Repair of a Toshiba V5470B (Beta / Betamax format). Part 1 of 2. Let's see if we can get a picture from a video recorder which is almost 40 years old. Working examples of this model are now very rare. It uses a mechanical type deck with lots of drive belts and pulleys. Probably the first video recorder to use an LCD clock, which was always an unusual display choice.

I was Toshiba VCR technician work in Hong Kong at early 1980, thanks to bring back my memory ! This model most common problem is the loading motor belt need to replace often

Was Toshiba Beta more-reliable than Sanyo Beta, or Sanyo Beta better than Toshiba?

@@waltchan Its hard to said which brand name much better, Toshiba first beta VCR was made by Sony. V5470B was the first machine made by Toshiba, depends on experience, the first made model always have design fault.

When I was a boy my uncle gave his to me to play with. It was a dual colour system PAL/SECAM model 5470D. I remember it had a nice slow and still feature with a slow tracking knob. Pea soup LCD clock. Also had a useless disk on top that would unscrew.

Now that is one confused video recorder lol. It seemed to go wrong in a different way every time it was operated, i was starting to think there must be a hidden mode switch that was confusing the logic. The piano keys were so annoying, blocking you or not actually latching at random times. One posessed machine :-D Hmm whitney houston, shame she o.d' ed on drugs :-(. The colour / luminance board was so nice and didn't it make a great difference :-D Black specs on the picture, the drop out detector trying it's best to fill in.

I'm editing Part 2 together now. Hope it's not giving too much away, to say that good progress is made... And the Whitney tape wasn't the best, another tape gave really good results.

PAL machines such as this one, don't have variable speeds. An L750 runs for about 3 hours 20 minutes on all PAL Beta machines. The variable speeds were only on NTSC models.

It's a GTH Electronics ACE Converter with TBC: www.gthelectronics.com/controlc.htm I have 10 of those units, the original manufacturer tells me that I have the largest collection anywhere!

hi i had to fix a akai mg14d hell the power unit need alot of work some fool plugged it in to 240 i was a 120 deck killed alot of parts 40 parts plus

I had to repair a Sanyo Beta machine which had suffered the same fate. Component list: 1 fuse. Sanyo were the best.

lucky man big time when i pop lid there was a bad copper track and put in fuse powered up ok unit worked 100% on 100v when i got it down when i un plugged in again some time later the power unit was bad lucky i pulled all the power leads to the pcb's out when it was in the rack i have tested the pcbs all are ok just the power unit died

I don't know for certain, but it looks possible. But then at 1:01:20 you can see a Whitney flag in the crowd, so it might have been one of her concerts.
