Touhou Character Abilities Showcase | Episode 11 | Futo 

Here is the next Ability Showcase, featuring everyone's favorite taoist, Futo. I recall a comment from one of the earlier showcases where they wondered what I would do with Futo's Feng Shui ability. I'm not too familiar with this concept but I know it has something to do with the environment. But this is Futo we're talking about and I figured she would have a weird and funny way of handling the power of the environment. Not to mention, I read somewhere that Zun said Futo merely calls her power "Feng Shui" but it could be something complete different. Don't know what source I found that from, but I feel it just works perfectly for her. I also had one more joke that I thought of after this video was made. It's a shame I couldn't add it to the video since it was completed by the time I thought of it, but I figure there will be more videos featuring Futo, so plenty of opportunities to use it then. This video also showcases the new lip sync. The big difference from the previous method is more mouth shapes, particularly the "Oh" and Ooh" mouth shapes, which is just circles in this video. I couldn't figure out what to draw for those shapes so I went with the easiest ones. It kind of works but clearly we can do better. Now that I have exhausted every possible way to add lip sync with free software, the next task is to experiment with the mouth shapes themselves. The other subtle change is a more accurate lip sync. Though not but much but I feel the lip sync with this method is an improvement. It's not perfect as there are instances where the lip sync is kind of off, but I'm at a point where I'll need to manually adjust these flubs. Since the idea of adding lip sync is that I found an automated method to actually have them, I don't think I will go any further than this since these funny videos are meant to be made quickly. Futo is apparently able to manipulate feng shui. This ability is mentioned in Symposium of Post-mysticism, where it is said that it's a power Futo aquired before studying Taoism and that due to the similarities in terms of worshipping nature, it's something almost identical to Shinto. Feng shui is the flow of qi, particularly the flow of qi according to the environment. To manipulate feng shui is to apply some treatment to the surrounding environment and artificially change the flow of qi and it is something that manipulates fate and fortune. Although it has a high effect on fixed things like towns and houses, its effect is thin on things that busily move, like people and animals. In terms of practical applications, Futo seems able to manipulate dragon veins to change the nearby ground, controlling fire, wind, and water,and even lowering the amount of fortune in a determinated area.

Futo is from the Asuka period, but she has that charisma and energy that gives her the impression that she would transition to the modern world nicely, even if she would still remain in her traditional ways. That's what makes her so lovable.
