The ONLY problem, as we both know, is the Leafs have themselves in the most ridiculous cap situation where they can't under any circumstances ''pay (or trade) their way out of''... NTC's for players who have ZERO incentive to leave plus a ''core four'' who now take up over 53% of the team cap = death for the Leafs. Adding another ''core'' player to this mix wouldn't just be unwise, it would surely make the Leafs the biggest laughing stock in the NHL because of how horribly mismanaged they are.
Kampf needs to go but Jarnkrok i say keep him, He’s making 2.1 and fits in literally every single scenario/line. His role isn’t to score his role is to provide defence and a bit of offence and he does that amazingly. Kampf on the other hand he almost only plays on the 4th line and is never mixed in with the top lines. 2.4 for a designated 4th liner can’t be done here.
I wouldn't keep bertuzzi, I love his grit, but not worth the price tag. Domi is rumored for 4mill and brings grit with nice playmaking abilities which means you can have the big three on different lines. Couldn't get that with bertuzzi

This team will be so toxic if he comes back. it’ll eat him up inside knowing A) he’s not gonna get resigned B) the fan base will have all but turned against him. I’d like looking at a deal for John Marino from the Devils if he’s available. Not overly physical, but similar to TJ Brodie when he first came to Toronto. Just super steady defensively. And I guess Zadorov? I’m just nervous there’s gonna be a bidding war. Possibly Carrier as well. Or you just get 1 Dman and improve the forward core more.
Question Would you trade Jarnkrok for Connor Brown? Would you trade Lilijgren? Would you ask Morgan Reilly to waive his no move clause? Brodie is not returning an option ? Is Kadri an option ? Term for Bertuzzi and Domi may not be an issue ? The salary and term might be . For players who say they want to stay be a leaf but ask for the moon compared to their offensive output and defensive liabilities
I really hope they can get 2 of the top guys on D but my gut tells me They will sign 1. Then they will go with a cheaper option , someonelike a Carrier. Just so it does allow them that little extra space upfront . They wont have the space to really GO FOR IT until Tavares is off the books. To me this season isnt about lets try and put every single piece in place to win a cup. TO me this year needs to be about lets find the PERFECT fits lets not force anything , if that only means getting one guy like a Roy then so be it. Next year with that 11M they can afford to really spread that out and really take a run at the cup properly.
Kampf is a good 4th line center and pker. He plays heavy and can chip in a little offensively. And he had as many goals in the playoffs last year as Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi.
@@MClaudiusMarcellus he is a fine 4th line player but those guys are a dime a dozen and good GMs know not to pay those players much more than league min. Not only did they overpay, but they gave him term AND a NMC. Again... Egregious.

No they cant. With the amount of holes in the roster that need to be filled and players that need new contracts. Its not possible unless you move on from marner

Jarnkrok has 5 goals in 90 games because the leafs think the way you do and instead of augmenting people so they can succeed they look at raw numbers like it is a video game and think they know all the answers.
He played 75 of 93 career playoff games in Nashville & Calgary and scored 4 goals. So I guess you’re lumping them in with me and the Leafs as well? Or what?
@@DownTownSports98 You cannot place the value of some players based on numbers. Some people are put in the deposition to succeed and some are put in the position to fail. Under Keefe and Dubas, we had a 3rd liner that was expected to carry a line offensively with players who had no hope of scoring. McDavid and the top 5 players were held off the scoring sheet for the first 5 games against Florida. This is how it works. Where are we going to find a 17-goalscorer for 2 million dollars that can play on the PP and PK??? If they are easy to find, GET MORE! don't get rid of the ones we have.
Connor Dewar has had excellent results on the PK his whole career. I trust him to also not score or score just 1 goal in 18 games. It’s a low bar. He shouldn’t cost more than $1M.
@@DownTownSports98 Connor Dewar has a really low ceiling. there was a time when you would get guys like Easton Cowan and Kiefer Bellows and put them on the 3rd or 4th line in a checking role. If they could not play defense you got rid of them. If they prove themselves in that role, they could get a shot at a top 6 role. If you want a team that has a chance to play defense and win, you need players who can score AND play defense. The approach of the Leafs is very bad. You need to give kids like Timmins, Lajoie, and Bellows a chance. If they don't work out, you can move them for picks. If they do, you potentially have a Durzi, Marchment, or Verheghe.
kämpf NEED ton be offloaded. sign a vet center for 3rd line duties and if they dont trade Minten, put him or Steeves on the 4th line. Kampf should never have gotten more than 1 million as a 4th liner who dopant even hit or fight. My God!!
nobody in the nhl is signing domi , but appparently leaf fans cant understand why they cant win , well signing players nobody else in the league wants and overpaying is one reason why, nobody is paying bertuzzi either , if you continue to sign losers thats what your franchise will become , the leafs and their fans will never except reality
Anyone who has looked at the analytics will tell you Domi is going to get some decent offers. His offensive production is very good, considering his role on the Leafs and getting almost no powerplay minutes.

Kampf, after 1G & only 11 pts on a dogshit Chicago team (how Dubas got him as a UFA for 2 x 1.5M) produced 26 & 27 pts as the Leafs shutdown centre with Mikheyev, Engvall, Kerfoot & others on his wings. Let's be fair, Reaves & Gregor didn't really provide the same quality whatsoever. Your projection omits any mention of the RFAs. Liljegren 3M, Robertson 1M (no arb rights) & Dewar (who I like a lot) 1.2M perhaps, will absorb 5-6M of the 18.8M CapFriendly shows the Leafs as having. That leaves 12-13M for, at minimum 1 RD, a solid tandem goalie (likely 2-3M) & Domi. There's no room for more. I still believe either Cowan or Minten will make the club & assuming that happens, things may be different again.
If Domi doesn't avail himself of the opportunity to remain a Leaf for 4 yrs, he's a fool. He's a Toronto guy, so if you just want the most money, then go elsewhere. For a guy who's been on multiple teams over his career, maybe stability on a club that has made the post-season for 8 consecutive years will inspsire him to agree to a 'hometown' discount. 4 x 4M is the max if I'm the GM. If Tree wanted to be a hard-ass, he could gamble that Domi won't get anywhere near that number from anyone else & then offer 3 x 3M when the music stops. Who knows. I'm unsure they can also afford Bert, given the likely cost to improve the D & find a quality tandem goalie to pair with Woll. We'll find out relatively soon.
