The sound of wind chimes can both be so beautiful and so haunting at the same time

At about 8:40, when the rain dies down, you can hear the low roar of it coming. Being from tornado alley, I sure recognize that ominous sound! You were lucky!!!

I heard the sound as early as 8:25 , not very loud then, but definitely there. There's no mistaking that sound. You dodged a bullet. (Jan Griffiths).

@douglasgriffiths3534 I heard it around the 8:25 mark too. I've only been through a couple of tornadoes in my life(mostly when I was a little girl), but that sound is etched into my memory forever. Even if I'm just watching a video like this, that sound brings back memories. I don't know if I could even properly describe the sound of an approaching tornado, but when you hear it, you recognize it. The noise is unmistakable and unforgettable.

My thoughts... I live in Missouri, so we don't get tornadoes a lot, but we are still considered tornado alley. I experienced tornadoes as a kid, but I haven't seen one. I started studying the weather, and as the video played, right before the popular 8:00 mark, I saw it was growing darker. This made me extremely nervous because when I was a child, I was playing outside with my friends as the tornado sirens went off and I nor everyone's parents thought anything about it. It started to get darker for some reason, and then first, my mom screamed for me to come inside as we saw a tornado pass our house. Most. Terrifying. Moment. Ever.
@Trahzy
@Trahzy Год назад
Yep, common thing for people to think becasue they've never seen one, they've never been close to one. When in fact more people have been closer than they think, whether it was wrapped in rain, very fast moving or small and brief, at night, so on. Tornadors come in all shapes and sizes and visibilities.
@lotusbandicoot
@lotusbandicoot Год назад
@@Trahzy Very true. I know for a fact I've been close to at least two of them... one passed about a mile in front of my mom's house in the country in rural Indiana on 8-15-16 (we didn't realize how close it was, and then I was standing on the porch watching the black clouds rotating above and not very far away, while the main funnel was probably obscured by rain). 9 days later, I was half a mile from the EF3 that destroyed a big area in Kokomo, IN on 8-24-16 (though I didn't see it because I'd been in shelter a good, long while before it hit). In 2019, an active funnel that wouldn't touch the ground for several miles after it was here may have passed right over where I live now, but I don't know for sure. Some pictures suggest it really might have been straight above my apartment complex, but I still don't know for sure and that's pretty creepy, honestly. I went outside not long after the sirens started but all the major darkness was east of us, so I think they may not have gone off until a while after the funnel had already gone by.
@CH3CH2OCH2CH3net
@CH3CH2OCH2CH3net 2 года назад
I'm going to take an educated guess and say you were in the outer circulation of that tornado. That's the part of the tornado which is away from the condensation funnel, but there can still be a lot of wind and a lot of damage.

Well I put my headphones on wanting to hear it and I did but the hail then rain hitting on awning liken to have deafened me but I was able and starting around 8.40. Everytime I hear windchimes in a storm I m reminded of Aunt Megs in Wakita OK. My daughter was around 8 when Twister came out. We watched it who knows how many times We both became obsessed with tornadoes but she became disinterested in high school and remains so grown and gone. My passion for them has only gained and I even took the internet 101 and Skip Talbots undergrad course both in Thunderstorms , Single, Multi , and Super cell varieties then tornado formation and genesis. In my area of NC we get multicellular thunderstorms during summer months but ya have to start somewhere. I later learn NC gets 90 % of the tornadoes that occasionally touch down in our state from QLCS squall line type storms pushed by a cold front but I haven't seen the real deal. I guess I should be thankful but I would like to see one just not from my windows or door. Glad you only heard this tornado and not witnessed it first hand from your hall. Thanks for sharing.
