Fully deserved for being toxic and lying. The misdirection and blame shifting from this government as 14 years of their administration has nothing to do with how people feel is ridiculous and jaw dropping.

It will take much longer than five years for the British people to forget what the Tory Party has done to them over the last 14 years. Kellner is removed from the hardships that most of us face. In 2019, the Tories received 13.97 million votes from an electorate of around 46 million people. That means that seven out of every ten people registered to vote didn't vote for the Tory Party, or only three out of ten-fewer than 30%-did vote Tory. I don't remember anyone raising the issue back then.

Andrew Neil really brought this station down a level, he's an awful toad of a man.

I dont think the Tactical Voting of Labour supporters for Liberals in the South is being taken into account by Mr Kellner.

These people ignore tactical voting - a fair number of people who want Labour in power will be voting Lib Dem as they will be the only realistic competition against the Tories is some areas

Overall polls have narrowed, but there has been plenty of evidence in various MRPs that this is because people are preparing to vote tactically... so Labour voters more willing to vote Lib Dem in particular if it means ensuring no Conservative winner in their constituency.

Vote share doesn’t matter, only seats won matters.

Why do you guys never talk about tactical voting? The loss of labour votes is in areas where the Lib Dem’s are the more viable candidates so it’s the anti Tory alliance making it even worse for the cons, not stepping off the gas

It really feels like when the tories benefit from the quirks of the first past the post system it’s never mentioned. Labour seems like they’re going to benefit and all the commentators are tying themselves in knots almost hinting for proportional representation. Be careful what you wish for.

It's just a sign of tactical voting on the centre left. The Labour vote has drifted a bit towards the Lib Dems and Greens - a sort of DIY proportional representation.

I assessed palliative care cases, who knew they were going to die alone, whilst the Tories held parties, and when caught out, proceeded to lie through their teeth about it. Point is it has reached the stage where you can't support the Tories and continue to pretend that you're a good person.

This is a strange conversation. 4 in ten reject the two parties. Labor is at 40% (per their numbers) by itself. It’s the Tories who have fallen so far. If labor and tories were equal, then they’d have 8 in 10 voters supporting the two main parties. So it’s strange to say that people aren’t enthusiastic about labor and group them together with the tories as if the public’s apathy is equally split between the two.

This country has been going backwards throughout my 64 yrs due to very poor government by both the Tories & Labour - it will continue for the next 5 yrs....and we will be in more debt. We are about to see parish councillors run the country .....what disaster looms?

i would note with the 40% shunning the two main parties... that number would be higher without FPTP, as yougov has shown around 20% of voters voting tactically this election - under a more proportional system the greens could be getting around double what they are on now nationally.

The narrative Labour need to focus on is very clear. They just need to say "It took the Tories 14 years to do all this damage, it'll take a long time to fix it"

Labour haven't nearly bankrupted the country for quite a while now, its about time we gave them another chance. Just make sure you set up a fixed rate mortgage very quickly.

Liebour should take note of what is happening to the Conservative Party, as it very well might be their turn for the same treatment next time around. Ignore the people at your peril! We need a strong opposition to keep Liebour half honest, and the only party capable of doing that is Reform. Vote Reform👍

Those people who put Sunak into his safe seat which has had no cultural, geographic or professional link to and then imposed him as leader are to blame. Sunak has never won a political fight or real vote. They are getting their just rewards now for ignoring their voters and backstabbing their way to the top.

Here we go again. May I remind you that the numbers you are referring to show Labour getting 40 percent of the votes and the Tories getting 20 percent. Not much to argue about, I would say.

Rather than have forty percent of voters votes resulting in zero representation, a decent form of PR would allow the vast majority of electors votes to count for something.

The Tories wil be back quicker than one can say "Lets have a Downing Street party during COVID". Trust me.

Not sure why people think it matters that, for example, Labour have dropped below 40% and fhe Tories have risen above 20%. This isn't a national election. It doesn't matter what the overal national vote share is, the only thing that matters is the vote share in the individual seats. As an example, how does the Labour vote dropping by 2% affect the outcome tomorrow in Tower Hamlets, or Sunderland Central, or Wigan? It isn't relevant, which is why we've shifted to MRP modelling, which is slightly better but still takes more or less no notice of any local factors. As an example, which MRP poll would have predicted Martin Bell's 1997 win in Tatton? None. So excuse me for taking this with a huge pinch of salt. The UK isn't even a single country, and within the four countries that comprise it there's very little cultural similarity between a stockbroker from Surbiton and a taxi driver in South Shields, or a lawyer in Edinburgh and a bricklayer in Glasgow.

When will Andrew Niel stop using the expression "super majority " ? As a die hard tory he will spin for them to the bitter end l suppose. When the next election comes it will be totally different. Votes at 16 easier for younger people to vote. No voter suppression tactics etc

Way oversimplified commentary. Tactical voting is going to be massive this election with Labour voters lending their votes to Lib Dems to help oust the Tories and vice versa. Whether the Greens will also do the same remains to be seen but there are many marginals where the Labour/Tory vote is very close and the Green vote could save the Tories.
