Caballe had a formidable voice herself and an immaculate technique to go with, so it doesn’t surprise me that her voice cuts through the orchestra so easily. Also, this is being recorded from orchestra level at the Met. The balance is not the best at that level, all you get is orchestra there. I’m sure in the family circle it sounded great.
