Tour my Lisbon apartment; what I get for 900 Euros per month

Hey everybody! Kylie here. Today I’m sharing what spending 900 Euros per month on rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Lisbon looks like for me. AKA, I’m sharing a little tour of my apartment!
The purpose of this video is simple: To give you reference point for the expectations and budget you set for your own apartment here.
When I first started hunting for a place to live in Lisbon, I didn’t really know what was ‘realistic’ or ‘reasonable’ in terms of an apartment standard here, especially when it came to the budget.
I think it’s really easy to say “Oh, 900 Euros in the US would look like this, therefore it should look the same in Lisbon!” NO. The standards for apartments here in Portugal are very different than standards in other countries, including the US.
Overall, I hope that this video gives you some clarity when it comes to the expectations you set for your apartment including your budget. Like I say in the video, I am not trying to imply that ALL one-bedroom apartments in Lisbon at this price point look exactly like this. Rather, I’m just trying to provide one reference point.
Finding an apartment in Portugal as an expat is extremely tough to say the least; I hope this helps you, even if it’s just a little bit.
I hope that you all enjoy the video :) Please don’t forget to leave any comments or questions below and, of course, like the video if you find it valuable.
DISCLAIMERS:
1. The title of this video is “What 900Euros gets ME” not “What 900Euros can get anybody and everybody”… I hate to have to say this because it should be a given, but please keep in mind that I am not trying to say that what you find for 900Euros is going to look exactly like my apartment
2. Please do not send me a message asking where my apartment is located or if we have any available apartments in my building because I will not be revealing the location of my home
3. For privacy purposes, I will not be showing the outside of my apartment or the area where I sleep - thank you for understanding!

It’s really not that bad for $900 a month for an apartment in Lisbon. It’s quite cozy and seems to be enough for one person to live in.

You have a lovely space. I've seen smaller apts, in NYC for much more money. Still it's been sad to see the prices sky rocket in Portugal. While rentals on the costs and smalls towns are lower, they too have increased far more than they used to be!

I'm actually amazed that you were able to find a T1 in such good condition only for 900€ Either way I ask for US people to not come to Portugal to live because I don't know if you know but the average salary is 1200€ and the median salary is 1000€ of a Portuguese person most of the people at this time aren't able to get out of their parent's houses and I know people who shared a T2 apartment with they 6 people family. If you had to lower your expectation for that price imagine the average Portuguese people I know that you are not trying to do any harm to anyone but I want people to have conscience that immigrating to Portugal, because prices are low for those people, makes it impossible for Portuguese people to survive and be independent.

portuguese people lowering expectations means moving back in with parents and possibly share a bedroom with a sibling at 30 something. to americans it's an apartment with little storage space. but we are not people to them so who even cares about us.

I would say, it's a good deal for a T1 apartment in Lisbon. Amazing layout indeed! Great content Kylie!🙌🏻 Btw, I would like to know about the cumulative space in square meters.

I remember when I moved to Portugal in 2012, I had. 70m2 penthouse with a 100m2 terrasse with sea views in Oeiras for 750€. How times have changed

Loved the video and you are a smart girl, a thousand times better a tiny cave in the centre than a palace on the awful outskirts, but Avenidas Novas is a bit subjective - East of the train line, yes, CBD and great atmosphere, but west of the train line (Bairro do Rego) is a bit depressive in many aspects, but it will improve soon... Great price for the value, great choice... But the most common in Portugal are gas heaters with permanent warming, boilers like those are the rarest option, quite ok for 1 person 😢

I'm in the process of getting my D7 visa which requires proof of accommodation. I don't have a guarantor which seems to be a stumbling block for renting an apartment. My emails get few, if any, responses. Any tips for navigating this very competitive market? Thanks in advance.

Share some local websites where one can find an apartment, such as Dubizzle, Property finder and some other very popular ones in Dubai or Gulf.

Why live in Lisbon, that cost 3 times more than outside the 2 major cities (Lisbon and Porto). If i work from home, i was living in a small town close to the ocean. I live in Castro Marim (Algarve) and i need to go to Lisbon ever weekend and even than i live 300kms away of Lisbon.

Hi Artur! That is a very valid question. Admittedly, I would really like to have a place in a smaller town someday. By the way, I love Castro Marim. I have friends with a home in Praia Verde, and I love visiting that area. Especially Villa Real de Santo Antonio.. an amazing place!

That is a lovely apartment. I guess that everything is relative. A person can only be in one room at a time. Lovely home. Enjoy! The most important thing is this, can two people dance at the same time, if yes then it is big enough. Dance like no one is watching.
