Come with us as we take you inside some of the most famous historic homes and gardens in the famous Holy City of Charleston, South Carolina! Join us as we walk graveyards, take ghost tours and study preservation and restoration up close.
This historic city and home tour will give you excellent examples of the difference between restoration and preservation, as well as stunning views of Georgian and Federal interiors. Those of you who believe that historic woodwork was never painted, and that historic homes were dark and dreary, be prepared to be surprised by the truth. Find yourself surrounded by ochre yellows, bright aqua blues created with copper alloy, and citron colored walls. Woodwork is highlighted with lead white, cream, grey and polychrome to pull out the details.
You'll learn the difference between applied plaster work and in situ carved plaster, you'll see trompe l'oeil ceiling medallions beautifully restored to their 18th century glory.
Join is as we tour Drayton Hall, Magnolia, and Middleton Place plantations. We hope you'll enjoy strolling the streets of one of the oldest cities in the United States with us!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit. The Aiken-Rhett house is my all time favorites. Everytime I visit I see something different. I especially love the ballroom, I just stand and try to imagine all the wonderful social events held there. My youngest daughter and I actually attended the military funeral held for the men that were in the Hunley. It was amazing of course everyone and everything was historically correct down to the wool uniforms. Imagine that in Charleston heat! Middleton plantation is very beautiful, I was a docent there for about give years in the stable yard. I really miss those animals. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas.

My husband and I are currently stationed here and have been blessed to be here for about 7 years now. The estate sales are extra special being able to walk around historic houses. Charleston was the richest city in the colonies because up north everything came in to ports, But Charleston and the south were exporters. Economics 101. Times may change but economics doesn’t. Women from rich families in Charleston wore the most up-to-date fashions from Paris and London. Many rich families sent their children back to Europe to be educated.

@@emilee3151 are there any nearby towns that are cheap?
@emilee3151
@emilee3151 2 года назад
@@StallionFernando Not really nearby. The massive amounts of development here have ruined all the surrounding small towns and they’re bad now too. People are coming here in droves, mostly from up north (can’t say I blame them), but it’s definitely making it hard on the locals. You’ve really got to go at least and hour away to get any cheaper.

Bummer history will be altered by “office buildings”. Would have been cool if someone had purchased to restore. I’m sure it would have been a cool place to tour….especially people who ghost hunt. Thanks for the video!! I’ve always wanted to head to Charleston. My Dad was stationed there in the Navy. My parents made friends with another couple who were civilian workers at the base. My Dad will be 81 & although Wade has passed they still stop & visit Martha on their way to FL from Ohio in the fall & back again in the Spring.

Beautiful structures all! Quick question: in the Manigault house, several rooms had long fabric strips on either side of the fireplaces. Do these serve a practical purpose or are they simply decorative? My mind went immediately to old Hollywood movies and the long bell pulls to summon servants in manor homes.
