Tour A Fully Renovated Bungalow

When a young family moved into this bungalow, they wanted to maintain the home’s 1950s charm, while opening up the space with modern elements. See how designer Lisa Kooistra transformed the main living area into an open-concept haven with vaulted ceilings, sliding doors and a neutral palette. To maximize space, a walk-in pantry with access to the backyard doubles as a servery when the homeowners entertain. The luxe principal bedroom features a fireplace, walk-in closet and ensuite, while three children’s bedrooms face the backyard’s lush greenery.

Gorgeous, tasteful, clean and simple. Please remember that these spaces are designed to fit the client's requirements. This is obviously what the clients wanted and it is beautifully executed.

It's a lovely home and beautifully designed, although it doesn't fit with what is typically referred to as mid-century modern from the 1950s era. It would have been nice to include a photo of the exterior after it was redone.

a lot of people are complaining about the neutral palette, but if you listened to what she said the homeowner is a naturopath, so I'm guessing a peaceful, neutral Palette is what she desires. I thought the whole home is beautiful and serene. serene. it's all in what you desire
@waugse
@waugse Год назад
I think the complaint stems from the designer claiming this is a Mid Century aesthetic when Mid Century by definition was an era of very vibrant and warm colours in interior design. Nothing wrong with a neutral palette, but it ought to be called Scandinavian or Japandi in order for a correct use of terminology.

Beautiful well appointed , cohesive design, but I have to say, the size of their bungalow is palatial compared to the standard-sized three bedroom home I grew up in back in the 7's. I'd love to see a tour of a home that's modest and isn't decorated by someone who has deep pockets.

Beautifully designed house. I am curious though about whether some homes are specifically staged for the purposes of H&H videos? It would be lovely to see more tours of what the homes look like in their "natural" state (i.e., clean and organized, but with children's bedrooms that look like rooms for children). For example, I LOVED the tour of Mandy Milks' Victorian rowhome tour from H&H. It would help distinguish the homes from one another since no two family is alike.
@GH-jh7dz

H&H is a Canadian Magazine so the homes are styled/cleaned up to be photographed for the magazine and videos. Most of the homes in the magazine end up looking this way ie clean and unlived in.

I'm curious about a difference I've noticed between Canadian and American terminology. Homes such as this one, that are described as bungalows in Canada, are what we would call ranches or ranch style in the US, and are mostly post-WW2 and mid century. Homes that we call bungalows are generally more Craftsman style and mostly pre-WW2.
@nancyneyedly4587
@nancyneyedly4587 Год назад
Yeah, Canada Bungalow usually means one level/story house in Canada. May have an in ground basement. I'm Canadian and I prefer Rancher, I've hear it used here too. Perhaps we just started using the terminology wrong and it caught on, so now abungalow is a rancher is a bungalow.

Predictable and void of colour. Which I guess has been the preferred aesthetic for many, and is ultimately the homeowner’s choice. But in no way is the house representative of mid century modern! I’m not sure if the designer missed the assignment here or the homeowners wanted their own version of mid century.

I really am tired of seeing these beautifully designed homes with absolutely no representation of the families who live there. There is no ‘character’ to these homes although it is very obvious that these designers have real talent. I love the British and European design/decorating ethos of owner personality showcasing loved and treasured items gracing each home on top of good design.

How is anything Mid-Century here? It's all so cold and sterile. Since the client like natural elements, they could have used more wood or stone. The kitchen counter top looks like quartz and that is from natural. Even if I am staging a house, it should have some personality. Use petrified wood, paint a wall different color, use beams, wallpaper the ceiling, for the love of God please use color!

This pattern is commonly heard in my country - from politicians to newsreaders to farmers and teachers. So we're mostly used to hearing it, and our auditory senses are not generally disturbed. There are some here though who do publicly decry the awfulness of "up-talking".😁
