I did push ups on the see through floor at the top of the tower. As a German I was so shocked, nearly scared to see so many friendly people. They dont try to beat up, stick you up, no. They say "Hi" and you have an amazing conversation with a total stranger. Best Eva.
You sure? Toronto's homicide rate per 100k people has been similar to NYC the last few years in the 3s. That is 2x that of London and 3x that of Paris. There are definitely weekly carjackings, robberies, shootings, assaults etc. It's not as safe as you make it out to be, definitely much more crime than any European city.
Born and raised in Toronto, I have never heard anyone refer to a Nanaimo bar as an "A bar". The Nanaimo bar was once sold at Tim's when I was a kid, it's my favorite desert. Canadian's can find Nanaimo bars at local supermarkets in the frozen section. Awesome video !
David, it’s been so nice seeing you 17 years ago when you first started. Truly enjoy this episode more reasons for me to have to go back to Canada to visit.🥰
Thank you so much Vanessa and yes you need to visit again. Except I recommend not in winter lol. Now that you've got that Florida cold resistance it won't be too easy heading back when its negative degrees. Hope you also have a great weekend.
Im part Canadian I remember coming to Toronto in 2006 for my high school field trip i had a blast. I wanna come back. So many great memories. Especially the CN Tower. Seeing this is so awesome bud
Welcome again to my City of Toronto, David. Happy to see you enjoying a little bit of what we have to offer. Happy also to see Nathan. Looking forward to the next video. Stay safe 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you so much Judy! It was so amazing to be in Toronto. So grateful to read your comment and Nathan sends his best wishes as well. A lot more Toronto videos to come though so stay tuned my friend. Hope you are doing really well.
@@Davidsbeenhere hi David. I am doing well. So happy to hear from you. I am looking forward to the rest of the series you did here. I am really enjoying it. You know a person can live in a city and not see everything and it's nice when someone visits and we can see it through his/her eyes/videos. Well done. Mucho amor, mi amigo.🙏🏻❤️. Well wishes to Nathan and his wife (I forgot her name). Well wishes to Brandon too❤️❤️
Thank you so much Judy! You are the best, and we are happy to see you too. Toronto is amazing, and I'm pretty sure there is a Judy shoutout somewhere here.
I'm so glad you had a chance to try Peameal bacon. It's cured in brine but _not_ smoked and it's really is only known in the greater Toronto and Southern Ontario area. I have commented on some videos about back bacon and was told that no one makes it any more. It's real. You had some. I love it.
They still make smoked back bacon. I lived in St. Davis’s Niagara Falls and every so often I usually buy a big box of smoke back bacon. Pea meal bacon is raw back. The smoke back is around $60.00 or so for a whole back. Up here are all the farms etc where you can get everything.
@@omaveira1979 Your comment seems to imply pea-meal bacon and smoked back bacon are the same thing. I'm pretty sure that was not your intention and that you know the difference, but others might not. Pea-meal bacon is brined and rolled in corn meal. Smoked back bacon is what we call back bacon and what Americans call Canadian bacon. They are quite different and TBH, I like pea-meal bacon a lot more.
David, you have to get roti and doubles if you're in Toronto. That's the main Toronto specific food. That's why I always comment on your Trini videos that you need to have Trini food in Toronto if you want to have the best version of it. I am from NY and go there just for the Trini and Jamaican food, it is WAYYYY better than in NYC.
I love this video & then i realized that was Sabrina whom i remember from 🇲🇦 food tours & more, her narration was always nice. Loved all the delicious 🇨🇦 food scene! Thx David & Sabrina!
Great view from the first restaurant with the train passing...awesome!!!....pancakes/maple syrup.....bacon Veda ...bagels done in brick oven...the Grafittis....really beaut II ful...nice as always. Thanks David..
awesome video . Actually going to Canada in October to visit and this makes it a bit easier to try places to eat lol. Also that Miami jacket is SUPER TOUGH. Sending you good vibes from Miami lakes.
Oh my goodness I will be going to Mildred this weekend for the Blueberry Pancakes 🥞. Thank you David for increasing my Blood Sugar but it will surely worth it for one morning enjoying Breakfast at Mildred😊😊😊
About the bagels and the long plank used (24:10) in the wood oven. In the Netherlands these are now called Schietplanken (bread shooting board). In our village where a baker's family used this plank for generations it was called the 'scheuter'.
Right this is on my menu ... I love Canadian bacon .. we hav to order online but I also love maple Syrup ... not the cheap fake ones lol ... love this vlog sir and hope ur ok an well my dear friend and brother ❤
Dude yes! Hope you are doing great too my friend. Sorry I was away and just returning now from the next video series. But I don't like Tim Hortons lol.. Over rated to me LOL.. Not real sweet person for coffee Just a touch. Bagel salmon capers one of my faves!!! I love poutine! great on a chilly day . And yes Lots of Canadians are friendly lol glad you felt welcome , smiles. Never had beaver tails but looked delish and the hot sauce oh yes I tried that with the samples I got and was so good on Poutine :) butter tarts are delish though dont eat them often mostly on holidays :) Good to see you Nathan and so happy for you♥ Great adventure. Will be looking forward to seeing more. I need to rest now take care Blessings for each of you♥♥
These pancakes remind me of Japanese pancakes and I am from Vancouver. Canada never had anything like that. They look great though. Love that you are in Canada ❤️
Thank you so much Krista! Always great to see your comments and I need to go to Vancouver soon too. These pancakes are to die for. They def were more Japanese pancake thickness although the consistency was classic North American pancake style. Still dreaming of eating those. And yea it’s so great to be here, need to hit up Vancouver and Montreal next, love my Canadian fam! Have a great weekend my friend
You had some good picks in the video. I hope you have a Caribbean food tour. J'kson is a new Vincy Caribbean spot, Old Nassau for Bahamian and can't miss Debe's Bakery for Doubles. Sugarkane and Creole Kitchen are nice too. We also have so many great options for Latin food. Hopefully you will cover that as well. Safe travels.
The Nom Nom Nom guy had me laugh out loud when he said you guys are covering all the stereotypes 😂 Too funny! What an enjoyable video. I hope you get the opportunity to visit Montreal.
I´m new here and your channel is really interesting, Idk if you have been to Dominican Republic but the food is really good there. Can´t wait to see more, keep up with the good content my guy!
Thank you so much and welcome to the channel. I have been to DR but I need to go again in the near future. I do some DR stuff in South Florida Miami where I'm based but def need to go to the island again to revisit. Agreed the food is amazing.
David is always around.... you better watch out mate... hahahah... btw david--glad you travelled to a different destination for once ....Keep it up pal 🐯🌍
Great episode. That croissant Benedict looks amazing. I like Canada. One of my favorite comedy shows was canadian. Corner Gas. So glad u still still post a lot u make my work better. Thanks.
definitely looking forward to more Toronto-area adventures, I hope! as a proud Hoser, I gotta say that apart from poutine I really don't eat any of those things. The outlying suburbs are where it's all at!
I adore Mildred Pierce's pancakes. Love that they have a special relationship with an Ontario maple syrup farmer. David I wish you had put Sabrina's social media contact. She is a great guide.
You inspired to.go around more in toronto ptomise i will visit what you visited the butter tart bagel and pouyine and better tail .i love your video am here new fan
Toronto is amazing you definitely should explore. The butter tarts are especially incredible, I still think of them. Thank you for the kind words and have a great one, welcome to the channel as well.
Yo Devan: Bread nut is called châtaigne in Trinidad, not because “Trinidadians like to be different”, but because of the influence of French refugees in Trinidad. In 1783, the Spanish colonial government of Trinidad, which was sparsely populated at the time, issued the Cedula of Population to encourage settlers. This decree offered generous land grants and tax incentives to Catholics willing to settle and cultivate the island. Many of the French refugees were Catholics fleeing persecution and turmoil during the French Revolution and found this offer appealing. The first indentured laborers from India arrived in British Guiana (now Guyana) on May 5, 1838 and in Trinidad on May 30, 1845 so the French derived term for breadnut, châtaigne, was in use in Trinidad long before the Indian arrival. Breadnut, known locally in Trinidad as châtaigne, was likely introduced to the island during the late 18th century as part of the broader efforts to enhance agricultural production in the Caribbean. This period saw a significant movement of plants across the British Empire, particularly following Captain William Bligh’s famous voyages in the 1790s, when he introduced breadfruit (a close relative of breadnut) to the region from the Pacific.
Hi David...so this was your first video in Canada....can imagine how you felt....going back...viewing now....really interested in knowing cause I hardly ever hear about Canadian cuisine....Thanks as always and have a safe blessed with your family. Peace.
Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world - stated by the UN more than one year. It doesn't have the glitz and glamour of Paris or NYC, but you see its beauty over time. The people are genuine.
Cool video but I have to say as someone from Toronto, you just ate breakfast food, poutine, and dessert. I'm a foodie, haven't heard of any of these place. Toronto is the most diverse city on Earth. It makes it hard to do a video called "Canadian foods". My typical lunches throughout the week could be chicken shawarma wrap, followed by Jamaican beef patty, followed by Italian veal sandwich, followed by butter chicken roti, followed by pork souvlaki on a pita with tzatziki.... my point being, toronto isn't canadian food. it's food of the world.
@@Davidsbeenhere thanks David I wish I knew u were in Town me and my daughter's would have loved to meet u in person we watch your channel religiously....and love your contents my brother...God bless you and Family Always throughout life's journey
Hey there, the restaurants are all listed in the video description. The name of the pancakes spot is called Mildred's Temple Kitchen, absolutely incredible pancakes!
That’s look exactly like the Canadian bagel. I know the owner he used to worked making bagel somewhere else. I wouldn’t say, but these bagels don’t last for more than a day.
Buddy our weather is the exact same as New York. It’s completely mild. We had about 6 inches of snow last winter. Buffalo and Minneapolis have more snow and cold temperatures than Toronto.
Nah Toronto is WAY colder than NYC. It's not even remotely close. I'm from NYC and worked in Toronto for 5 years. Toronto is bone chilling cold. NYC has had extremely mild winters for the last 8 years and it hasn't even snowed. (40F is pretty much as cold as it gets in the Winter now) and it It snows in Toronto every year and the lake effect windchill is icy cold.
@@darkhorse1280 Yeah Toronto is more like Chicago in the Winter. You can feel the chill penetrate your down parka. Never gets that cold in NYC, especially in the last 8 years or so, we barely even get snow now.
Pea meal bacon is not and has never been Canadian bacon as this was a product exclusively produced for the English population of the UK during ww2. Pea crust was to offer a protective layer to the product while in transit. Pancake is an American product nor is it Canadian. Here we have crêpes, baked beans with salted lard and blood sausage/pudding. Therefore their menu is much more reminiscent to those in the USA 😂 Fyi it is redundant to specify that maple syrup is organic as all maple syrup in Canada is organic. Only establishments that cater to uneducated people are capable of selling this. Acer saccharum (sugar Maple tree) are naturally organic therefore no need to specify. For those that don't know maple syrup is cheap in Canada. A can (540ml) sells for no more that 8.99$ but for those that know a gallon pack (8 can pack) sells for 2024 45-64$🤣. The higher price point is offered in large cities 😅. Maple syrup in Canada has no difference in taste nor in mineral content with USA maple syrup. You know the one produced in new england, new York, Vermont, maine and Michigan State. I keep scratching my head on the fact that this restaurant is so far removed from any traditional Canadian breakfast staples. Where are the maple syrup poached eggs? Where are the maple syrup donuts? Any of the various pork or venison quiches and creton. If +90% of maple syrup production and +70% of pork production, +75% of all dairies is from one sole province, it should be sensible to look at that jurisdiction as what a real Canadian breakfast is truly.😅
Alright ! so you mean Toronto has nothing much to offer for Canadian food! Toronto is based on Multi cultures society and heritage. Bagels go to Montreal , Poutine go to Montreal. But Toronto enjoy China town, enjoy Indian food in Brampton .. go to Scarborough to enjoy Persian, Jamaican food. Mississauga and those lovely Middle eastern bakeries and restaurants...etc.
Exactly. Pointless coming to Toronto if you don't have Island Foods roti and doubles, Islington station patty on a bun, Ritz's jerk chicken and coleslaw.
Curry goat or goat curry? Let’s address this issue. Curry is a spice blend used to infuse that specific flavor into your protein or vegetable of choice. Currying describes what is being done to, in this question, the protein ie infusing the curry flavor into the protein. As such the correct term is curry goat or, to be grammatically correct, curried goat. Same curried chicken, shrimp, fish, beef etc. “Curried” or “curry” is the adjective in the term while the protein is the noun. An adjective is a word that describes or defines a noun or noun phrase. Its semantic role is to change information given by the noun. So to say goat curry, duck curry etc suggests you are “goating” or “ducking” the protein, which is clearly absurd. Thus the correct term is curried goat, duck, shrimp, chicken or whatever protein you are flavoring. That being said, use whatever colloquial phrase you choose but, colloquially, curry goat etc is a more accurate description of the culinary process being performed
Our breakfast is more like an English breakfast, NOT American. We were a British colony and most of our ancestors are British pre 1990’s. Again, NOT American. Pea meal bacon is back bacon, that’s British, the only difference is the corn meal. And, those are Japanese pancakes, not Canadian pancakes
