They rebuilt after the last horrific tornado and no one though to build an underground shelter in those schools.. Those children deaths could have been avoided had they just spent a bit more to keep them safe.. I hope to god they did it this time around

Fortunately after the May 20, 2013 tornado; the city council of Moore voted unanimously in favor of building codes that require all new buildings to have storm shelters. In addition; every school in Moore has a storm shelter. Never again!

Thank you for this. Unbelievable. I remember watching this unfold sitting at work with my fellow firefighters. For some reason they carried it on Fox News I believe it was, even though we were in NY. It was the first time I really saw a helicopter used to follow a tornado. We were just sitting there completely silent. One feed they patched in showed the tornado hitting a school or daycare in real time. We just sat there and my Lt looked over and said "Well boys, we just watched a bunch of children die on live TV." It was a rough moment, nobody said a word for what felt like an eternity. This was also about a month after the marathon bombing too, so things were not great to begin with. The idea that this was happening and we couldn't help was gut-wrenching. One of the younger guys on my shift actually started planning getting a bunch of guys and equipment together to drive down there ourselves. It was a 23 hour drive but we couldn't stand to sit there and not help. Unfortunately we couldn't put it together since it would leave our town without most of it's best trained firefighters and short shifts/brownouts. I'll never forget that day and feeling so helpless. It's tough watching when it's your job and more importantly your passion to help in just these kind of situations. God bless everyone effected that day.
