In my grocery store this squash is called acorn squash. And butternut squash is light brown longer in size with a round at the end . Thank you for the recipe… sorry for your loss
So many fond memories of you at Bronx Science! I had Mrs. Errante (rest in peace) for Italian, and Mrs. Elmosnino for Latin, but I had you for Scientific Illustration. So much joy. I love seeing you cook such intricate and joyful Italian recipes! Thank you for sharing your kitchen on the cliff.
Thank you Peter! How wonderful to hear from you. Mrs. Errante followed me after I introduced Italian, and Mrs. Elmoznino is still my close friend. I loved all my classes, but Scientific Illustration was very special and I was so proud of my wonderful students! You were not only smart and full of enthusiasm but very talented as well! 🌹 ❤️ 🌹
How cool is this!!?? To see your old high school teacher now teaching Italian cooking on RU-vid!! She's still wonderful isn't she!!?? I would have loved to have had her as one of my teachers!
I came here from the Bronx Science Alumni Newsletter. I had you for art in the mid 1980s, and I had Ms. Martin for Chinese for two years. She was a fantastic teacher and, more importantly, one of the kindest and friendliest people I have ever known. It was all genuine, too -- not a hint of insincerity. I am a teacher now, myself, and hearing of this loss reminds me to treat my students the way Ms. Martin treated hers. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for your kind words; I will pass your comments on to Mrs. Martin's daughter and son-in-law. She was indeed one of the kindest, most generous, and truly loving person I have ever known. She will continue to live in our hearts and minds. She was a force of nature whose mission in life was to share, to teach, to love, and to make the world a better place.
So sorry for the loss of your friend. I so look forward to your videos. My Grandmother passed almost 20 years ago. I wish I would have had a way to record videos of her making her recipes. So wonderful you and your granddaughter make these videos and are kind enough to share them with all of us.
My mom also passed away almost 20 years ago (in December). I have her recipe book, an old accounting journal that has «January 1965» crossed out and «Recipes» added.☺️ And filled with recipes from family and friends.I also have a whole such bound lined book with my own recipes that I have collected through the years. I have thought of typing them all, illustrating with images and get them turned into a book to give to my nieces/nephews. I would have appreciated such a book myself, hopefully they would too… 🤗

I remember you telling me when you and Felice were little, and you had a sleep-over at her house that she took you out for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner! You were so delighted!🎻 🌹 🎼
Grazie ancora una volta: grande ricetta! (sentivo l'odore della salvia anche su RU-vid)!! Un salutone agli "attori" "degustatori" e a Francesca che diventa sempre più brava e professionale. Baci a tutti
Ahh watching your videos makes my heart happy! Amazing recipes, makes me fall in love with our culture every time. Sorry about your friend and may she rest beautifully. Sending love from an Italian-Australian!! Jennifer.
Thank you for sharing these marvelous recipes. Your video production quality is absolutely spot on with the lighting and set design aesthetics, and great sound quality. Well done to your granddaughter. I have been binge watching and shared it with my wife and now she’s also a subscriber. I will be looking forward to making these recipes in the very near future.
Complimenti come sempre Giovanna per la tua bravura, chiarezza e passione. Farò i tortelli seguendo la tua ricetta :D P.s: quando torni in Sicilia batti un colpo :)
So sorry for your loss. I love watching your videos. If I may however, the squash you used is acorn squash not butternut squash. I’m sure no matter which squash you use, it’s delicious ☺️
Thank you, Monique, for your kind words. Of course, you're right, I used an Acorn squash but I called it Butternut. Actually, either one can be used. Sorry!
Signora LaMarca, Conosce qualche buona ricetta di pasta senza glutine?
I must get a roller! Also I need to know where I can get a rolling pin like all of the Italian pasta grannies and you have! I have my old one from a 100 years ago to make biscuits and pie crusts etc...I use my pasta queen to roll out my dough for my ravioli spaghetti and fettuccini.. But I've always wanted to try and roll it by hand and to to stuff and to cut the shapes with the roller...I must find one! I first used my my old rolling pin 37 years ago the first time I made ravioli for my ex husband who is also Italian. His mother Marion gave me my pasta queen when she found out I rolled all the dough by hand with the one my mom gave me that is much bigger around and has the handles for pies & biscuits! My mother has Scelroderma and her hands became so crippled she could no longer make or roll pasta dough. I wonder what kind of fruit was in the jar... Was it apricot preserves? I bet they're so delicious! Thanks for showing us how to make these! Love you!
Dear Annette, I suggest that you go to FANTE's Kitchen Shop in Philadelphia: www.fantes.com/ where you will find tools of every kind which can be ordered on line. I just searched for rolling pins, and I found the very same ones, in many lengths, that Pasta Grannies use. In fact, I will order one to replace the broomstick from the hardware store for a long Italian rolling pin with pretty turned ends. The fruit that I used is Mostarda di Cremona, whole fruits which a preserved and flavored with a hint of mustard, and served with meats, and affettati (Italian cold cuts). Buon Appetito!
I do almost the same as you the thing i change is no Mostarda , i add caramelized onions an roast those small tom thumb pumpkins. I will get the Mostarda an try that. thank you. Saw you on pasta grannies.
Butternut squash is called «bottle pumpkin» here in Norway, because of the bottle-like shape of the squash. But the ones you used look entirely different both in shape and color. Does the dark green one have a different name also? 🤗
Hi Annie (another cousin) That was Sonja's trick: she folded the tissue is such a way that it was propelled straight up and the fire was spent before it reached the ceiling. Still, you are right, and, we read the riot act to Nicoletta who was afraid to light a match until she was way past childhood! Do try the tortelli, they are delicious!
