I hope you guys find these guides helpful! I've seen some requested topics already and am chipping away at them. If you have any more things you'd like to see covered, let me know down below! Cheers!
do a video about counter charge. like hidden in the wood and waiting your enemy to charge your units as a hammer and you charge there cavalry as a hammer.
Nice guide. Could you make a video about managing your armies outside battles? I mean recruiting, swapping, types of generals, what units work best together, when to delegate, disband, things like that.
I would love to see this series continues, especially as Three Kingdoms adds many mechanics not covered in your other guide series. Diplomacy, court, satisfaction, and more. Keep the videos coming
This kind of video is really helpful for how to use an individual unit within the context of a larger army, but I really struggle with how to form up my army behind the deployment line before a field battle starts. I know it depends on the composition of my army and the enemy's army, plus the terrain, but can we get a video on how you would deploy in the most common campaign situations (e.g. balanced vs balanced, mostly ranged vs mostly cav-, mostly melee vs mostly ranged, etc.)?
Love this PE, i've struggled massively with Cav in 3K. I think my issue is the timing. I engage with my Cav too early and it messes with my battle management. Managing how the frontlines meet is tough
i like locking my formation attack on infantry they they stay in a line while attacking the enemy line then i can focus on my cav and archers better cause i know my infantry wont get all clustered together
good guide i didnt know your units could bump together on a charge helpfull since i plan to start a cao cao campaign tomorow and i want to focus on big cavalry with him
Hmm I wanna know how your troops size is that big lol would it not lag in campaign mode. And how can I make the game allow me to change a key bind to my 3rd and 4th mouse buttons so I don't have to go press alt and etc or K
Charges are really toned down in this installment, compared to the insanity of Warhammer, but they still remain key for winning i guess. Any tips on what cavalry to use where? Red vs Yellow ?
Mate, can you post your graphical settings? My 3K doesnt look like that lol. Also, how do you move the camera so smoothly & cinematicly midgame? Or are these all replays?
Does anyone think there should be “leave behind” mode for cavalry where they won’t go back if a couple of their men are caught behind? Or an auto cycle charge mode where they will automatically disengage after their charge bonus expires, run to a location far enough away to build up speed for a good charge, and then charge again?
Fajar Anugraha I can see that, I just have a way of forgetting to withdraw and recharge my cavalry lol, especially if I’m playing an army with a lot of cavalry.
Wait.. do I really need to double-click to initite a charging attack order or is that only if walk is default when clicking once? I have run by default and always only clicked once to attack, and charges seem to be made anyway.. I think.
the disengagements in this game are still driving me mad. I think it might be bugged a bit, because my cav just doesn't disengage at all, even when there's only one cavalryman being engaged, they just go back to melee. It's quite frustrating sometimes
Is this applicable to the other total war games, or do they keep changing the mechanics? I seem to remember medieval 2 had some bug where the lance charge clipped on a small wrinkle in the terrain, and stopped mid-charge while their formation broke up, so.....
Well that was a bug not intended mechanic. The lance gouge is basically the cavalry going from moving into position to their charging motion just as explained in this video.

Just to add, for the charge reflection trait of spear/polearm units to work, the unit needs to be braced (stationary and in formation) and facing the charge. Give enough time for the unit to form up (issuing a halt command right before a charge impact isn't going to work.)
Cavalry are my favorite units in total war. General units in historical are my favorite units in perhaps any total war to date. You do a great job covering the basics to the most essential unit to any successful campaign. Great work!
Can you please share a printscreen of your pc when you are in battle as I cant find the setting for which green bubbles are highlighted under the units please thankyou
I think shield wall for non-spear infantry actually makes them more vulnerable. When they get charged by shock cav from the front, they take way more damage because they are all bunched up and the more models are hit on impact.
Cavalry charges are the best. Was playing Sun Jian's campaign and Liu Biao was attacking with a full stack army and he also had Huang Zhong. It was supposed to be a "valiant defeat" with me having a little over 1730 and him with about 2100. I got behind his archers with 3 cavalry units with Sun Jian, and his army went into complete chaos. 😅
Again, a simple, clean guide. That about-face command is nice to know about, but I didn't realize that simply right clicking on the enemy unit isn't enough to charge, I need to double-click. Thank you!
