WOW... They still have it 25yrs later!! I had just watched their original dance to Bolero!! It would be awesome to see them live performing!! NO ONE can touch them!!
that was AMAZING!!!!.....22 years later....a little bit more out of breath but they can stlll perform it as amazing as they did the first time......THEY ARE TRULY LEGENDS.
i love seeing jayne and chris perform bolero it is dazzling to watch and is outstanding every time and i dont know how they have made different versions
Wow! I watch their performance back in 1984 and impressed me a lot, today I am more impressed to see they did it better this time 22 years later. Torvill and Dean are my favorite!
its just magic when they perform this!!!!! i love them both - this was the best of the 3 i think!!! im so glad they came back to do dancing on ice cos i wern born wen they performed this the first time-so to see them do it again - just AMAZING!!!
No matter which, of the many vairities, of Bolero i watch it brings a lump to my throat. Watching JnC and especially watching them skate Bolere, were via video or live it makes me proud to no only be British but to say I'm also from Nottingham. Cant not WAIT to see them live again this year.

They've said in interviews that there was a time when they thought "oh no, not bolero again" but i think as they've matured they've grown to appreciate it again.
yeah they are amazing. They may be on the older side but they are still the best skaters ever. They're performances on DoI are just as good and entertaining as the ones they did when they were younger.
They did another version of the 1984 original bolero this year for the 4th series of DOI. This version of bolero is from the first series of Doi shown in 2006!
makes me proud to be british =D i think its great how they've stayed fit and are able to do wot they love as well as entertain millions all the times chris pushed jayne and made her cry really paid off :) go torvill and dean!!
the original was heart stopping. I remember it well I also saw them on a World tour.course there not as sharp as 25 years ago., but still womderful..,.
I am betting you, though, that if Torville and Dean were skating now, young now, they would still rise to the occasion. They were sited as one of the reasons the complicated lifts came into the programs. Old computer, new computer...they were the best of the best at that time, and I believe would probably be a top of the line computer today. I still say NO-ONE can beat them.
There is another series but i doubt it will get bigger. They did a bolero on tour this year and that rink i'm told is 2/3rds bigger than the studio rink. The studio rink has to be a certain size to fit in the studios down at Elstree along with an audience and all set things.
yeah, they are. They've done another 3 versions. '07, '08 and '09 - '09 was particular close to the '84 original as it was the 25th anniversary. I was lucky to see it 3 times on the DOI tour last year.
play bolero and sing theses words to it.. Its the second act in the "Sara-the musical" The setting is a small sewting room with 4 people, and the main character in this act (Vicky) is singing about how terrible her life is.. it goes... Years, I've been sitting here in this little room, mending clothing everyday for people who dont know or care, just how I work my fingers to the bone for so little reward,
if u watch the DOI series 2 dvd u'll hear christopher dean say as long as you start on your knees and end on the floor its the bolero and that anything in between is your own interpretation of the music. i dont remember reading anywhere that the bolero stays the same. and oh yeah, they're coming up to 50, they can hardly do they same lifts as they could then can they?
@mortussia - Yes the start and big part's of it where edited. The whole dance shortened by 90seconds to just 3mins does not help. Jayne was 27 and Christopher was 26 back in February 1984 for the Winter Olympic's (and also the 1984 World Championship's at the tail end of March, where they went 1 * 6.0 better and got 13 - 9 for Artistic impression again and 4 instead of 3 for technical ability). Roll forward to the first series of Dancing on Ice and they were 22 years older
Comparing Virtue & Moir to Torvill & Dean is like comparing Federer to Borg. Borg is/was a great player but today's game is far more physical and there are more possibilities with the new technology. Comparing them is like comparing top of the range computer today with a top of the range computer then but the current top range couldn't have happened without the first top range. Also remember, the scoring system is completely different now, its much less subjective now as it was in 1984!
It's a pitty that, probably due to sheduling by ITV, the full routeen wasn't done. Still if I'm half as flexable as they are when I'm in my 50s I will be very happy
go on, do it. I bet you can't. Learn it, video it, put it on youtube and then we'll see. Of course its basic compared to these days but that is only because it has evolved as a sport and that is down to Torvill and Dean. The ISU changed the rules due to this awesome performance.
obviously using similar lifts and stuff inbetween but u cnt expect every version to be the same can you? and anyway, no matter what sequence of moves they do it still has an air about it that should send shivers down ur spine.
it's a pitty the studio only had a one-third size ice rink to perform on. Any chances of it being moved to a full size one for next year? (If they is another series)
Are you sure its Ravel's bolero? There are a lot of boleros out there. I can't find anything about this musical. Any lyrics would have been added by the writer of the musical so they wouldn't be official lyrics.
Then, when I am finished for the day, I am so tired I can't, even pray, For, someone to save me, from this fate, and take me from this life, that I hate, So I will be, set free from all of this, drudgery. Yet, I don't even know, How I go on.
I am not an expert but this is as well as they won the GOLD in the Olympics by far the best piece in figure skating I have ever seen...Such a great match together with the Bolero. I am speachless!
Of course its not exactly the same - they are 22 years older and this is 3mins shorter than the Olympics and you have to realise that no two versions of the bolero are the same - the one they performed in Europeans was not the same as the one they performed in the Olympics and that was not the same that they performed in Worlds which was not the same as the countless versions they performed in their tours. The essence of bolero is still there and it is still as mesmerising.
I'm listening to this video through my headphones, and seriously and headphones were crackling slightly because of the volume of people cheering at the end!
The Live Final Of Dancing On Ice 2006 Where The 3 Finalists Skate Live For Your Votes For The Last Time To Become Your Very First Dancing On Ice 2006 Champion
It's not a farce. You can't expect the celebrities to be amazing skaters, they are just beginners. It's just a light-hearted entertainment show. Stop being so serious
Torvill and Dean - No Olympic pair has ever done better than they did. I remember one year when another couple tried to skate to Bolero. What were those two fools thinking - it was a sad thing and an insult to Torvill and Dean.
So the Bolero means doing an ice dance to the composition "Bolero" using the opening few seconds and the closing seconds, thats mental. Why do they say OOOHHH the the Bolero, its just any dance to the music entitled Bolero.
As a Canadian I am much more emotionally attached to Virtue and Moir. They represent my country and they're very likeable people. Likewise, if someone asked me which performance I enjoyed more between Virtue and Moir and Torvill and Dean I'm going to have to say I liked Virtue and Moir-- but that is for personal reasons. However, I don't think an intelligent Ice Dance fan from any country could honestly say that Virtue and Moir were /better/ then this pair. I agree with you prigg88.
NO, NO, NO, not you, I don't mean you, I mean Philip and Holly and everyone on the show talking about the dance like its the same, it may have as well have been a different dance, only the music is the same and that is a different version, its faster for a start, its like wow, I've been waiting 25 years to see that again, no its a different dance, they should do the same one really.
no disrespect to jayne, but with her aging physique, she should start wearing costumes with flowy sleeves when dancing--particularly with chris. or at least in any way she gets her arms covered when dancing. unless she gets her arms supertoned like michelle obama's. her costuming on this one just jars the flow of the dance for me.
