Thanks buddy, I’ve already ruined my debit card on shortwave radios. Lots of old Realistic radios from the 70s and 80s ….now I’m going to have to dive into the CB pool, my financial advisor (wife) is going to kill me . Hope that your happy 😆…love your videos brother…✝️🇺🇸🤙🏻🅰️
Hello John, your shack looks clean and you got 2 of my very favourite vintage cb radios. The Uniden Washington and the RealisticTRC-490. And of course that Yaesu FT-101EE. 😎👍
@@MowerJunkie please make a video about the Radio Shack Realistic TRC-414 radio CB. My Dad put this model of CB radio in his farm tractor and farm dump truck in the early 1980's. These CB radios functioned amazingly good for 2 mile range farm communications !
Hey thanks for giving us a tour of your shack, you have some pretty cool "classic" rigs, brings back some memories for me. One of my favorite mobile rigs was the Sears Road Talker 40 AM/SSB. I got that one when it was the last year they made them and was a good talking radio, especially on SSB. New subscriber here to your channel, 73 from RI..770 RI said that.
Awesome collection!!! I love it! Especially partial to the Realistic radios and the maverick's since I own both! Lol. My main CB is a realistic trc-414 I use in the house and my daily driver is my dark green 77 maverick!!!!!😎
Liked seeing the collection that little radshack 23 I had one those in 75 or so one of my first radios as teen also the 101d brings back memories I had 101e couple years but it was wear on transformer which was high cost replace so traded it off don't even remember the radio I got for it but that it was a over modded too many freq in cb Stay healthy 398 wis
Your Grant XL Philippines model...best mobile ssb...period(As long as a truck stop hasn't ever been in it)...Another tip. Furniture felt pads on the bottom four corners of every radio will save from "opps" scratches...
I knew you were my type of guy. We love mavericks. Wish I still had mine. I scored on a President Washington a couple of weeks ago. Love, love, love it. Talked to smokestack in Michigan yesterday on it. 7 3's from Bama. MC7.
My first car was a '72 Merc Comet aka "Maverick with fancy trim." Baby blue. Looked like Grandma's car but had a 302 stuffed between the shock towers instead of the usual straight 6. Nice weight-to-horsepower ratio. Way too much fun for a 16-year-old kid!
I hope you read this you can never have to many radios my friend this is winterhawk 262s friend keep the kool videos on play 73s to your family and you 😉
Great stuff! I’ve been off the air a bit. Replacing my antenna and coax in just a few days. I’m starting fresh with my new Icom 7300. Looking forward to talking to you soon! All my best to you John! WWS3922/K3DMM
You sure got a lot of radios! The Anytone will have processor noise making background noise in the receiver. Newer CBs are the same, I don't think newer CBs are so sensitive as the older ones of the 80's. Not all progress inn better! An amazing look around you Man Caves :-))
Man that's a great collection. But I don't think there is a 12-step program that will fix what you have going on there. LOL. You are in deep. 😆. Thanks for the veidos.
Very nice collection, I think that you are going to have to build a house addition. Thanks for sharing as always. A few nights ago A few of us caught your TEST Utube live with chat. I must say that we took advantage of the live chat and shared much about our radios, antennas, locations, and call signs. It was nice to talk with other folks and if you were there I am listening for you on 37-38-39 Lssb. So 151 are you going to start doing some live shows?????. Live shows would work for sure. You didn't have a show but we still showed up and enjoyed it much. LOL. 73s from The Ghost NY202 Adirondack Mtns NY.
lol, I didn't know anyone knew about the test. I had trouble with My audio, and was not able to go live. I'm hoping to get it resolved soon. Take care Ghost, 73's from 151 SC.
Nice radios and shack setup, I noticed the two cobra 2000 speakers and desk mic. I have two cobra 2000 GTL's one I've had for 40 years now the other one was given to me it's been opened up it has extra channels you're more than welcome to this one if there were some way to contact you
I recently purchased a Washington. It was one of my dream radios as a kid. I was on 38 lsb the other day and heard someone out trying to reach you. You must have been on there at the same time. Conditions didn’t have you in there for me in West Virginia. 277 waving a hand!
Awesome set up MJ. Let me give you some super honest sound advice regarding your "Yeasu FT" transiever. That Yeasu has some electrolytic capacitor banks inside, and some of those caps are fairly large in size, i strongly suggest you change them out or take it to a qualified radio repair "Henry Radio" in California. Being as old as that receiver is, GUARANTEED, the caps are dried out, my Yeasu 101 one day EXPLODED Yes Kaboom!!! One day when i was operating it, one of the caps in my radio was dry, and couldnt take it anymore, scared the living daylights out of me. After that happened, the radio shut down, when I opened the case, there was a ton of electrolytic paper from the cap, and the aluminum can from the capacitor was destroyed. Just some sound advice MJ, id hate to hear that your unit did the same, after some fresh caps, the radio will work like new, also being you have the frequency counter, that radio has a testing feature that allows you to check to see if the transciever is on frequency and isnt drifting, go onkine and pickup a owners/service manual for it, youll be surprised what that Yeasu can do!!!
With all those radios and not having microphones for all you need to build a patch box so you can go from your most common mic plug to the other style connectors. If you build it, mac sure to shield the audio line!
Years ago, they sold a small device (a box with an SO239 connector on one side) that could plug into the house wiring wall outlet, it claimed to turn the entire house into a CB antenna. It also had a tuning knob, .. never tried one but it worked like a long wire ant through a tuner.
You can never have to much radios iam surrounding with lot's of old school radios just loves it all are 80s set. keep away from new today's radios it noisy rubbish radios President washington are super set and realistic trc-450 are fantastic radios and Adam to. I have Icom 7300 I never use it on CB bands I don't enjoy working on it you just don't have the CB feelings. Great video Mower Junkie.
Agree, they should cost less and be a better quality, especially if they are asking £200 + for them. The newer ones are not so good, better looking for an old sideband one, but of course these are NOT legal :-((
im from italy, the country where the cb born, with the famous alan 48(i own one of them),i suggest you ti buy a crt ss6900n that has cw am fm usb and lsb
@@nicolalamotta9554 I wish I had the money just to go out and buy one, I like the 80s style of CB build, they were not menu driven and had knobs that did things, okay, they were not all singing and dancing CBs but they worked and most worked well if they had SSB in them. The modern CBs are terrible as far as I am concerned, buttons for about 5 functions and if you delay it goes back to where it was. Give me a 80s CB any day.
That was alot of fun looking at the equipment while you narrated! Nicely arranged and well displayed👍 I've been watching some Yaesu 101's on ebay but haven't bought yet. I know absolutely nothing about them but thought about purchasing. Any advice from you or subscribers is always appreciated! Need a ssb base and currently taking in the whole "realm" of radios out there. Have you done any videos on your Yaesu? New subscriber and haven't gotten through all your content yet. 73's to you and yours from 79 in Nebraska
The Yaesu FT-101 series were trailblazers 50 years ago. Featuring a solid-state receiver and tube transmitter (1-12BY7A driving 2-6146) they made about 100 watts output. They have about 800 volts inside them for the tubes so unless you have the required skills don't open it up.
Hi,great shack, bit to busy for me, but looking good 👍, ICan you help me I'm thinking of stacking two yagi one is a 11 meter 4 element yagi about a meter higher than a three element 3 band 20/15/10 meter yagi do you think that'll there can be problems, thanks from Rotterdam 👍
I'm sure there is a formula for calculating the proper distance between the 2 antennas. I just don't know what it is. Keep searching, I'll bet Google can help You find the answer. Thanks for watching, Take care.
@@MowerJunkie ,yes Google should have the answer, but it is difficult to find,,,,I think that i will try and see what happens 😉,,,thanks from Rotterdam 👍
2 things: 1) The Sears SSB slant face top shelf. If it runs you will will never talk on SSB with any other radio again. I have the JC Penny version. The boards were made by Hitachi. The Hams back in the day would modify them for 10-12 meter and I have one of them also. 2) We have an 88 yo man (Handle is Jazzmaster #47) that has a flat faced Sears Roadtalker like the one on the second shelf. I tried to fix it for him but the crystals are mostly gone in it. If I gave you my number would you consider parting with that one?? I’d LOVE to give that one to him and or be able to use that for parts/repair his. Thanks!
I hope You can find the Roadtalker You need, But unfortunately Mine is not for sale. It took Me a long time to find it, and I just can't part with it. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.
@@MowerJunkie NP and I understand. Have you used that Slant face radio on SSB yet? Would love to see a vid on it. It’s probably the most stable and best sounding radios I have. The JC Penny version I have will NEVER leave my shack.😀
Where and how do you find that Kenwood I'm getting ready to hang up the driving about 2 years I would like Bass radio with upper and lower sideband and I've also thought about getting my ham license
I got lucky with the Kenwood, A Friend called Me and told Me He had it for sale. You can find radios on Ebay, Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.
Hey Mower Junkie! Love your stuff on here! I got into CB as a kid back in the 1970s and was active until the early 2000s. Watching your videos is tempting me to get back in. That Sears RoadTalker 40 SSB base is a severely underrated radio. When I was 14, I found one in the box at a Sears Surplus store for $149. Half the regular price. Needless to say, I grabbed it and promised Mom I'd sell some of my other radios so I could pay her back. Great receive and very "punchy" transmit audio. The only problem was that the internal power supply was too small for SSB use. It would clip on modulation peaks while running it in the house, but not in the car. That issue was easily solved by using a 5 amp external supply. Other than that, it was flawless. I ran it for about 3 years before upgrading to a Cobra 142GTL. Thanks again for the great videos. Keep 'em coming! KADF-6895, the Rhinestone Cowboy on the Penetrator Power Base, from waaaay back in the day!
i have a TRC-490 Navaho(upgraded/with extras) just like the one next to your amp ? i am looking to buy a roger beep hand held mic---i have 29 radios and would trade for a hand held rb mic..or maybe you may know where i can find one thanks...73's from unit 040 dave C . Newfondland, Canada
I just discovered your very interesting RU-vid channel. I see you have had several of the TRC-465 models. It looks like an excellent radio so I am keeping my eyes open for one.
Good morning Chris. I heard You calling for Me this morning, But I was up on a ladder working on My garage, and couldn't get to the radio. Don't You hate it when work keeps us away from the radio.
@@MowerJunkie I absolutely hate it when I take my lunch break while the skip is rolling and have to return for the afternoon drag only to come home and find the skip has subsided! I figured you probably heard me as I was chatting with some operators around your neck of the woods. 73's to ya John!
I had an tuned up rci 2995 which i liked very much bought it for 500 but the deal was if i wanted to sell it he wanted first shot kept ot 2 years was setup on an antron 99 sold it back to him fro the same price an bought a icom 718 i do have a lisence for it but its not the same as cb.....all i have to do is take a dioded out and it would transmit on 1 meters but theres no cb traffic in the area
I sound like a broken record but I have a friend who works on Yaesu 101 and mower junkie if you were to hear that radio on the am band it would blow your mind one of the loudest best sounding radios 11 m am band he usually installs am filter and man when you hear that thing will put a cobra 2000 to shame
Junkie, you might think about getting one of the Washingtons or the t very nice Shack radios. I didn't see any of the wideband radios you have used before. The G90 wasn't there either. As for the FT101, I once had one with the phone patch just like yours, I sold them when I had to admit running a Radio Shack, and renting meant no radio for me. I regret selling the FT101 it was the serial with the last 4 serial 358 with a bunch of 0s before it. It came directly from Japan from an Air Force officer, I traded a Collins set of Trans and reliever for it. bru-vid.comvideos
I use my Icom 7300 on 11 meter ham radio Sound much better on sideband and put out a hundred Watts without a amp if I had all those radios I would sell probably half of them you can only use one radio at a time I have two friends who have Yaesu 101 ham radio and believe it or not they sound better and louder than any normal CB radio on AM if you were smart you would use that Yaesu 101 because the audio is fantastic you just don't know what you're missing sir once you hear the audio of a Yaesu 101 you would trash the rest of those CB radios I have a friend that's all he works on our Yaesu101 one of the best sounding and loudest radios on the a.m. will put your CB radios to shame just put an AM filter in that radio and it will sound better and louder than any CB radio made guaranteed!!!!!
