That's Dah Mao from Toronto. He and Er Shun have been back in China for several months now. When I was in Chengdu 5yrs ago , I did look for Po who had been renamed Ah Po but I couldn't find her. She may have been in seclusion for the breeding program. Po was actually found to be a female even though she had been named by Jack Black as a male.

@anewleaf2668 unfortunately if these bears were left alone in fhe wild they would be extinct. Even the pamdas released after conservation intervension need to be monitored. They are usually goofy creatures and often times baby pandas need tp be reared with nannies because they don't know how to poop properly and they could get constipated and die

They have been endangered mainly because of the destruction of their habitat!! On the foothills near the mountains where the pandas dwell, the villagers were clear cutting the forests for commercial wood logging, & meanwhile destroying the bamboo forests without worrying about the animals which share that land !!! So the pandas had no food to eat & almost died of starvation!! Their youngsters had no tall trees to climb or hide from other predators!! Also, poachers stole the young cubbies from the nests while their mommies had to forage for food, often far away from their hideouts. Some unfortunate adult pandas were killed for their beautiful fur!! From the late 1800's to the early 1950's, Europeans & Americans hunted pandas for their zoos & to glorify their male egos by adding such "adventure in the wild" experience to their personal resumes !!! But since the mid 1980's, the Chinese government have legislated laws to protect the pandas & their environment in China ( & for other endangered species as well) !! They have offered jobs to the villagers to re-plant bamboo trees & to become forest rangers where the pandas live! They set up a major panda research & breeding centre at Wolong in Szechuan Province. A back-up research centre at Bifengxia has been open since the May 2008 earthquake that left Wolong unfit for work, but recently it has been partially restored to house pandas that are targeted for re-entry into the wild !!!
