It's cute how other places in the U.S. react to tornadoes compared to those that live in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas etc. I imagine it's like how people in those states react to major snow.
By the time it reached Norwood/Edison Park just east of Northwest Highway it was retracting as my neighbor and I watched it one or two blocks north of our house. Wow what a day! Great footage

@@VideoManDan Also, this is a leading edge upper edge wind disturbance. Not a tornado. I'm not sure where these two got their meteorology degree, but in my opinion, they need a refresher course.
@@GrammerAngelthis was not the leading edge. However the rotation existed but seeing scud clouds get sucked into the updraft base isn’t a tornado. I’m not saying there may have been areas with damage but tornado genesis did not materialize. Rotation was disorganized after the initial few minutes in my opinion then it started to crank.

According to the NWS, it was reported as a tornado. A tornado can touchdown without the tell-tale pipe look. It can look like a funnel cloud but what you are used to is debris spin-up, etc. and that can happen without any visible tornado. This one over Rosemont looks though to be an EF-0 quick one. There were apparently a lot of them in the Chicago area today.
@@WilliamTeach17 Yes. That tornado did touch down, it was caught on video. You are only seeing the cloud rotation, not the full tornado which wasn't visible except at the ground. A rather common occurrence actually in early tornado formation.

Nashville, Tennessee was hit by a tornado in 1997, as the now Nissan Stadium was being built. Took out WTVF Channel 5's signal tower was knocked off the air. Grew to an F3 rating then as it approached The Hermitage area. So big cities are not immuned to the tornadic weather
I think that news anchor that was off camera almost came when he thought he saw a tornado. A tornado would be devastating in that high a density of a population

This was reported by Des Plaines and Rosemont as a brief touchdown EF-0 tornado to the NWS. Yes, this isn't a massive house debris storm, but it is a tornado. That same storm produced a tornado in Campton Hills and Elgin that did considerable damage

@@Alex-js5lg This particular outbreak had 13 confirmed tornado touchdowns in the Chicago Area, including this one. A debris tracker with NWS ground survey confirmed them.
If u choose to live where tornados are an every year thing, why? Why take the chance? To have ur whole life and belongings there one minute and then completely gone 45sec later and all ur stuff sprinkled around the next mile or two. Why? Why live anywhere near there? Make it a law to build homes to withstand F8 F9 tornadoes then for sure ull be fine if an F5 rolls thru the neighborhood.

No, there was a funnel cloud, but the tornado itself never materialized. I live in Homer Glen (southwest suburbs of Chicago), and near Naperville, there was a tornado warning. Of course, everything pretty much traveled to the north of where I live, & eventually ended up in Chicago.
@@ozone8897 The tornado couldn’t fully form as it started over buildings. If it started over an open field; then it would have been able to fully form.
Yes, climate change is happening. But it’s not uncommon to have tornados in the Chicago area. And sometimes really bad ones. Three really bad ones happened on the same day in April 1967.
@@ToddBannorPlainfield was an EF5 in August 1990. I believe it’s one of the few - if only EF5’s that ever happened in August. And of course the Rogers Park tornado only happened in 2020.
Hey Chicago! That's a funnel cloud, NOT A TORNADO, unless it touches the ground. Must be an amateur Meteorologist as a professional wouldn't claim it until touchdown!! You jumped the gun on this video!!
A tornado is by definition a rotating column of air that stretches from the clouds to the ground. The funnel doesn't have to touch the ground in order for it to be a confirmed tornado. If you see anything spinning on the ground underneath rotation it's a tornado
If you can see a dust cloud underneath the funnel, it's a tornado. The circulation may not extend all the way to the ground because of drier air aloft.
