Learned a bit about sanding and polishing a case - much appreciated. The final result was really sweet, especially because the watch was $17. Good stuff.
@SkyBlue - thank you! It's funny, I don't think I would have refinish the case as aggressively had I paid more than $17. 😂 Nothing to lose! I am incredibly pleased with how this came out, and I am happy to hear that you enjoyed watching. 😁🙏
Thank you! There will be movement rebuilds in the future, but for now I'm really enjoying practicing my case revival skills. I appreciate you watching!
I absolutely love these old Citizens! Sub $20 it was a steal! I have 4 vintage ones. While watching this I decided to polish up one (a Citizen Parawater) that has a scuffed up crystal and change its bracelet to a beads of rice one that fits my 8 inch wrist. The bracelet is old I will have to sand it sometime and replate it but it looks much better! Yours on the other hand looks like a pro fixed it! That "ring" would fit Sauron! I like the thicker crystal! It adds to the aesthetic! Nearly panicked with you with the hair on the outside haha! Well done Mike! This looks amazing!
Hi Johan - thanks for all the nice comments! I'm glad I could provide entertainment while you cleaned up your Citizen Parawater! That's a cool watch. I appreciate you watching until the end...the video was so long I almost didn't include the blooper. 😁
@@WatchWithMike Its my pleasure but I should be thanking you! I learn a great deal from you every time I watch your videos as you go along. I like them as well. Many of the newer Citizen are monstrously huge and they become cumbersome as the day goes on. These one are just the right mix of size, weight, elegance and reliability that they are hard to pass up when one becomes available. The bloopers are awesome my friend! Keep them in! Hope you have a fantastic day! 😁👌
8:43 THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! I love your Video & I found an Old BWC SWISS Automatic Watch my fater used to wear 30 Years ago. I wanted to clean the Dial and Re-Lume it. You showed me now a possible way to Remove the Crown. Thank you! 9:46 WOOOOOOW.... Incredible!
I'm so glad that you found the video helpful! It's great that you have the opportunity to work on your dad's watch. It means so much more when you know the person that used to wear it. Excellent!
@@WatchWithMike Absolutely. I am all for that Personality Aspect. I got a Cheap Skmei PRX Hommage and I love the DAil, the Day Date. The Watch is Accurate but of course it has its flaws for that Price Point. But I got some Sandpaper, and smoothed some edged. Today the Watch thanked me.
@@WatchWithMike I got the Stem out. I restaurated the dail, with a mix of acrylic colors that matched the tone. Now I need to relume it, get a fitting braclett or resize the old one, and I can be worn again.
Awesome I was born that same year the watch is as old as me were probably in the same condition as well 😂 I would love to own a watch from my birthday month and year...time to do some googling
Hi Neil, that's excellent! Yes, I definitely like finding a watch that's close to my birthday. Thanks for sharing! PS, since I've already read this, feel free to edit it and remove your birthdate. 😁👍🏼
Great question! There are several numbers on the watch, other than the serial number...and none of them seem to point to a specific model. Here's what the watch says: Dial - 8200-064698 SMS Watch back - 4-164784 SMT, GN-4-W-S, 71-0081 More answer than perhaps you were hoping for, and that's probably why I didn't say the model definitively in the video! 😁
Oh you made me cringe when you use your tweesers to clean the case. Doing that may use the tips of them and you need them to pick up fine tings. You kind of kick your self in the but when you do that lol. I love the dial on that watch, it's fantastic a golden sunburst dial lovely. Check it if that finger you found inside wasn't a part of it. I'd love to see a full disassemble of that watch, giving it a full long overdue service.
@csachevauxsansabri2612 - lol, those brass tweezers are so cheap I think using them as a pick made them better! 🤣 I hope to do a full service on this watch in the upcoming months, but for now I'm really enjoying wearing it! Thanks for watching and stay tuned!
@@mokumholland5640 Winner winner chicken dinner! Bulova automatic, Citizen Eco-drive and my Apple Watch. The video was shot over a 10 day period so it was the luck of the draw. I am concerned about continuity from recording session to session, so if you'll notice I also remove my watch, especially if I'm doing something messy! For my next video, try to count how many different shirts I wear! 😂
@@WatchWithMike As an observant person I noticed the shirt thing and the “non watch” too… 😀 It’s nice to know how much time and effort you put in these videos. I never expected it would take that long!
Thank you! I've considered switching back to a steel band, but I think I want one that is the full 18 mm width. I should try to find some photos to see what this watch originally came with. Thanks for the suggestion!
The bracelet has joined by growing collection of parts for future watches! The Speidel bracelet wasn't original to the watch, and I wanted something that was a little bit thicker. I must've tried at least half a dozen different color leather bands until I settled on the brown one. (It was my wife's favorite, so that was a bonus!) 😄
I agree, and it is running FANTASTIC... without any noodling at all! I'm planning to do a complete service on the movement some time in the future, and I'm wearing the watch pretty regularly with no problems. If it aint broke... 😁
@@WatchWithMike happy to hear the happiness it gives you. In my 5 years of overhauling watches I get lots of satisfaction knowing if the time is on and what the beat error is. It did seem like it was running quite strongly but always cool to know the details. Enjoy more restorations.
Hi my citizen ladies automatic manufacture 1980 year Can not WIND Wind movement lever. missed. Please could you locate where can. I buy pl reply thanks🇺🇸😮
I suggest you look on eBay and search for the exact part, or look for a donor watch with the same movement. That's what I have been doing. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the reply . Sir that is leverer for winding. Without that winding is NOT retains. Can not wind. Hope that lever stops the. Winding as A. lock , so that. Not go back. I hope you under stand. . Any how will scratch. eBay Thanks
@@raopenumaka3977 I think the part you are referring to is called the "click". It is often accompanied by a click spring. Give that part a search and see if it is what you are looking for.
05:35 "When you attack it - I mean when you open the back!" 😂😂😂 Great video, Mike! I'm super interested in that Miyota movement because of what we discussed about that MB&F upside-down watch with the Miyota movement. Very cool that you got your "hands" on a single-direction-wind Miyota so soon after that conversation! That's what I love about this hobby! It's endlessly interesting!
Yes, watches are a never ending conversation, aren't they?! I forgot that the M.A.D. watch was based on the Miyota. Maybe a display back and a tri-blade MAD Max winding pendulum (with lume) can be retrofitted to the Citizen? 😁 I learned that the Miyota 8200 is still in production in new watches. Going on 25 years. Pretty amazing!
