@@anthonyparenti1928 ‘old’- to put this into perspective, Rome went 600 years before its first civil war, over 2x the existence of the United States. ‘Past glory’- what past glory is there for America, the 2 wars we won because we basically sat them out while everyone else got bombed to dust? You can’t compare a carefully crafted multi millennial empire to a pop up amalgamation of elites looking for tax breaks. We Americans seem to love to compare ourselves to Rome and I guess we should do so while we can, because historians of the future won’t.
@@anthonyparenti1928 well that shows a gross misunderstanding of how history works. Collapses happen all the time there’s no need to panic, if america or even the west falls apart there will be people somewhere who will be fine.
I never quite understood who the Western Romans were fighting in this intro. I only saw Romans units, so where they fighting rebels? I assumed it was the case given the narration.
It depends who the cutscene is about. If it’s Aetius being killed by Valentinian then the forces were being sent out to face invading Germanic forces. If the timeline is closer to the beginning of the game/before major invasions then it could be Stilicho’s death by Honorius right before things went to hell. Not sure. Looks like the former to me
Probably the civil war between Eugenius and Theodosius in 394 AD (one year before the start of the game). They appear fighting each other probably Battle of the Frigidus and later, troops loyal to Eugenius are defeated and flee. The emperor who appears and receives the blessing could be Theodosius.
I think western romans suppose not to be use Tier 1 Spearmen - Comitetanses Spear and should be use Tier 3 Spearmen - Cornuti Seniores in this trailer movie
