NOTE: The video is the artist's view of how destructive tornados might be based on the Enhanced Fujita Scale system.
Welcome to our RU-vid video, where we dive into the fascinating world of tornadoes and explore the different strength levels defined by the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Join us as we journey through the various levels of tornado strength, from the milder end to the most devastating twisters.
Below we have listed sample items that are worth having in your tornado survival kit. (As Amazon Associates we earn from qualifying purchases. We earn a commission from every purchase made through our links.)

2:39 EF4 Tornado
3:24 EF5 Tornado
EF0 - The Marginal Twister:
EF0 tornadoes are characterized by wind speeds ranging from 65 to 85 mph (105 to 137 km/h). Although considered relatively weak, these tornadoes can still cause damage, such as peeling off roof shingles, breaking branches, and overturning lightweight outdoor objects. While not posing a significant threat to well-built structures, precautions should still be taken during an EF0 event.
EF1 - The Moderate Gust:
EF1 tornadoes exhibit wind speeds between 86 and 110 mph (138 to 177 km/h). At this level, we begin to witness more substantial damage. These tornadoes can remove entire sections of roofing, collapse chimneys, and uproot large trees. Well-constructed homes and buildings may experience structural damage, emphasizing the need for preparedness and sheltering during an EF1 event.
EF2 - The Significant Cyclone:
EF2 tornadoes demonstrate increased intensity with wind speeds ranging from 111 to 135 mph (178 to 217 km/h). Structures within the path of an EF2 tornado face significant risks. Roofs can be completely torn off, exterior walls can collapse, and mobile homes are at a high risk of destruction. Large objects become dangerous projectiles, and the threat to life and property escalates. It is crucial to seek immediate shelter and follow emergency protocols in the face of an EF2 event.
EF3 - The Severe Whirlwind:
Tornadoes classified as EF3 display a considerable increase in strength, with wind speeds ranging from 136 to 165 mph (219 to 265 km/h). These storms can cause severe damage, including the complete destruction of well-built homes and the collapse of commercial structures. Reinforced buildings may sustain significant damage, and the uprooting of trees becomes widespread. EF3 tornadoes pose a significant risk to life and require urgent action and adherence to safety measures.
EF4 - The Devastating Monster:
EF4 tornadoes represent a significant escalation in intensity, with wind speeds between 166 and 200 mph (267 to 322 km/h). These twisters unleash extreme devastation. Well-built homes are leveled, leaving only debris behind. Reinforced structures can suffer extensive damage, and even underground shelters may not be entirely safe. Large objects, including cars, are lifted and thrown significant distances. The potential for loss of life and catastrophic destruction is extreme during an EF4 event, demanding immediate action and adherence to evacuation orders.
EF5 - The Unleashed Fury:
At the highest level of the Enhanced Fujita Scale, we encounter the most powerful and destructive tornadoes. EF5 tornadoes exhibit wind speeds exceeding 200 mph (322 km/h). These monstrous storms can obliterate entire neighborhoods, reduce even well-constructed buildings to rubble, and cause unimaginable devastation over a wide area. The impact on human life is severe, and survival becomes increasingly challenging. In the face of an EF5 tornado, evacuation and finding shelter in reinforced underground structures or storm shelters is absolutely critical.

Honestly it happens. You can find quite a few videos of it being sunny around the tornado and the supercell being just off to the side. Usually though, it's hot and sunny before the storm hits, that causes more instability in the atmosphere, increasing tornado risk and strength.

Being born and raised in Oklahoma I have always just stood on the balcony or front porch watching the tornadoes until they are right on top of us. I’ve been in the center of probably 20 or more in my life and it’s honestly really fun. EF 3 and below you really don’t even have to go inside, just be somewhere that a strong wall or something is going to absorb a branch impact. EF4 and 5 you need to go to a storm cellar or a room at the center of the house as low as possible. Also for EF4 and 5 you’d better be prepared for no power, be stocked on groceries(no refrigerated items), have a full tank in case the gas stations go down. Usually never gets that bad but if it does you’ll be thankful you did

Wow! Great illustration of how powerful these forces of nature can be, even at the lowest end of the EF scale these swirling winds of evil can still pose a potent threat. I’m a native Californian and for as long as I can remember, going back to kindergarten and elementary school, part of our curriculum was earthquake education, preparation and reaction. I’m curious and if anyone who reads this who grew up in a part of the country that is considered prone to tornadoes, did you have tornado drills in school? And did they also educate you about them (tornadoes), like what the EF ratings , etc.

One of the things that just mde me shake my head when we studied it in uni was that we alredy have options for building extrenely tornado resistant buildings, and have for a long time, yet we keep rebuilding structures proven to have extremely poor resistance and to be unsafe. Get this, these alternatives are even cheaper! This insane focus on a certain aesthetic over safety and efficiency needs to stop. If you were in an earthquake prone area you'd probably agree a more earthquake resistant building is prudent if your previous house collapsed. Why not with twisters/tornadoes?

Impossible for an EF4 to do that. It would automatically upgrade the tornado. The only one I've ever seen on video was Elie which was a firm EF5 DI and they upgraded it just based on that video. I've seen a bunch shred the house apart in one go though if that is what you mean?

The enhanced fujita scale is a measurement of the damage done by a tornado. If it slabs a well built house, then it's an ef5. So unless it's a poorly built house, lifting an entire house would be reducing it to slab, and would automatically make it an ef5
@CatladyKiefFingers_deLarios
@CatladyKiefFingers_deLarios 4 месяца назад
@@Mr___fUNLESS the house wasn't properly secured to the slab. There are certain ways a house can be built that they will allow it to be reduced to the slab and still keep it an ef4, it's just the well built brick houses affixed to the foundation that automatically would trigger an upgrade

Who remembers that movie Twister? Someone asked what would an F5 tornado be like, and they replied "...the finger of God..." 😢

I remember that film. It was Melissa who asked Preacher "Is there an F5, What would that be like?" It was Preacher who replied "the finger of God".

Imagine having to replace the livestock in that barn 5 or 6 times from tornados that take the same exact path

All the damage caused by tornadoes is selectively chosen by the video editor, it has no real physics. But it serves to get an idea of the destructive power that these events have.

I know what tornadoes can do having had several a few years go that hit in Massachusetts. I woke at 6 a.m., to the sound of thunder.I wasn't thinking tornado, so I turned on the t.v., and heard tornado warning. I was What? I went back into my living room, ad listed again, hoping i was wrong. I wasn't, so I son, and he grabbed our cat, and came running down the stairs not believing me! When he saw what I did,he was shocked! We'd had an EF3 tornado that started way out, and just kept on going. it went through several towns, before hitting Webster. Webster had 3 buildings that were going to come down, and all three of those were destroyed by the tornado.

All these tornadoes appeared to be spinning clockwise, which is rare in the northern hemisphere.

Rare, but not impossible... its just a mindblowing coincidence that all these anticyclonic freaks keep hitting the same property!

It would have been better if there was wind and debris noise instead of music. My experience with an F4 was I heard that roar first. Then the roar with debris smashing into everything.
