This video is about De Haar castle in the province of Utrecht, Netherlands. In the first part of the video, I give a brief background of the castle before taking you through the castle.
The basements are original as well as and some parts (but as you can see a lot were walls and remains of towers) have been included in the late 19th century restoration. It became fashionable in the late 19th century, when the neo-gothic, neo-renaissance and neo-baroque architecture styles became fashionable, to restore castles. There are a few of these "restored" ones in Europe from the later 19th century: "the Romantic Age". Some of the most famous "neo-style restorations" or better "neo-style overhauls" are: Castle Neuschwannstein (Bavaria), Castle Hohenzollern (Swabia). They are often called "The Disney Castles".
