I recently had my solo anniversary. So to commemorate it, I decided to do 3 touch and go's, just like I did on my solo. AAAAnd, I thought I'd bring you guys along for raw uncut flight video.
This is going to be a full length flight from start up to shut down, which is going to seem boring for some of you. So, I move between different camera angles to try and keep things interesting. So, I guess it's not really uncut… But everything is in real time.
The reason I'm making this is because I wanted you guys to see what it's like to fly where I fly and let you get a sense of what a full length flight is actually like. Just know that when you're in the plane, it's a lot more exciting. Now this video isn't to train you in any way, but You can still learn a lot by watching, or at least listening.
Things may seem a little busy in the video, but it was actually quite calm from a normal day. BUT, there are still lots of planes around.

Hopefully you guys found some enjoyment out of the longest video I've ever made. I know it's somewhat boring, but there's a lot to learn from. It's kind of hard for me to release this knowing that my piloting skills will probably be critiqued and scrutinized by all. But, someone decided I was competent enough to fly, so why not. Let me know if you have any questions and what you think! Thanks!

Are you leaning your engine to max power at 7:28?
@par5eagles975
@par5eagles975 4 года назад
Doesn't that put you right in the middle of the Red Box? That's a major no-no at 1500' MSL... horribly abusive to the engine with decreased detonation margins, a peak pressure point closer to top dead center, and increased CHTs. Full rich for takeoff! Unless you are at KSEZ or higher. As an "influencer" with 40K subs, you need to be careful- others will copy your technique. You know Martin Pauly, he is an expert on engine operation, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a conversation with him about proper leaning procedures.
@flywiththeguys
@flywiththeguys 4 года назад
@@par5eagles975 Just saw your comment. First, THANK YOU! Yes. I was leaning for Max Power, and honestly this isn't something that I wasn't taught to do all the time. I spend a lot of time in the high country of Arizona and I fly in the heat. Because of both of those, it became a habit. No ones told me otherwise until now. I now know what the Red Box, or Red Fin, means and I also chatted with Martin about it to get some more detail. I even checked my POH which says mixture rich below 3000 MSL. But it didn't talk about density altitude, which is one of the reasons I work the mixture prior to take off. So I checked some other sources and found I should be taking density altitude into consideration. AND, I've never really thought about myself as one, but you're right about the "influencer" thing. I don't to mislead anyone so I went ahead and removed that section from the video. Not in an effort to cover up my mistake, but to help others who want to copy my techniques. Plus I'll leave our discussion here because even I found it beneficial. Again, thank you. I love to learn and try to become a better pilot every day.

Fly With The Guys I thought you did very well. Good radio talk. I was a bit apprehensive that you were going to use some flaps for one of the higher approaches; with the traffic, I’d have kept my speed up and slowed closer to the threshold. (I didn’t want anyone plowing into you.) I enjoyed the video!

Nice job Clark. I’d fly with you 😀. Great job clearing your prop area before engine start. 95 out of 100 pilots yell “clear prop” as they simultaneously engage the starter converting an important pre-start safety procedure into a useless verbal exercise. Fly safe. See you soon.
@flywiththeguys
@flywiththeguys 4 года назад
Thanks for that, and being willing to fly with me. =) I learned to say clear prop and check left and right from another pilot. It's good to not only yell, but double check and give people time to clear the area if need be.
