I watched it alone in good clear weather with a dog (who didn’t notice) a crow (flew away before it got dark but I couldn’t say it was because of the eclipse or not) and a wild groundhog who sat outside its burrow and who didn’t notice anything until it got darker (and colder) and then put its head down a little. Since it was dark it was hard to say if it was having a little nap or nibbling plants. I think nap. The ring of light around the moon when you could take off the special glasses was magical, but very brief where I was. The noise of traffic from the road did also get quieter during the 5 min of darkness. Very good company, no one/quiet observers.

I was surprised at how dark it got. It was worth the hype. I saw one in the early 90s but this one was a lot darker. The red flames in the corona looked like red dots you’d see on an airplane. We couldn’t figure out what it was and had to look it up. We knew it wasn’t an airplane or satellite bc it was too bright + it wasn’t moving but it was so vivid it didn’t look natural.

Yeh I didn’t think it would be amazing, but it was. But next eclipse is in 2026 n also 2027. What makes today’s so special, is that it’s viewable in the US, where the others are not, until I think 2044.
