While I haven't seen many people with Toucans, those that I have had purred like this. So yes, this is happy. Angry is a wide open mouth and an outraged squak.

You're right in that, their mates are the ones who do their necks for them because they're not bendy enough themselves - but putting a hand over an animals head like that is asking for a bite, and if they're angry you a looking at an upgraded Tokay Gecko that can fly. In fact that noise it's making is very similar to angry Tokay (their ground state of being, although they do share their trees with baby Komodo dragons) noise. They'll bite your finger and happily hold on for the rest of the day..

With the pet trade i wish people had an easy way to know if the animal is captive bred or wild caught. If people could restrict themselves to captive bred animals. That would do something to reduce pressure on wild populations but habitat loss is by far the biggest threat to their survival

I’ve seen this video before on another channel and there they did not put this assumption in the title of the video. I also find it interesting he stops making this sound once he starts enjoying the scratches (i think the slow closing of the eyes is a good indicator of that). So yes, I agree it’s probably a “don touch me” sound lol

That’s the tricky thing with animals is that their emotions don’t always match up with how we see emotions. It’s like when you look at an eagle it looks “angry” all the time. But that’s literally just how its face is shaped

I think some people have tucans as pets? Im not sure the laws on it. It might be only certain countries that allow it. The good thing is tocans arent to big so space wise at least they arent cramped up, dunno about other issues tho
