Home depot has this box which is $167.00 now. I was considering this exact same idea and glad to see it worked out for you. I am sure it will be great for me as well.
I just got my Tormek T8 and was trying to find a tool cabinet low enough that would work for my application. As you mentioned I had it on my work bench 36" high but I was standing on 5" platform to get the right leverage on the unit, I'm only 5'8. Eventually I found a old school vintage USA made 4 drawer tool cabinet with casters it's a heavy unit, but I'm going to replace it with 2" casters, it will sit at 30" high when I'm done. Basically every tool cabinet/rolling chest etc...is at around 34"-36" high(the low ones at least with casters) so finding a lower height unit can be a PIA, especially one with wheels. Medical side bed cabinets are low enough but they cost $$$. I looked at the Husky unit like yours along with a Stanley, and Craftsman unit if you strip the paint off them, you'd swear they came out of the same factory..... I know Craftsman and Stanley made in the USA....with global components...lol Awesome video and great detail, it helped me during my search.
I'm using the Harbor Freight 286# capacity welding cabinet for my Tormek. It's about $200. It has drawers, and a small footprint. Seems to work fine. I couldn't quite justify the Tormek cabinet, either.
Gary I want to thank you for this video! I was in the same exact situation as you; not wanting to pay $800 for the Tormek one and not in the mood to build yet another wooden cabinet. I saw you're video and one Lowe's, two HD's and a rented truck later it's in my house! I looked at cheaper ones but they we're too flimsy; the one you chose is the best. I did find an end cabinet at Harbor Freight that has the same dimensions as the Tormek mat but the drawers are too small for the inserts.
Great video - thank you for the tip! Do you have any ideas for storage of extra grinding wheels/stones? The Tormek stands has hooks on the side, and I’ve not come up with a good way to store mine other than lying flat in boxes, which isn’t great for drying... Thank you!
Thank you! I might suggest some kind of a pegboard on the side of the cabinet. For drying I'd suggest the plastic peg board squares at Home Depot so the moisture won't be an issue.
Thanks for the update! Bummer they sold out and discontinued it. Perhaps try Lowes or Harbor Freight for something close to it, and adapt to that. Thanks! 👍
