I love how this boss fight uses game mechanics that were introduced during all the game, like the green projectiles or the water column that freeze during time stop
And the neat thing about the water column is that she already does that in other Tohou games anyway but it just happens to complement the time stop mechanics of this game.
Man, this fight. Fun, fast and fairly challenging without going nuts. I particularly like how instead of having a super attack like Meiling's Last Stand or Marisa's Master Spark, Patchy just buffs all her normal attacks. Great fight with awesome music.
And how you won't need anything else than time stop on the leaves to play with her normally - Meiling requires either time stop(or a crazy timing to jump through that at the right time) and Marisa requires snail time to see when the Master Spiral won't hit you.
I recently found that with good timing, you can abuse her water attack for a massive graze-induced boost to your health and MP if you're flagging a bit. Also, Snail Time is incredibly useful for her spear rain attack, even if it isn't required.
I was thinking. What if actually, by the start of the confrontation, she was going with HALF of the attacks, and you're witnessing the full scale of them all afterwards?
Well, it's only natural for someone's attacks to ramp up as they're hurt. A cornered foe is always the most dangerous. Either that or Patchy just wanted to ease Sakuya into the fight.
Honestly, this fight can be easily cheesed with Chainsaw and 1000 Knifes plus Time stop.Even with the buff as long as you graze health and mp during her water Phase ,Getting hit won’t be a big deal... But yeah I. Agree with you.Its fun to fight her.Unlike Meiling or Marisa, she’s more fun than tedious. Her attacks are easy to understand, but hard to execute.Especially that Lunar sword phase, it looks impossible to dodge. But you can graze easily with knife slides. All the phases have their learning curves: Fire? Let it fall aim at you and then dodge. Dragon? (don’t know what element she’s casting with this) Just jump. Electric/Earth? Back away! It’s easy to understand how to dodge them. But words express things differently than actions. My personal Favorites are the Lunar Sword rain phase,The water Phase and the Wood(Leave Bullets) Phase especially. I like how the leaves punish you either way,for using Time Dialation or for not using it.The leaves stay there waiting for you,or they move when everything else comes to a halt. I wished she used something like Silent Selena or Royal Flare. But Either way,I’m glad my favorite character’s boss fight is fun.
This boss requires you to think about how you use your powers more than you usually would. I remember stopping time and getting held up by the water splashing around, and while the green spears weren't hard to avoid, they certainly added a fun challenge to the fight. Something I should come to expect from a boss fight with a magical librarian!
I have never once lost to Patche in Touhou Luna Nights. And I personally enjoy the fight a lot! It isn't necessarily a difficult challenge, instead being a fun challenge for both parties involved.
When I played the original game 7 years ago, she is my biggest challenge, I had experience hearing this during my sleep time( this part 3:36) Well after all, I love this bgm
Patchy (in this game cause it’s the only Touhou game I’ve played at the time of writing this) was like one of the few bosses (in a fairly difficult game) that I beat first try (then again she states she has asthma and as someone who also is asthmatic, I know it’s hard to do your best when you can lose literally all your oxygen because you went on a brisk jog)
Kinda a spoiler: She is extremely hard in EoSD as any stage 4 boss, and imo,I have more difficulty in stage 4 than any other (never tried extra), but I only played EoSD and IN from the main series though
The stop time makes most fights in this game so easy sadly. Spamming stop->thousand daggers shreds everyone. I am pretty bad at this game but this combo creates an easy modo
@@WiteXRansimply not abuse thousand daggers or chainsaws. It's what I did on my first playthrough and I had a blast getting my ass kicked... 10/10 experience, would get rekt again
I dunno if it was just me, but the prominent beat starting at 1:16 helped me avoid a specific attack pattern, since I would just tap left/right to the beat and the projectiles would just barely miss me, lol
I can't wait to do Patche's boss fight on my no death, no boss time stop/slow run. *:3* She's gonna be the most fun. While Remilia is gonna just. Be the most pain if I mess up.
Record through Xbox that is. I played the game too much and than Uninstalled it. I was trying to beat the bosses using only certain spell cards and got too bored. However. New game was released by Team Ladybug that's fun af; I'd try it
Surprisingly, an easy boss for a Touhou game. ...then again, it's where you get Thousand Daggers, so, it's just a sign of how the bosses get a lot easier if you use that at the right times. Those solid 4 or so seconds of i-frames, just unbelievably useful.
@@scarlet7960you can just map time stop and snail time to buttons you’re never gonna use. Until you need them, then re-map it back to buttons you’re never gonna use after you’re done with the parts you need them on
My favorite boss in the entire game. I've learned _most_ of Patchy's moves, but the water is easily my favorite. By spamming slides back and forth with good timing, you can repeatedly graze the bullets she sends at you and regain most of your time and health just from that alone.
This boss battle was knowledgeable and fun because i forgot i had other skills or items and those green projectiles moving in stopped time or how water solidifies during time stop i had to use wits
If you want to: Snail time and time stop are your best friends If not: You can juke her by sliding under her, then slide the other way, at the right time, kinda hard to describe. Or going to the edge and perfectly (or well enough) timing a double jump into down airs Edit: I may have misunderstood what the no time stop/no snail time/ no thousand knives runner did for the second one, I struggled too much with it, so I did the first one. No time stops or snail times for me!
Oddly enough, Patchouli was the only boss I beat in 3 or 2 lives. She was quite easy considering it took me longer to beat Remilia than any other boss in the game. (INCLUDING Reimu)
im still surprised that i killed this boss first try cause halfway through i thought i was going to die but then i tried grazing and good lord that was helpful.
@@usagibnuuy2070 Doesn't mean it couldn't benefit from being hard or at least having a mode that is. I disagree anyway because I doubt the other bosses were designed with ease in mind considering most of their attacks are bullet hell.
