Dude Torts standing up for a dude that he clashed with multiple times, always remembering that he's a person. I don't always see eye to eye with the coach, but man, he's a real one.

Torts is absolutely right on this. The reporter basically caused Kevin Hayes death threats and mocking ms of his dead brother. That’s at best irresponsible and at worst pure evil.
The reporter didn't cause the death threats and trolling, people decided to do that all on their own. I think the reporter was fully in the wrong, love Torts, and love his response here, but I think it's Philly sports fans that should be the most embarrassed here.

@@VestuYep. Torts get labeled an "a$$hole." My view is that he speaks his mind, holds people accountable and refuses to put up with nonsense. Reminds me of my junior varsity 🏈 coach when I played high school ball. My coach used choice language towards us and called us out when we deserved it. Yet, we loved playing for him. Cause he cared about us, wanted success for us, worked very well with the personnel he had, always had our backs and genuinely did not play favorites.

Torts seems like a great guy to play for. He may be tough and demanding but he has your back. If Gauthier didn't want to be a Flyer because he's scared of him, then that says more about him than it says anything about Torts. He's had the same approach for almost 25 years.
Let's also not forget the numerous wins, playoff appearances, a Stanley cup, oh and a Calder cup. He's one everywhere he's gone. Says more about him as a coach than anything.

I've been a part of a few of these situations that were similar. Kid signs with a team. Team says he should take more time to develop. Kid gets pissed, sounds off to another guy who recently left the team Former player tells him coach is ass and hard to play for Kid decides to jump ship since he thinks/knows he's ready for the NHL Multiple people have said Hayes has his prints all over this. Which gets down to what Hayes said. As long as Hayes is still in the league, he's never going to come 100% clean on what they talked about or what he may have said to Gauthier and he can just deny it till the cows come home. The other part is HOW Gauthier interpreted what Hayes said. What if he just said Torts is a demanding coach so be prepared - or maybe we went full scorched earth and said Torts is an ass, the org sucks, the GM sucks, you shouldn't play there. We'll never know. In the end, Torts' stood up for Hayes which is admirable and defended their relationship. Philly is playing some great puck right now so I doubt this story has any real legs and should die down pretty quickly.

I Love torts. Always have. I wish more people spoke their mind and say what's truly on their mind the way that he does instead of trying to not offend the NHL so they don't get fined.
John tortorella is a great coach. I loved him in Vancouver. Everyone blocks shot like for the Canucks the sedins even blocked shots. It doesn’t matter if you’re an all star your still blocking shots that’s what makes him so good
But that’s why it didn’t work. They aren’t a shot blocking group. Plus the drama of benching Luongo and everything. Just, bad for us. However, I will say, he had and still has my respect for how he dealt with the line brawl vs the Flames
Negative. While I don’t agree with shot blocking in general. That’s not why the nux sucked. The team was done. And on decline. Nobody could turn that around. Sedins weren’t game changes anymore. When you see what EP and Hughes do now changes games. Seasons. And playoffs. Sedins had it but was already past best before date. This one not on torts.
Can’t say I’m a huge fan of Tort BUT I can’t applaud him enough for addressing the issue this way and rip the reporter a new one. The reporter had the audacity to cite organization sources
As a Bruins fan...I can't like Coach Tortorella...but as a hockey fan and even as a human being...I *love* how he sticks with his team AND (especially) when he pounds on the BS from the "press". Keep it up, Coach!
The media is the absolute worst. As a Leafs fan, I can attest and sympathize. You might not like him, but good on Torts for sticking up for his players.
Torts my all time favourite NHL coach. People that have played for him said he is a respectable coach and players love him. The guy has a heart of gold for his players and stands by their side.

Torts is who I would want as my coach. I love his passion. I want to play for a guy who wants to win as much as me. It would light a fire up my arss to play for a guy like that!
Today's media is awful. Crazy that hayes got death threats over a young dude that did everything except say beat it to the flyers is nuts. Flyers got a good return in a position they need to get better at first.

Torts is a blunt, honest and tough but ultimately a fair coach/boss. You always know where he stands with you. Young players or players not used to that style will take that as him being an a-hole. Other or older players who've seen different styles of coaching may not like his approach sometimes but will always respect him and know that he cares.
Torts isnt the best at PR, but this was just fine with me. It will probably help team solidarity more then anything, so it serves more then one purpose

I saw this from Torts when he was in Van. Lesser fans never appreciated this man. Every call he made about the Canucks team was right. Too old. So and so had to go. All true. How many Canucks coaches, past and present, have a cup and could have taken that jackets team past the lightning? This man isn’t the goat nor top tier, but he’s def a small small step behind That. I have no connection to the Flyers but I will always root for any team that employs Tortorella after his comments back when he was the US Olympic oach. He made it clear that anyone who knelt during the Anthem “wouldn’t see the ice”. The POS media gave him flack for it but the man flat-out has morals.

Torts has always been a coach that just loves the game. Hes willing to do hard things with his team that u have to do as a coach. When a coach starts making decisions based on who he likes off the ice the team will get pissed on the ice they arent making the tough decisions. I had a coach like that who wouldnt play his best lines on pp but on pk he let the D coach run lines and he ran the right lines. The head coach didnt wanna hurt feelings but the team wants to win play the best guys for the job. If u cant do that u cant coach. Torts is a coach u want. Fight for u off the ice but will tell u ur shit on the ice if u are
