As a Spurs fan for over 30 years. Levy gets my respect. He has made Spurs the club they are today. Spurs are seen as a big club despite not winning titles. Yes of course as a fan it would be good to see the club I support winning titles but I understand reality and Spurs are in one of the most combative league in the world. Levy has done what he said he was going to do with Spurs. Good to see him speaking up and showcasing he is a person a fan of the club.

@@javedAbbas6677 Look up a dictionary. Big club meaning they are literally by definition a big club. They have a state of the art stadium and their ex-captain is the England captain...they are one of the big teams in the premier league. Even looking at their fanbase, a big club can be described as any club with a very large following which spurs undoubtable have. They have a reputation of bottling things and not winning things but that doesn't describe a big club, that describes a successful club. To different things. So maybe read a book sometime.

Gotta say I was more than a bit surprised to see that Levy had done this interview with Bloomberg. It was interesting. To my mind, its about marketing the club and stadium. He's now focusing on the business side of things while Scott Munn is responsible for football activities. Hoping Ange can create a very successful football team that wins things - and plays attractive football.

As he said, we are a self sustaining club so the only way to compete for the best players is through creating revenue. I think a happy place for us is to let Daniel focus on that side of things and let people like Scott Munn focus on the football side of things.

Love the last quote from Levy - "ofcourse winning, but winning with style" :-) Always been the spurs way, and so happy that the core motto "Dare is to Do" is back at the hearth of the club again 🙂

I’m a relatively new Spurs fan but from what I’ve understood over the past few years, owning a team doesn’t really seem lucrative anymore in terms of getting a return on the investment. Players are going to start costing 100 million on the regular and unless you’re a billionaire like Todd Boehly or a Saudi investor, I don’t really know who else would still want to own a club. I respect how diversified the income streams have become for the club, with the new stadium, commercial partnerships, and such, and although fans slag Levy off for “not focusing on the football enough,” there’s really no way we can compete without securing our future through other methods of income aside from football. I understand that being successful on the pitch will ultimately grow the club revenue further, but there’s no harm in trying to excel in the business / commercial bit of football as well. What I wish was that Levy was more visible over the past few years and owned up to the mistakes sooner. I think he got a bit lucky with Ange (a lot of people didn’t think Ange was “good enough” or a marquee signing) but I think this is the best I’ve felt about the club since the Champions League run.

For all the Levy haters I ask you to buy the Spurs biography by Julie Welch. It details the dire straits of the club, actually close to bankruptcy, when ENIC bought the club. Now the 9th richest club in the world with a growing fan base. Mistakes have been made by the board, but other clubs success like Chelsea and Man City was bought rather than earned. I hope UEFA are serious about FFP because we are now in a position to compete aggresively on a self-sufficient basis.
@GabbyDario
@GabbyDario 11 месяцев назад
I agree completely. I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to run a club if you’re not Boehly or an oil billionaire. Football is an entirely different ballgame and while there are no proper spending regulations in place yet that will avoid the player market increasing to 200 million pounds per player, Spurs are doing what they need to do to stay alive.

This is clearly Levy marketing the club for external investment. It would make sense, given Joe Lewis had to sign his 70% share of the club into a family trust it wouldn’t be surprising if Levy was looking for buyers. Levy owns about 30% of the club. Likely he wants to retain his 30% whilst finding suitors who will take on Joe Lewis’s equity. It all seems pretty clear that’s his goal when you breakdown what he says in the interview - Specifics on additional revenues that are unique to Spurs like the concerts and NFL - Highlighting Spurs are best places to beat FFP rules if they had more ability to spend - Explaining it would be twice as expensive to copy Spurs and build a new stadium now than when he did it. Along with highlighting how hard it was. - Explains the long term loans we have are at low interest rates that aren’t achievable anymore. It’s a marketing play ‘Come check us out, we are open to offers’

Daniel Levy has the worst trophy per season percentage stats of any THFC chairman since World War Two. A statistical fact! That's the true reality of what Daniel Levy has achieved as an on the pitch football chairman. His biggest local rivals Arsenal lead Tottenham Hotspur 16 trophies to 1. Arsenal have won 8 FA Cups, 8 Community Shields, and 2 Premier League titles to Tottenham's 1 League Cup during the ENIC era. The Arsenal fans have celebrated 16 victories at Wembley to Tottenham's 1 time during this period. This is the true on the pitch factual reality of Daniel Levy and ENIC HOTSPUR...

I think this interview has changed my opinion of Levy somewhat. The very fact that he has owned his mistakes, ie. Mourinho who I never saw as a good fit, and Conte who, let's be honest, was disappointing both in team style and his own commentary, is a big mark in the plus column for me.

Smells like strategic communication for the naming rights.. “the stadium would now cost 2 billion to build” and “we don’t need to sell the naming rights since we now realised we are building a global brand name for Tottenham thanks to the stadium”. In other words, if any of the Google, Nike etc. comes back for the stadium, the price may have doubled. This Chairman deserves a lot of respect.

Poch ticked all the boxes of what he says he wants, he just didn't back him. I knew Mourinho and Conte werent right for the club and would lead to years of frustration and turmoil, but he made a decision based on success on paper instead of understanding how perfect poch was for the club which was outrageous considering everything poch had done, and then learnt the hard way that it was wrong. It wasted years of Harry Kane's career, one of, if not the best player we've ever had, as i knew it would. Poch may have brought success in these wasted 4-5 years. However, now we have Ange which could be his saving grace.

The Club? A Corporation which specializes in Sports& Entertainment in it's brand new events centre! And our last F.A Cup win was in 1991( aswell as the Charity Shield) And prior to that it was in 1981& again 1982..And League Cup wins in 1998 and again in 2008..Hardly overwhelming for a big Club aka Corporation! But i suppose we have differing standards and wants& i w/b a lot happier if some new owners came along &totally restructured,bringing in new staff( in many areas) because there's such self satisfaction with limited aspirations& a exceptance of mediocrity which has existed for a very long time!
