I'm so glad to have found your video. I have a Honda Pilot and just started buying things to be able to use it as a camper. I don~t see many people using a Honda Pilot as a camper so it's nice to see your set up.
I just found your channel, because I'm interested in an SUV about the size of a pilot, or maybe a passport. But I must say, I love your style of getting to the point about things but not feeling rushed. For me, too many van lifers or micro campers go on and on and on and on so I appreciate your style!
LOL, love the "stealth" and "not stealth" comparison. I think our rig falls under the "definitely not stealth" category. 😝 You have a really great setup. It's amazing how much stuff you can get into a very compact space.
Hey Chris and Emilie! Your Honda Pilot camper conversion is awesome! I haven't seen too many pilots converted like this. Very cool to see the pilot be used for overlander adventure. You guys have plenty of space in there.
For mine (04 pilot), I'd probably take out the middle row for camping and leave the third row as the sofa. That would leave enough leg room for a small table in front of the seats. It would also produce a lot of underbed storage that you can access from bed just by opening the door. Of course, the third row seats are nowhere near as comfortable as the second, and the 04 is different than your Pilot. There are only 80 inches from the back of the front seats to the tailgate and the second row doesn't fold down flush. It's higher than the back.
Totally agree! We've been thinking about taking out both rows of seats for a while to get more interior space. It's funny to think about turning an 8-seater vehicle into a 2-seater, but the storage space and extra room inside will be worth it!
I think there might have been a few issues specific to the 2016, but we have a 2017. The Toyota Highlanders we looked at didn’t have quite the length we needed, which is one of the reasons we chose a Pilot. We’re very happy with our choice!
This looks fantastic. In this video are you using the same wooden compact foldable bed extension as in your previous video? During the daytime where do you store the extension and bedding items? Thank you so much!
Thanks! Yup, it's the same bed extension we showed in the other video. When we're in living room mode, we roll up the bed to fit behind the seat (it rolls up under the clothing shelf) and the plywood plank slides in behind the seat.
@@ChrisAndEmilie I love that it isn't so complex like a lot of the other layouts I've seen. I'm amazed that there is enough space for a kitchenette area in the back and a clothing shelf. Great design! I was wondering about the headroom. How many inches are there from the top of the platform to the ceiling? Are you able to sit up straight? Thx again so much.
@@hkey31 The Pilot has been great for us - we love the flexibility of having a vehicle that fits almost anywhere with the comfort of a camper. When we're in "bed mode", I (Emilie) can sit up - I'm 5'4". Chris needs to duck a bit. But we have no trouble changing into our PJs, reading, or watching videos before we go to sleep. And during the day we're in "living room" mode which has full head room.
@@ChrisAndEmilie Thank you so much. Your information is so helpful! How tall is Chris? My husband is 6'1'' so I'm pretty sure he is will be crouching over! Thank you again!
@@hkey31 Oh yes, he would be! Chris is about 5’10”. Also, the setup we have with the kitchen in the back would need to be adjusted from what we have, as we only allow for a little over 6’ in sleeping space.
Thanks! We close the tailgate at night, but no, we don’t have any battery drain at all from keeping the tailgate open all day. Our tailgate isn’t powered and we changed the car settings to keep off all the interior lights.
Hey - we have different coverings on the front and back windows. For the back ones with the screen/fans/privacy, check out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wod7ow7pMSM.html and for the front ones which give us privacy but no ventilation check out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wbIgiPuOXrs.html
Hi Emilie and Chris... "It's me again" LoL we got the 2-tier sliding drawer organizer today... Quick question... did you cut or just bend the top drawer for the water jug to fit? Thanks in advance =) ~ Maria
Very slick indeed. In the planning process as we have a 19 elite with 2 captain chairs in the 2nd row and was wondering if you had any ideas of a bed extender for this seat config. I was thinking about the same setup as yours with a separate drop-in filler panel to sit 'in between' on the armrests when the seats are folded down or I suppose that section could be a 'fold-up' part of the main section??? Thanks.....
Yes, we imagine the captains chairs would add some complexity. We spent quite a bit of time measuring everything to get it just right - with the captains chairs you'll either need a separate piece or a fold-out like you mentioned. Depending on the size of the space, you may also be able to get away with some firm foam. Let us know what you end up doing!
It's not always easy, but we find ways. We usually shower/bathe inside our tailgate tent, which doesn't have a floor. Though using public or gym showers is also an option. Hope this helps!
