The Walk in the tunnel is 4-5 minutes! Important Note: We took every precaution when filming this video including keeping our distance and wearing several layers of PPE! Stay safe!

I timed my walk, from the new tunnel west end doors below the new Bus Terminal, to the new tunnel east end doors below the TTC Passenger Pick Up & Drop Off building, as 1 minute and 55 seconds … say 2 minutes. Therefore that new tunnel is not very long. Wonder if your comment regarding a 4-5 minute walk in the tunnel includes time walking through the existing TTC Kipling subway station, plus walking through the new Bus Terminal.

they could have very easily installed moving walkways in the connector tunnel to speed up the walk some, but it still would beat walking outside when the weather is bad.

It's really good to see the planners actually thinking about integration finally. Ten or fifteen years ago, putting in a pedestrian tunnel would have been discarded out of hand, and the fact that it's technically navigable at street level would have been 'sufficient'. The walk is still abysmally long - not sure what can be done about that. Travellators seem to be perpetually cursed in Canada because of the road salt, and I'm not aware of any 'heavy duty' designs. All in all, great video. Thanks for bringing us 4k video of the new projects - a really nice underrated touch.

The Ottawa Valley is yet to get this kind of regional transport network, other than highways, but I figure that we'll need it sometime in the next decade.

Y'know despite this place looking great and very modern it lacks small shops, vending machines and other things people would need when moving about (I'm sure there's people wanting to get a fresh cup of coffee along the way) Like the underground tunnel, they could have set up shops instead of boring dull walls like Islington station with their underground shops. Or at the very least vending machines but not the basic crappy ones, instead the more moderns ones you see in more progressed countries like Japan.

It's great to see MiWay and TTC develop their new bus terminal at Kipling. Also, thanks for giving a shoutout for VIVA rapid transit as I live in that area. Now I'm excited for that video covering the completed projects for York Region Transit. While I don't commute that much anymore, I still respect the public transit agency and I enjoy a lot of videos you have posted. Keep up the great work!

The one thing im disappointed about this station is that the ttc subway is not built in it, but instead is connected by lousy tunnel. Its also so weird (and annoying) to me that ttc busses have to stop somewhere else, but go and miway are in one dedicated area. Why not unify everything into one building 🙄🙄 All in all im happy with how modern and nice the station looks, the consistency in design and the little unique touches like the mosaic, makes me want to use transit even more!

You could not afford maintenance costs, if a moveator was installed in the pedestrian tunnel. Winter salt and grit would quickly destroy components. That is why the TTC got rid of the originally installed moveator in Spadina Station connection tunnel between Lines 1 & 2. This short walk through the tunnel is healthy exercise for you.
@RMTransit

Due to the overhead high voltage lines ( 3 rows of hydro towers ) running north-south between the TTC Kipling subway station, and the new Bus Terminal, construction cranes have to be very careful working in that middle-of-site area. That is why the parking lot is located there, and why the Bus Terminal is located at the west end of the site ( huge cranes had to lift the 2 overhead pedestrian bridges into place ).

Having walked through the bus terminal and its ridiculously long walk to the subway, it baffles me why they didn't just extend the subway west to the old Honeydale Mall by the 427, where they could have built a well-integrated bus terminal. It couldn't have been for cost--they could have kept the subway entirely above ground.

@stephenwickens3964
@stephenwickens3964 3 года назад
We used to have one joining the two disparate parts of Spadina TTC station, but there was an unwillingness to maintain it. Usually, if you have a really long tunnel or a need for a moving sidewalk within public transit facilities, you have built in some design problems.
@superfriendlyaviator9889

@radagastwiz

One of the factors that led to the Spadina travelator failure was apparently the amount of road salt tracked in during the winter by pedestrians. I don't know if newer designs can now better account for that.

@@radagastwiz We certainly don't get as much snow as Canada (or at least as a Brit imagines Canada) but we do get a lot of ice and frost in the winter and as such road gritters are a common sight from November - February here, so I'd imagine greater difficulties if this wasn't already a solved issue.

The contrast is definitely noticeable. The subway station looks like no one cared about the metro in designing it. You don't have to go al lout like the USSR in its station design (though if they could afford, other rich nations can), but giving your patrons a pleasant experience, a piece of infrastructure they could be proud of, doesn't seem unreasonable to me. But jeez, would it have killed them to paint some of the walls, those neat murals not withstanding? It is all still fairly basic, and all that cream colour... That can get pretty messy in winter. I'm with you on the inconvenience of the long walk. It's all headed in the right direction, but you wish they would do it completely right. It's not like they don't know how. If the politicians had to use public transit, there would be some changes and fast! What's going to happen to the other bus terminal? I'm not sure I got what the final end goal is.

The signage going from the subway platform is abysmal and that walkway tunnel is too long. Between navigating the station buildings and the long tunnel it usually takes me 10 minutes for me to get from the subway to the bus. This is a terrible station and I found even the old Islington bus bays to be much more usable than this overbuilt garbage.
