I am not surprised by anything that Mercedes does after allowing the 2021 theft of Lewis 8th world titles. Toto and Mercedes will learn that Lewis is a well loved and respected person. I always wondered why toto did not move forward with the appeal for 2021 because had that been horner he would have exhausted every Avenue he could.

If i was Toto the best way after Hamiltons Ferrari contract and lure Verstappen into a Mercedes contract is to show that Mercedes is still capable of winning. The best way to achieve that is to get behind Lewis and work towards a common goal.

and if Mercedes fails at this "lawsuit" they will get sued for contract interference, defamation of character (SLH) and libel (Ferrari). As long as the court is just, the reparation will bankrupt the Mercedes F1 team and seriously hamper Mercedes the manufacturer. Mercedes and Toto really took Hamilton's move to Ferrari personally. Sabotaging your own driver means lowering his chances of getting higher into the point standings. That's bad for the Constructor's championship standing if not the title itself. Why would they do that? IF anything, the lower your team is in the Championship standings by the end of the season, you get some benefits under the current sporting regulations... Like having more wind tunnel allocation. That's one realistic reason. Secondly, Ferrari-Hamilton will be a competitor for certain in 2025. Best to destroy him psychologically before he can even start driving the Red team's car.

Ever since 2016 Merx have shown their antipathy towards Hamilton. It could never have been Wolff on his own. And it never was. James Vowles an avowed Schumacher loyalist has played his part. Many examples but Monza 2021 warrants close examination. The strategic decision to keep Hamilton out an extra lap, after the BrakeTester (Verstappen) had an 11 sec pit stop, lost the advantage. Lando (who had just been passed by Hamilton) did the no-brainer and did pit, and so took the obvious advantage of the BrakeTester's long pit stop. The decision by Vowles (AGAIN) to leave Hamilton out too long, resulted in Hamilton exiting the pits just as the BrakeTester approached, nearly resulting in Hamilton being decapitated, if not for the Halo! It would not surprise me that on pace alone, Russell, the Wolff Cub, would be capable of beating all the drivers on the present grid as teammates, except Hamilton, who is THE class of the field, even now after his dealings with Covid. I believe Russell is fast, possibly the second fastest after Hamilton, and that he could to be unaware of the Merx's spannering of Hamilton. Russell might believe that his qualifying and points total against Hamilton are merited, with only that nagging doubt, souring, in the back of his mind, that his current head to head, is as fake as the BrakeTesters 2021 title against the 8 x FIA Rules F1 Champion, Hamilton.
