That wah, and Lukather's vibrato takes this solo to the next level. His sense of melody, phrasing, timing and dynamics stand alone. Young shredders just don't understand this stuff. This is musicality.....
He simply knows the magic of tension and release. He knows when to let the thing cry, when to make it shut up. Lastly, he is using the instrument to both back up the song and then pouring his take on life over it. It is not about what he plays. It is about what he transcends. He is magical.
True, but dont forget the man who made toto a succesfull with such good drumming and because of this man, toto couldnt existid . A man who aways light up a room and has so much confidence in his style of drumming. A legend called jeff porcaro. Thats why im more fan of of that legend that made toto real. I think simon is more a rock drummer and that jeff an all-style-drummer
When music is so important in your life this is like filling a room with angels. The whole band knows they are in the pocket and they are riding on it like champs. Lukather playing here is stellar. Simply magical. When you see the glimpses of his band members and their facial expressions you can tell that they are in awe of Lukather and are simply enjoying his great playing and singing.
In 2013 i visited a concert in Berlin. I Was fresh dirvorced. It was a hard time. I nearly lost my son. I waited at the entrance with a friend at Huxleys New World in Berlin and talked to him. I just sayed for fun to him "The guys from Toto could play wings of time." So we went in. The concert starts. Very great. After a few songst Luke said, he would dedicate this Song to Mike and Jeff. And He would dedicate it to those people at the concert, who are in a not so good way of life. Who are sick, in a divorce or anything else what makes life not so good. And he will dedicate this Song to those people who are also on this concert. And He wishes, that the problems would take away on the wings of time... Then they played the song ...Tears are running down my face... One of the greatest moments in my live...
Hello Matthias, A very touching experience you had. Beautiful to read and so approriate to the song... I can imagine that moment, wonderful... I wish you all the best of luck! André
It was really touching experience..I understand you...I had the same feeling when some years ago Paul McCartney dedicaded an incredible version of "Something" to the memory of George Harrison during his concert..I was in tears because I remembered someone I had lost...what memories.. About Toto, great band..and this is a great song.
Rockband... I don't know. This band is so hard putting in one particular booth... Its a loot of rockbands that is out of this world, but not one of them can match Toto in deversity and musicality (Pink Floyd did much of the same, in their time). There is so much talk about "worlds greatest", but in my world a unike musician like Luke cant be compared to anyone. The guitar-gunners out there play some fantastic sololiners, but Luke is so so much more than a solo- performer, the man is in my opinion the most complete guitarplayer the world have ever seen. The way he comps just forms every other part of the band. The strange thing is that the other instruments in the band does the exact same thing to his play. Of course Luke is just one of the Toto members. I could go on and on and on about the other members....
ToTo You guys are Essential ..Love everything they have done each decade.. Steve Lukather is simply Amazing.. But the whole band during the Porcaro Jeff included of course were outstanding! Simon Phillips did an amazing job too in their long, successful career!! ToTo's grreatness Lives Forever
The outrosolo is insane!! Luke is on fire. His feel and sense of phrasing, timing makes him the next level musician. Great groove from Nathan East and Simon Philips. Best band of all times
Una delle scelte migliori fatte da Jeff è stata proprio quella del chitarrista dei Toto nel lontano 1976: a mio parere il miglior chitarrista del genere rock eclettico in assoluto.
This is the first time I've ever heard this song and... Wow. What a jam. Never knew the lead singer and guitar player of Toto was that good. Excellent song
@@jackbeam56 Luke is singing lead on this song. Toto is a band with multiple lead singers that’s what they wanted. Joe just happens to be the front man.
Aside from the fact Toto has always been a band of great artists. I would bet, Steve Vai, Satriani, E. Johnson, etc, etc, can listen to Steve's solo on this, and simply say, "yeah man, absolutely".
Ditto my friend - they are simply in a class of their own - decades of phenomenal musical talent we are all so lucky to enjoy - have all their live DVD performances and live them often on Dolby surround sound - forking brilliant
I really think he should be in the Top 10 but the last chart I saw he was like 52! that's just crazy because he is incredible! I saw an interview one time where he said he was glad the band thing worked out because he didn't know how to do any thing. LOL O yeah just one of the best in guitar and vocals any where! I am kind of a big Luke fan.
This is so so so good, man...the soul which Steve puts in to it and that constant rythm from Simon, so so perfect, and in the end the look on the face from Steve to Simon, says it all...impecable . Simon is such a soulfull drummer, the tranquility in his drumming is one of a kind.
What makes Luke cool is he has all the old blues influences, the cool jazz influences backed with his own style and can shred on top of that. Not to mention great feel and tone. He's not a guy who shreds and then plays something slower to portray he has feeling.he actually feels everything he plays.Fast or slow. Plus he comes across as a regular guy.
Let us all take a moment and pay our love and respect to the memory of the man, the myth and the legend we knew as Jeff Porcaro. 29 years ago, August 5th, 1992 Jeff left us all and at such a young age. Rest in peace Jeff. Your groove will live on forever
Although relatively simple, the patient and perfect subtlety of Nathan East's bass playing is awe-inspiring. Of course, Lukather is something else. So much enjoyment from listening to this piece. Thank you.
I lost my dad 5 months ago. I miss him so much and this song helps me grieve in peace. When you love someone so much, not even death can take that away from you.
Miss you my friend. Your dad would live in your heart forever just like mine. It's a little things you will you will remember. All the kindness that he gave you.
Such greatness. Simon and Nathan are so wonderful. Steve Lukather stands tall among the giants.. both as a recording genius and a live performer. One of the reasons is is risk-taking.. which is demonstrated well here.
And you KNOW it's just right there! Like... that tear starts to well, but he's like "Can't! Must. Hold. Back!" Heh heh. He JUST Tweeted how he misses Jeff! So, we got you, Luke. We know!
What a song I have got all Toto Albums. If you compare the track on the LP and this live version, the latter is sheer perfection. Thank you Toto for having lavished on us the best music in the entire planet! Simply magic track! Thank you Steve for your amazing guitar solos!!!!
Oh mein Gott, ich habe das jetzt fünf mal gesehen. Und ich musste wirklich heulen, kein Song hat mich so umgehauen wie der. Aber das habe ich schon mal geschrieben....
I love this song so much, I have started watching this video every Sunday night at the end of my work shift to help me relax and keep it playing in my mind all week. Steve is just incredible--- love his voice!
Me too. When Steve sings "Georgy Porgy" from year 1990 concert with the bongos playing in background, his voice and guitar work was perfect! I really like his interpretation of music and the creativity he uses with the guitar. One of the best bands I have ever heard. Have revisited Toto in the last few months and a new appreciation for the quality and artistry of their music has brought love and much respect. 🎶🎹🎸🥁💟💓💓👏👏
Truly amazing unbelievable group of musicians. Never seen and never will see or hear a bad toto line up. As long as Lukes alive this band will hopefully remain. Seen a few negative comments on the new project but gotta say as good as anything but this song is so so special. Like is amazing as are every member that has ever graced a toto stage.
Une brochette de musiciens hors pair,je les ai vu pas mal de fois et je ne m'en lasse pas.De saint-George à aujourd'hui,et ce morceau me donne des frissons .
