What we’ve learned over recent times is any piece of equipment has a place when in a high rise there is sometimes no access to upper floors above a fire and the crap they build in to these buildings is lethal and fire spreads very quickly as seen in London London has invested in new platforms to cover for higher high rise buildings but I must agree there nothing better than man power at these jobs and let’s face it without having firefighters inside a lot of folks would have died invest in your firefighters don’t cut back because the way the world is your going to need them sorry for the rant from an old fireman stay safe folks 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

This is political optics, plain & simple. The reality is this expensive device will likely not be able to operate above a fire on a high rise. Because what do flames & smoke do? They go up, as seen during the Grenfell Tower fire in London. Even if it can operate in that situation, it will be able to rescue a handful of people when large high rises house hundreds. Also, Toronto being on a Great Lake, is prone to high winds, making the deployment of this thing unsafe & perhaps highly dangerous. The way to keep people safe is in proper designing of tall residential & business structures. Grenfell was very badly designed & renovated contributing to the huge loss of life. Covering a building with combustible cladding was bound to create an enormous torch in the event of fire. LFB's new 64m aerial platforms would have been of little use during this incident since the entire exterior went up in flames quickly.

I live in the Toronto area and just feel that beyond investing in firefighters, other best use of funding is simple prevention. Strong building codes, inspections that are enforced, education, preventing illegal builds (we have a housing crisis so lots of illegal basement apartments and poor conversions along with crowding), and cutting response times back.

Not a complete waste of money. Such a truck can be used for high angle rescue purposes.

Does it come with parachutes?

That truck is still fairly new, I hope that in ten years its still as reliable and hasn't become a maintenance nightmare. I wonder what the replacement cycle is for this apparatus.

How many people can be rescued with this from an upper floor .how long to bring em down then go get more . How to save lives .don't waste time ..put the fire out ! Heart and balls ! That's why we're here .

Any city/town with gigh rise building needs at least one, especially schools or hospital or nursing home

Somewhat funny…. Where one of the very large aerial trucks attempts to equal tower one I can just assume what’s going through a lot of the guys heads they’re pretty much ready to say “nice Toy Truck” To the other boys on the aerial truck (the one with the ladders)…..!!!!🥴

Not all fires sunshine what happens when for whatever reason the staircase is blocked…. I wish no ill will on anyone. Captain McKay sounds familiar however, let’s hope that none of your loved ones will be hanging onto the balcony of a 16th condo balcony with their only way out and tower one shows up one life pays for it. Numb nuts.

It takes so long to fully extend that the people would have burned to death half hour ago.

Would you enjoy your other option hopefully tower one can get up to your Bal Oni or you’re only option is to jump. I meant to watch that thing coming up and you’re on. The balcony certainly feels like ours but again if you can get on the balcony have a condo for example, and hopefully it works out whereP that boom can get to you or your loved ones so I’d rather have a belief in something that’s coming to help rather than nothing you know other option as mentioned you could jump, or if you were prepared you’d have three parachutes on your balcony and you would’ve done some practising of parachute, jumping and then maybe you could save your own ass……

High rise fires are fought from the interior. Well trained firefighters are the most useful resource at a high rise operation. This tower is an enormous waste of money.
@seanconlin8712

There are times that highrise fires involve rescue that cannot be done from the interior. People are cut off from the exits due to smoke toxic gases and the fire itself. So rescue has to be effected from the exterior. Hence this is were Tower 1 comes in to play the city of Toronto has way too many highrise buildings over the length of a standard arial ladder. Tower 1 is a rescue apparatus yes it can flow water or act as a water source for interior attack should the standpipe be compromised. It also can give the incident commander an overall veiw of the scene by way of cameras and give wind and weather data. So it is definitely not a waste.

Why not employ helicopters with water scoops to to put out high rise fires?
@johngallo4065

The height of buildings determines who lives and who dies! Please remember 9/11/01 and the Twin Towers! I have been in those buildings many times. No aerial ladder can reach the top of these enormous tall buildings. Plus no human could climb a ladder that big! So a fire in those buildings is fought inside the building! Many times that is impossible due to the extreme heat and flame. So if you are above the floor of the fire, you may not survive! There must be a limit on how tall a building can be! The taller, the bigger the risk!!! As for this Bronto Sky Tower, it's probably several million dollars to purchase which questions, do we need this piece of equipment??? All answers for these questions should be a limit on how high a building can be!!! The higher a building, the higher the death rate will be if we have a fire!
