I bought a record collection recently that included some mint 80's rock and metal. It averaged out to around $5 each. Check out this first part in a short series.
When I was a kid in the early 00’s I found an abandoned truck full of 80s metal. Still have a sealed copy of that LA Guns record I found there. I can’t imagine how many great records i left behind.
Respect the (hair) classics! Great showcase Robert: I find as time goes on, I've gone from referring to some of these bands/songs as 'guilty pleasures' to 'hey, that's pretty good after all!' Well done!
Wow some killer 80’s metal records here! I remember me and my crew back in the day loved that LA Guns LP almost as much as GNR Appetite! We had a Holy Trinity of Sleaze Rock with GNR Appetite, LA Guns and Faster Pussycat! Love that Britny Fox record! Thats not an easy one to come by! Great record! One of my fave albums from that era! Even the cheesy songs! However I was not a fan of Kingdom Come I mean the fact that they were a total Zep copy was not lost on us Metalheads back then! “Kingdom Come in Your Face” LMFAO! I always ask first?!? What do you say? “May I please come in your face? LoL! Great pick up on that Decline of Western Civilization ST! That movie was amazing! So fun! Dude are you serious? That Roky Erickson track on RotLD ST is one of the best songs on there! That scene in the movie is incredible! Great pick ups Mr Fithen! ✨✌️👽✨
It was incredible to get this collection. Well yes, I mean I usually say "can" instead of "may" to keep is less formal sounding event though it's grammatically incorrect. I also don't say "please" for the risk of sounding like I'm begging. Rarely was the answer "no". You never know unless you ask! lol A lot of people are commenting that they really liked that Roky Erickson song.
The best part about Girlschool's Hit & Run is the song Take It All The Way. If that's what it is called. But I swear she's singing "We got chicken, on the way." Speaking of Freddy. Do you got his rock and roll album? I remember that album piled up in our record stores. Probably ended up being 99 cents still sealed. Been meaning to watch all 3 Decline movies. Not sure what extras are in the box set they released a couple or few uears ago. But I never seen the 3rd one. That soundtrack for #2 used to also be one of those 99 cent delete bin cassettes. Not sure where that store scored them all, but it was like there was 20 or 25 copies of everything. Another weird one was the Charles Mason tape of Lie. Speaking of Winger. I remember Beavis once caught a Stuartfish on maybe the Couch Surfing episode.
Sometime around 86 or 87 I abandoned hair metal and starting getting more into.classic rock from 60s and 70s. I liked dokken, motley crue whitesnake, keel. But by 88 I was done with that stuff. Kingdom come were zeppitators. I did like do u like it from their second album. I had both of their first cassettes back in the day. Kingdom come is still around. My coworker is in a band and recently opened up for them. I graduated high school in 89. So this certainly my era.
Oh man, you really need to look into Rocky Erickson. Definitely very different than 13th Floor Elevators, but his solo stuff is great! And as a plus for you, no electric jug! ✌️😎
Love it when you dress up for the videos haha , nuclear assault nice! I have game over LP , haha my buddies mom loves kingdom come , we all went to a record show and she picked up that same copy you showed , I haven’t listened to them but loved how you described it haha , man awesome soundtracks too radical finds!
That Cinderella album "Night Songs" reminds me of New Years Eve 1986 heading into 1987. I went to some party and the guy hosting it was like "I found this killer album. These are guys who look like girls, who sing like guys." I welcomed in 1987 hearing "Somebody Save Me". Yeah, it does not get more 80's than that!!
I remember my friends buying that cassette the day it came out. Cinderella was actually a descent band. They just got lumped in with all those hair bands. Guys in high school saw Cinderella open up for bon Jovi on the slippery when wet tour. Said Cinderella blew them away.
Some great records. I think W.A.S.P is the band Alice Cooper is referencing when he talks about a band ripping him off in Decline Of Western Civilization
Great score Robert!! I agree with all your assessments of those records, and I was a total metalhead for what it’s worth. Avoided Britney Fox for the same reason as you. The 45 Grave song was in the TV commercial for Return of the Living Dead. It was on TV all the time the month before the release. The song’s been stuck in my head since I was 14. Took me over three decades til I actually owned it and heard the full soundtrack version. Enjoyed the video! Hope you’re doing well! Cheers, Jon
That's probably where I heard the song because I only really recognize the chorus. Back in the days when I could hear a song hook a few times in a commercial and remember it for a lifetime
@@RobertFithen Return Of the Living Dead is a cult classic movie, and there were at least two sequels. Gotta love the split dogs! And my favourite line from the movie, which I always thought would have made a great band name: "Send More Paramedics".
Looking more Color Me Badd than metal (LOL) but I respect the effort. Real nice finds. I've not seen most on vinyl since the late 80s/90s. I saw Kingdom Come open up for the Monster of Rock tour. Was not a fan but they were a solid live band. Way better than Dokken who was middle on the bill. That's a great Roky song. Now you're talking crazy.
Nice score. Its crazy the money some of the 80s metal albums go for now. Candlemass is a great doom metal band. Very original like you said. They were basically the second doom metal band, the first was Trouble. I would be interested in thise Candlemass albums if you want to let them go. Cheers.
F-yeah. Killer records dude, horns up. Silly as some metal is it's fun and I find myself still listening to tons of it from that era. La Guns, enuff znuff, love hate, white Lion, tnt, kix, etc..etc...
That Nuclear Assault album is awesome. Ive been looking for their stuff for years and years. I still have my cassettes. They recently got back together and played a show in the last few years and the singer sounds exactly the same. How the in the hell he hits those notes im not sure but hes still got it. It's here on youtube. Nice finds!
The name "Sahara" appears in the lower right hand section of the album cover. The band initially wanted to call themselves "Sahara", but that name was taken by another band at the time. Though they ultimately chose the name Winger, "Sahara" remained on the cover.
Killer collection. LA Guns!!!!!! Britny Fox!!!!!!!! Cinderella rules! Girl School did some collaborations with Motörhead. Kingdom Come!!!! Their second album, In Your Face is killer too.
It's funny you show Britney Fox after Cinderella cuz BF was formed by guys who were fired from Cinderella before Night Songs, by their A&R guy!! And then Girlschool the band...to me they are the UK Runaways or like a group version of Suzi Quatro...I love em, got their great 5CD boxset anthology with a great title "School Report 1978-2008" (cheap import from Cherry Red) & killer new/recent album (also with a great title..."WTFortyFive??")...it just smokes!!
Great collection. By now you may have become aware that the Black Roses soundtrack on vinyl is a major collectible. Certainly the most desirable of all the albums you have shown in this 4 video series - though maybe not for the music. Averages around $120 USD
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day Robert also last night was my friends birthday also may the fourth be with you also happy star wars day may also congratulations ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Regarding Nuclear Assault lyrics being aimed at kids and their parents telling them what to do. I'm 49 and my 84 year old Mum she's still doing that lol. It's weird that I saw Nuclear Assault 4 times locally in England, I always presumed they were from UK because they were on line-up's with UK thrash bands every time I saw them. My friends brother auditioned as guitarist for them but didn't get in. He ended up playing with a band called D.A.M. who had some success but not the level of Nuclear Assault.
I'm record collector and an artist by trade, and I draw primarily horror and music themed stuff. I'm thinking about taking some horror movie sound tracks to my horror cons to get signed by some of the actors. I dunno. Thinking about it, though.
L.A. Guns is wonderful and their 1st record is the one. Check out "Handle With Care" by Nuclear Assault. That Britney Fox bit was funny as hell! Gotta go. Will addendum later. Cheers!
Girlschool were quite popular here in Europe. Saw them open for Motorhead, they also had a UK hit single playing with them. Their popularity started to wane when they wanted to get a more American sound ( we call it the Def Leppard "Pyromania" syndrome) and failed. They even released an album for the US market only but apparently nobody seemed to care. Their first 3 albums are all worth having (Demolition, Hit&Run, Screaming Blue Murder).
18:00 lmao as soon as he revealed that Kingdom Come's second album was called "In Your Face", I knew what the punchline to this bit was gonna be and I still started chucking before it even...came
there are great metal albuns released in the 80´s but others are...don´t even know what to call it but i started to hear more metal bands when going to see concerts from several bands i had never heard but the concerts were incredible good and the way the instruments were played was incredible, i never had seen it , i started to go to Iron Maiden tours normally the opening band was an excelent new band, after i went to Slayer concerts ,those were a real show of lights and speed playing kerry king was incredible when young and at least since late 90´s it were even better the shows and the opening acts were the best bands that apeared then, bands like paradise Lost , system of a down, sepultura, etc.
i forget to refer that Slayer told that sepulture was a copy of their style of playing and sepultura reaction to this, "we couldn´t be much happier ,it was our favorite band ,it means they heard our records "and a expression of joy was seen in their faces like children in a christmas morning and they ended up opening their concerts
My favorite Girlschool ablum is the one after "Hit and Run" which is called "Screaming Blue Murder" (1982). Definitely their heaviest record and the first one of theirs I bought
Hey Robert, it's the guy from England that told you to check out an album of Dickey Betts the day before he died! You don't need to reply but my Phillipino transgender wife that I thought was dead got back in touch and told me that she still loves me - you thought your life was nuts! I love your postings so much as you help to keep me insane. I'm not into metal at all but I loved your take on Cinderella ☺️ You mentioned Stiff Records and if I could make a suggestion, go pick up the "Live Stiffs" album and check out "Police Car"by Larry Wallis and then after that Google "To Know Him Is To Love Him" - the Phil Spector song but by Mick Farren (both of them were in a band called The Pink Fairies " but at different times). Keep safe and keep posting 🤣
The Mick Farren cover of "To Know Him Is To Love Him" was only ever released as a promo single and is extremely rare and so you will most likely have to rely on RU-vid in order to hear that one xxx
And Winger is probably the most underrated in that collection. Supremely accomplished musicians who got the short end of the stick from Mike Judge and his show Beavis and Butthead. Pull came out a year too late.
Dude u have to be kidding. They were awful. They were only popular because young girls wanted kips body. They might be good musicians, but they will never be taken seriously.
"Save the Weak" from Britny Fox reminds me of Motley Crue's "Fight for your RIghts" from Theater of Pain where they sing (badly) about race relations. Eye-rolling attempts to be taken seriously I guess? These are some great scores btw
The Scorpions 🦂 started off the 80's with the excellent Animal Magnetism ! Marissa Tomei does an excellent poledance to the title track in The Wrestler. Oddly , the song sounds like a doom metal / Alice In Chains ⛓️ combination. Not on my gift list 😒 is the Winger Boxset !
@@H-mu4bo From what I have heard, Vinnie is a very well-rounded musician capable of playing in many styles. However, he became overly focused on "shredding" in the 80s. Not that shredding is bad, just that Vinnie went a bit overboard and lost his range. I think Carmine Appice described it as Vinnie trying to "out-Yngwie Yngwie." Now I want to hear the Dan Hartman record!
Hey Robert, I don't want to sound like a smartass, but Candlemass have nothing to do with gothic rock or gothic metal. Candlemass, are the pioneers or even the inventors of the so-called Epic Doom Metal. The first four albums are essential masterpieces that everyone should hear at least once.
DOWC II is by far the best one. The first punk rock one is just depressing. I love the Germs but Darby Crash was a mess. Wish she did a Grunge one but I guess Hype was kinda filling that spot
You should listen to Kingdom Come's second album, In your face. Much better than their first. More rock and less sounding like Led Zeppelin. Check them out. ru-vid.com/group/OLAK5uy_kJBupyCrRXprUbdm1rTeQFm-3PYAypAOY
heavy score and what a deal. short story: i was working the namm show in the 90's and i got to talk to nicko mcbrain. he was real cool and took time to talk to me. at one point i put my hands on my waist and i elbowed someone but i didn't look behind me. after talking to nicko my friend said i elbowed kip winger in the gut. i was sorry but not that sorry.
The same. Decent music, but the constant Led Zeppelin mimicking is distracting. At least on the first album I'm not that familiar with later releases. I remember when in was first out, people my age were telling me I'd love it because they sound just like a band that I like. I was thinking that's not the reason I get into a band. I enjoy new bands that don't sound like anyone else.
@@RobertFithen I could not agree more, people assumed Led Zeppelin fans would eat it up, but it was the opposite for me because of how literally he just did Robert Plant it’s so blatant and beyond distracting
Hi Robert - Did you realise that Girlschool came close to a number 1 single in UK? - A collaboration 'EP' with Motorhead called the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre". Called themselves 'Headgirl' while playing together. The track that got all the radio airplay was a cover of 'Please Don't Touch' (Johnny Kidd and Pirates) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sYFwN-l46r8.html Got to about 4 or 5 on the official BBC chart, but did make no.1 on the alternative unofficial 'Network Chart' used by independent radio stations in UK at the time. The flip-side of the EP had Girlschool covering Motorhead's 'Bomber' - And Motorhead covering Girlschool's 'Emergency' I bought the vinyl EP when it was in the charts, and still have it in my collection.
I guess the statute of limitations is now up for frank admissions of pirating videos. I may or may not have had 2 vcr's for purposes of copying movies, just in case the feds come for Robert lol.
sorry but your look is more of a early 80´s breakdancer and rap singer or tellin`it how it is, not to ofend, i had a friend who was a real metal head but when older he went to the concerts with a lacoste pink pullover and a yellow burberries shirt using of course chinos from lee and sail shoes from a brand i can´t remenber ,all looked at him in the concert but he was 2 meters high very strong and a face that could scare anyone byut he liked to sing along with the songs so he could have been a metal band singer as he singed perfectelly lot´s of metal bands like Slayer, early metallica albuns , Death, and celtic frost, his favorite bands ,now something diferent he´s the only person i know that as ride the lightening in green instead of blue ,does that mean any thing ,i used to say that if he showed the record to a metal store he might have right to some award as it was the only i ever saw and not fake
Some of latter period hair metal bands were just atrocious. Trixter, warrant, winger, white lion, slaughter firehouse, danger danger ,stryper even poison. Most of them that came out after 86 were just gawd awful. It started out cool. Bands like ratt fastway, dokken triumph krokus,y@T. I even liked motley crue at first. Same with bon Jovi. Then it just came 110% cheese fest. They all had the same formula and of course a power ballad. Then around 1991 the title wave came and just washed all those bands right off the planet. The beginning of grunge. Even established bands like maiden and priest broke up or their singers left. Same with motley crue.
@RobertFithen I only liked def leppards first 3 albums. I liked whitesnakes early albums up until slide it in. I liked the 87 album at first, but overplayed. I wasn't a fan of 80s non make up KISS. Even Aerosmith cheesed out after permanent vacation. Alice cooper's mid to late 80s albums were awful. I wasn't a fan a fan of the turbo album by judas priest.
Im sure the metal records were probably in the collections of my whole High School class. There were three of us who were more into punk and hardcore. But i did like Iron Maiden. Ill laugh hysterically if Helloween or Lizzie Borden pop up.
@@RobertFithen Still not a grade you should use on second hand records. Mint records are often rumored but rarely seen, Mint should never be used as a grade unless more than one person agrees that the record or sleeve truly is in this condition. Use Near mint instead. A good description of a NM record is “it looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the first time.” In other words, it’s nearly perfect. Many dealers won’t use a grade higher than this, implying (perhaps correctly) that no record or sleeve is ever truly perfect. My point here is just stop using the term Mint. Because these records really does not exist. Specially when buying them used. You could perhaps get away and use the term mint on a sealed record. But you truly dont know do you. It could be warped.
I'm not some newbie, have graded records for decades and know what I'm talking about. As I said in the video, I rarely use the term mint. Why are you arguing?
@@RobertFithen Just pointing out that the term mint when it comes to records are often wrong. If the record is even played once it is not mint anymore. So the term should really not be used at all. At least not for used records. Not arguing. Just pointing out a fact. I know you have been collecting for decades. I watch your channel 🙂, Thats why you should really know this. And maybe even educate your followers. The grade is being misused by resellers all the time.
