it was like getting over a light cold. Like catching feelings, or a 'lite sneeze'. Knowing that totally changed this entire song, & all the lyrics that aren't quite clear suddenly become obvious, like "made my own pretty hate machine", which was the name of Trent & Nine Inch Nails brilliant debut album end of the 80's. They wouldve been an interesting pairing..both incredibly driven musical geniuses.

Nothing comes close to it, to me, all these years later, at age 50. This is one or her best songs,and it only grows more relevant, over time. What it has meant to me, and to m my late mother, I cannot even begin to explain in words. Tori transcends time and space. She is a rare treasure or American music history.

The depths of these abstract lyrics continues to haunt my thoughts even decades after hearing this song for the first time. It's not just music, it's human expression in it's messiest rawness. It's one of the most tragically beautiful songs ever made. At least in my humble opinion.

Haven't listened to this song in easily a decade. Decided to catch up with her. I'm stunned by how powerful this song still is. I love the lush, full feel of it. It's Tori exploring new sounds and instruments...in full control of it all. It also dredges up some ugly early adult memory which came for me viscerally just now. It's not the worst thing that has happened but something I wish hadn't happened. How I let someone manipulate me into something very ugly. I loathe "her" for how she made me feel. "...make my own Pretty Hate Machine" indeed. Why am I writing this...? Tori can still get through all the defenses I suppose even after 30 years...

Tori's music convinced me that I don't need psychedelics to trip. Her sound is ethereal.

Since the beginning of her career Tori has owned that space of beauty and artistry on the verge of something chaotic and ethereal and altogether mystical. A truly unique artist that is deserving of far more attention than she has received.

Honestly, ppl, this magnificent song about crashing down to earth from a world of misperceptions saved my life and I can't thank Tori enough! I'd just been raped by a so-called "authority figure" within the LGBTQIA+ community two months earlier, and I died within myself. This song was the consoling voice I never knew I'd get to drag me back from the edge and I found my fire for the first time. I adore T for that album, which I still hold dear to my heart xx

Things I never noticed about this video before... How strong the Trent vibes are. Not just the "Pretty Hate Machine" reference, either. And also... That shot of the New York skyline with the old World Trade Center, and a second later, the lyric "buildings...tumbling..." Cold chills.

A timeless masterpiece. Her best song. First watched it in January 96 via MTV 'First Look' and kept in 'the best' rotation for a year, then forgot... Now in 2019 rediscovered this pearl and yes, it is still the same stunning effect as originally. 25 years of pure perfection with imperfect juxtapositions of the vocal ellipses and mid-paced tempo / rhythm. A part of history.

We have to thank Tori who had to push back against the suits that they thought they knew what she should create better than herself. I have recently introduced people in their early 20’s who do not know of her. PJ Harvey, Portishead, Bjork, Ani Difranco. Just a few artist that brought so much dynamics to the 90’s. Many are still so enjoyable for it was timeless when created to still be fresh now

Ahh memories, when I discovered what real music was.

I found tori at age 16. She comes to me during my darkest times, the times at the edge of the cliff, where she somehow lets me fly. Here i am again, at 44 years old, same wounds, same sense of weightlessness. Long live Tori Amos

I first heard her when MTV aired a special about the creation of Boys for Pele and they showed scenes of her singing this song in the old church where she recorded the album and my entire soul melted. Her vocals were like nothing I'd ever heard. Hell I still haven't heard anyone like her.

I saw her do this live one time and I was totally blown away. The skill, creativity, honesty, integrity was just amazing. You could tell she loved what she was doing. I wish more artists were like that today.

Word, for word I was there, I just travelled back in time. I still have goose bumps but now its time to come home.

This song was my first introduction to Tori, and I've been a lifelong fan ever since.

This album is better than almost every other "Best Album" on the 90's.

Tori is recklessly beautiful in this video. It's too bad Reznor and her never actually did an album together, they clearly influenced each other. It's strange I feel there is this weird trio of Amos, Reznor and Neil Gaiman that should have come together that never happened in this universe..

I never really knew what Tori Amos was singing about half the time but you just get caught up in the music and the imagery as well. Haven't heard this one in ages...

They're like watch paintings moving. ...the lyrics just so deep and they communicate something that can only be felt and not described at that level cause I imagine she's been through more pain than I could imagine...people that can turn so much pain into something beautiful like that will always make me feel like there's something really good about humanity. There is a strength in our heart not measurable and when it's mended with art it changes us and heals us through anything. It truly is a magic that is real...

I saw her back in the day at Massey Hall in Toronto Still the best concert I've ever seen at that venue. The double piano playing and the acoustics were amazing.

Although I knew and 'liked' Tori from the beginning, this is the song that made me fall in love with her! I still remember listening to it and watching the video on MTV..That was it. This is still one of the amazing songs to ice skate to. I am retired with grandkids now. I am giving them a chance to hear the music which influenced me.

I was a young, full of hate and anger; Metallica, Manson, Zombie listening, horror movie and Faces of Death watching, weed smoking, boozing, ultra aggressive male in my early 20's... Yet, this here...and her two prior albums, simply blew me away. I could feel all her hurt and pain and I formed a bond with her as I felt I was going through the same...or at least having the same emotions. And damn, I thought she was a physical thing of beauty as well...so small, red, amazingly emotional with her eyes and expressions...and that damn piano. All of it/her...stunning.

The first time I heard this song was when I rented her CD album at the local library (Yes! That long ago) I was smitten with her. This song blew my mind. It made me feel some type of way and even now, I still feel it in my heart. Truly a masterpiece. She should have a grammy! She has so much more talent in one finger than most of these current artist.
