My family friends growing up were Mexican and when I'd stay the night they're abuelita would make these tortillas fresh every morning for breakfast and it was soo good with some refried beans and eggs with chorizo. I'll never forget that
I remember my mom's homemade flower tortillas I could smell them down the block I was as I was walking home from school and the fresh one off the Comal with butter man talk about memories!
My grandma would make tortillas until the Albuquerque Tortilla Factory started selling them. Fast forward many many years later and my MIL makes them. She never buys store bought. I have my husband’s grandma’s recipe and when I’m not feeling lazy I make my own. Fresh tortillas with freshly roasted NM green Chile with garlic salt…the BEST!!!!!!
For anyone that feels like Lard is too much for them or just can’t find it anywhere here are several substitutes. 1. Butter 2. Canola Oil 2. Vegetable Oil Hope this helps. ❤
A lady I worked with At The Florist she would make homemade tortillas before she left. She said they were all gone by the time she got off work. Mexican cooking is some of the most delicious
Thank you!! I never see anyone use baking powder but that's how my mom taught me and I've been making them for over 50 yes. Mom said that I would never find a woman to make my tortillas like hers and she was right. Lol😅😅😅
My grandma just put them directly on the burner. She had a gas stove top. She would always make a LARGE batch when she made flour tortillas. I miss my grandma ❤
Goes to show how everyone makes things differently and the result is still great! I let mine rest so gluten can form and I use baking powder to make them pillowy and pliable.
Man waking up on those saturday mornings hearing Spanish music and smelling the tortillas, memories like crazy, then coughing because the chile was next ha ha ha 😂
No baking powder? I love fresh made tortillas. Takes me back to high school. My best friends abuelita would make tortillas every morning. She always had a skillet with beans or nopales to make tacos. Best pre-school breakfast ever.
Ughh, i hate it when people use the Jota when referring to Mexico. I use to live in Spain and never liked them spelling Mexico with a J . Please, It is spelled Mexicano !
Mad respect to this lady for rolling out the tortillas, and not using one of those weird press contraptions. My Mom uses a rolling pin to make tortillas ❤
I used 3 cups of flour to 1 cup of water and I put half a cup of shortening or large and about a tablespoon salt but make sure your water is very hot to melt the shortening or the lard. I need it real well then you spread it and you can use a griddle. You don’t have to use a pan put it down the first time once it bubbles you turn it over and once it’s brown on the on the bottom, you turn it once more and it’s done hope this helps
