A video of our hike around Mont Blanc in July 2018. The hike circles around the Mont Blanc massif passing through Switzerland, Italy and France. It's 175 km long with 10 km of ascent and descent. It took us two weeks to complete and included two days in Chamonix, Courmayeur and Argentiere. We are Canadians and hiking in the Canadian alps means rugged trails, wildlife, tenting and heavy packs. The Tour Du Mont Blanc had rugged trails all right but staying in refugios and luxury hotels each night and catching a beer midhike each day made this trip so civilized!
Trip Itinerary:
1. Chamonix , France (2 days)
2. Les Contamines, France
3. Bonhomme Hut, France
4. Refugio des Motetts, France
5. Refugio Elisabetta, Italy
6. Courmayeur , Italy (2 days)
7.Refugio Bonatti, Italy
8. La Fouly, Switzerland
9. Champex, Switzerland
10. Trient, Switzerland
11. Argentiere, France (2 days)
12. Refuge La Flegere, France
13. Chamonix, France
Trip logistics : Alpine Exploratory, Edinburgh, UK. This company booked all the accomodations based on our itinerary and provided us with maps. We were self-guided. Highly recommended. They were thoughtful, efficient and gave us some great advice.

Loved watching your video! My wife and I hiked the TMB in July 2018, clockwise over 9 days, and to this day I still look for and enjoy watching other hikers' videos. I loved how you animated Google Earth. I could only manage to paste our AllTrails tracks to create a 3D image of it. Our self-guided route was prepared by Salamander Adventures UK. Except for one 30 min shower, we had very pleasant, sunny weather the entire time, much like yours. But on the day we arrived back in Les Houches, there was a thunderstorm that lasted for hours! Now that I think about it, we could have been there at the same time, and even crossed paths somewhere along the trail. Cheers!

I have watched tons of films about TMB and yours is absolutely top-3. I have a question: It seems as you didn't use a tent. You stayed in hotels and refugios every night. How did you make sure to have a room? Did you book all rooms in advance or night by night? Again, tnx for a superb video! /Ralf, Sweden

Glad you enjoyed the video Ralf. In regards to booking the refugios, my wife initally tried to book all the refugios herself, but this turned out to be difficult. Large blocks of beds are booked out by companies and this made it difficult to book the refugios for the dates we wanted. It's just difficult but not impossible to book the refugios for sequential dates yourself. In the end, we used an online company called Alpine Exploratory located in Edinburgh, UK. We highly recommend them. For a modest fee they book all the refugios for you on your scheduled dates and provide you with maps and directions and suggestions. I found them courteous and knowledgeable. If I remember correctly, a few days into the hike, they managed to book us into one of the refugios that had earlier been full and then contacted us via email for the much appreciated route change. We met a few other hikers who used Alpine Exploratory along the trail and could spot them easily by the color of the map wallet the company sends you. All in all, it was a memorable hike! You'll have a great time. Ron

Refugio Bonatti is my favorite refuge/cabane and I have done both the TMB and Haute Route. The dorm room was at 16:47 was less than half full when I slept there and I woke up to the most beautiful view of Mont Blanc. The top of Mont Blanc had been cloudy for days and it was my first clear view of its top. Great video!
