Wow, thanks! I think there are lots of fantastic ones out there but we're really happy with how ours has turned out. Works well for what we want and the space!

Haha, I figured the larger screen can help with some of the shots. Still learning!

Absolutely lovely. So nice to see it raised for easy access.
@hsbagardenrailway
@hsbagardenrailway Год назад
Thank you! That was actually a secondary bonus. The main reason it is raised is because the level of the garage floor is much higher and I didn't want to deal with that complexity! 😂

A very good high quality video clip. How about having some semaphore signals a to add to the Scene! Meet the challenge! Keith

Multiple orange buckets - more the excitement to get a couple of tour videos out after days working on the layout. Will try to hide them next time

What is the story behind the almost, but not really, german names? Family related? Thanks for the great overview, a wonderful layout.
@hsbagardenrailway
@hsbagardenrailway 2 года назад
Correct! Most of the locations are based on names of friends or family. The 4 main stations make up HSBA. We knew we wanted lots of -nods- to make the railway more personal to us so we are happy how it turned out

Hi Curtis, What a lovely railway. Saw you mentioned in the G-Scale Society Journal. You talked about using computer automation in your TV interview. Is that operating the trains in this video? Or are you and Nikki running them manually? I really like the use of passing places which adds interest to the movement of everything. I also like that you added quite a few sidings for storage of stock, and made good use of crossovers, but nice to see plenty of space has been left for Nikki to work her magic with trees, shrubs and low level growth, its all looking very mature already. My partner really brings our railway to life as well. Keep us posted on progress please! Jim and Carole.

Hi Jim & Carole. Thank you for the lovely words - we really appreciate it. RE computer automation - not yet. We use DCC and in the video one of us is simply controlling things off camera from the controller. We have the hardware for computer control (in boxes in the garage) and the software (we will use iTrain). Our main focus is getting everything reliable first. I've done a very basic test in the garage on a simple siding and it worked well. I've never really been an "operations" person but had a fun session a couple of years ago with a friend in Germany so wanted to give us options. At very least, it's nice to have a train standing while another passes. I think I may have taken a -little- more land for the railway than Nikki expected but we've had fun planting it up. We've had some great sun recently and some of the plants have really taken off which will need handling. Nikki really took it from a pile of mud with some brass in it to something we're really enjoying. If you're ever over in Jersey, let us know and you'll be welcome round for a drink, chat and to see the railway.

Hi great garden railway but could you help in wiring up a DCC OO garden railway as I have no idea.
@hsbagardenrailway
@hsbagardenrailway 2 года назад
I'm sure 00 is much the same as G Scale but it really depends on what you're trying to achieve. My main recommendation is to checkout: ru-vid.comvideos The owner of the channel (Charlie) does an amazing job walking through different techniques and should be of a lot of help.

How is the railway controlled? Is it DCC or analogue
@projektor4
@projektor4 2 года назад
I´m curious too Mark Miller. My guess is its battery powered, with remote control. I see no signalling to halt a train to allow another to pass at a junction and @ 5:55 on the upper line the train loops back onto the single track. Any info HSBA GR would be helpful for my year old layout. Thanks Keith.
@hsbagardenrailway
@hsbagardenrailway 2 года назад
@@projektor4 Hi both. It's controlled by DCC. The upper line reversing loop is controlled by a special bit of kit that automatically reverses the polarity of the rains to prevent a short (the section of track is isolated at both ends). The signalling @ 5:55 is "virtual signalling" in that Nikki was off camera stopping the train!

@@hsbagardenrailway thanks for the info. I recently saw that reverse polarity kit with a circuit diagram on one of facebook´s garden railway groups.

We use the equipment from MD Electronics. Works wonderfully and configurable via CVs to adjust sensitivity

Umm What scale train Is on the railroad?
@hsbagardenrailway
@hsbagardenrailway Год назад
It's G 'Scale' but that is a bit inaccurate. Most of our stock is scale 1:22.5 (made by LGB), however, different manufacturers make different scales from 1:20 to 1:30 (generally speaking). They all compatible if you don't mind the scale difference. They will all run on the same track which has a gauge of 45mm (G).
