Suzuki engine, fitted to Rover mowers in Australia also. You need these to mow steep inclines where a four stroke may not properly lubricate as the oil inside the crankcase moves away from the slinger/pump. There are advantages to 2-stroke, they have heavier cranks/flywheels as a result they have high torque. They were popular in Australia, 2-Strokes made the iconic Australian company "Victa" billions and a household name. Cheers from sunny Australia!
I know for a fact that is a Suzuki engine. I used commercial versions of those mowers back around 1990 in Omaha Nebraska working for friends of mine who had a lawn service there. They are great mowers! The engines will run and run when taken care of! You have a true classic there! I’m glad I found your channel a couple years back! Hang on to that mower! Mark in Iowa.
Hey Mark thanks for watching! It seems most of these have been used up at this point despite being able to run forever. I would love to keep but would also like to see it go to someone who also appreciates them as I probably won't use it very much and I have the video to remember it by.
It is, I have a the Suzuki on top of the Rover aluminium base. Came here because mine stopped the other day and it's either a dodgy spark plug or a blocked jet. My dad and I both have one of these mowers and it's a joint hobby to keep them running. You can also still get a lot of spare parts for them online.
In 93 one friend had 4 of them and he made a living with these push mowers. , I tried to buy them when he passed but his family took them to Dallas with them, very nice mowers, they were easy to fix😊
I had a 1968 Toro Whirlwind that had the exact same deck, Tecumseh motor though. They must have been in production ahwile. The Toro CCR2000 snowblower also uses a Suzuki 2 cycle engine.
I see some on eBay for $800-$900. I won't let it go for much if any less! People who know these mowers know it's a good deal. Cheapest one listed for hundreds of miles around.
Unfortunately those 2 cyl, Toro's were only available for short time back then Toro's were sold by dealers atleast in my neighborhood 😊 so anyway there's not a big supply of them 😮
I needed that mower back in the day when I was cutting grass on a steep hill side I just looked up the engine and the Toro 2 cycle was the mower that was the best one for the money some one said that they are better than the lawn boy mowers of the 2 cycle variety
i have one just like this one, but its been outside for about 5 years i would love to get it running again lol ,but i know nothing about how to fix a lawn mower.

Hey Tom I gently took a pair of chan-nel-locks and slowly worked it off. I was afraid of damaging the gasket but everything held up once I put it back together. Surges a little on idle but runs great at mowing speed!
