Here's a tour of our box truck to tiny house conversion.
The entire build took 6 weeks and about $4000 (not including the truck).
We also made a time-lapse of the entire build, which you can watch here:
From Box Truck to Tiny House - Full Build Time-lapse
• From Box Truck to Tiny...
Here's a more in depth video of how I built it:
How to Convert a Box Truck to a Tiny House
• How to Convert a Box T...
We traveled in this for most of 2019.

I love this!!! Finally, a realistic conversion that is not suuuper fancy, but still pretty, cozy, clever, and economical, with some priorities, and simple yet handy solutions. Exactly how I'd do it. This video might also solve my tiny house vs. van conversion dilemma! Thank you for showing us.

I grew up in a broken home raised by a single Dad. I had everything I wanted and more. But I had abandonment issues and I was lonely and acted out . I made horrible decisions which led to serious consequences. Luckily I got on the right path and changed my life. If I were given the choice to be raised by both parents and my sibling in a tiny home, or to be raised by a single parent away from my sibling yet live in luxury . I would choose tiny home living. FAMILY IS EVERYTHING!!!! There are some things that money just can't buy.

Nice. I've had this idea in my head for years. And you actually did it. Very cool. I lived aboard a 27 foot trawler for 6 years. When my head (toilet) stopped working I rigged a composting toilet similar to what you have. But, if you don't want the smell, get a few small bags of sphagnum peat moss. You line your bucket with a plastic bag, add the peat moss, and get a large kitty litter scoop. After each poo you cover the waste in peat moss. You can immediately scoop it out and put it into a plastic bag (I used the bags I got each time I went grocery shopping, they're free), then take it to a dumpster and dispose of it. The peat moss not only shrouds the smell, but it also help in the breakdown of fecal matter, which is what compost does, it molecularly breaks down waste.
@korasadler3790
@korasadler3790 2 года назад
I was thinking kitty litter, but peat moss is a game changer. I would use dried eucalyptus plants tied in bundles for the shower, also helps with smell.

So, he's got 9k into this Truck conversion... look at Craigslist in your area, under RV's, with a 7K-10k price range. I've seen numerous Class A RV's with 50,000 mileage for this price. I am NOT knocking him, everybody likes something different, and that's A-OK with me.... but there are options out there that are really nice for this money. I am in the mid-west, and the deals around here for used RV's are massive.

Also no way could you bought a nicer RV for that amount of money it would have been a crap hole. I'm not sure where you live but it must be really cheap there because where I live that would be hello expensive for anything. Also this is made from a box truck which is going to be a lot more durable than any RV which is only made to go on vacation occasionally and be kept in a garage otherwise. Ever looked in the walls of an RV they're full of mold... because you're not need to be a kept outside as long as most people keep them out there!

We built one as well out of an old used UHaul, we kept the rolling door , as well as we put in two windows in the back and a door in the center, when we traveled we pulled the roll door down over our entrance into the truck. We had a long kitchen counter with cabinets below and above , a bathroom with a camp toilet and the attic was also our two daughters bedroom. We had a futon bunk as well, the lower bed folded up into a couch and was slept on by my husband and I had the top bunk. We used the pull out ramp ( that came installed with the truck) as our walkway. We had an inverter system for power as well as out fitted with a power source to use electricity in campgrounds, as well as a propane stove like yours. We had a mini fridge and a mini AC , tv and DVD player and computer and fax , it was great and truly an adventure for sure for us.

I just bought a used 24 foot, drivable RV on Craigslist with a full kitchen with fridge, full bath and sleeps 6 for $5600 complete and running. No living compromises. Bath and shower with blue, gray, and black water tanks fully functional. Before I bought this one I looked at five others in and around the same price. All fully functioning with full baths and tanks. I can’t understand for one second why anyone would spend nearly $10,000 on something that requires such huge sacrifices as pooping in a bucket, having to cook outside in the rain or having to haul your sink water out by the bucket. That doesn’t sound like intelligent money spent to me. Regardless of the “satisfaction” of doing it yourself. And I’m a remodeler by trade. My issue is your repeated comments about budget and lack of money, yet you threw $10,000 into something you could have bought completed with more functionality for nearly half the money.

LOVE! From what I remember the 'Tiny House Movement' was based on having a design that worked 4u and that was affordable; as in finding what you could as cheaply as possible/ or free/repurpose and then "luxury" came along and that's ok too but I think there's more satisfaction doing your best creativity and not borrowing $, etc to do a build. This IS a beautiful space - I'd be proud to call home - even more so because of keeping to budget. Happy & Safe Travels - A new subscriber looking forward to your family's dreams coming true! And building my own soon - a giddy 'can't wait' :)

I think a stealth door on the side of the kids sleeping area would be one way to get a second egress on the cheap. Not a window but a simple flip up panel mounted flush to the box wall. Or a window on the front of their sleeping area maybe? That way they could drop onto the hood and climb down the front bumper. Yeah!

Super job on your mini house. I have 1 recommendation and possibly 1 added feature you may of already thought about. Please move the battery to the engine compartment (acid fumes) and maybe later on a deck on the back that folds up like a "Toy Hauler Rv" for added enjoyment space. Just some ideas or thoughts for the future. Love your style. Camp-On guys.

I've seen a box truck where they added doors so that it would look like a regular delivery truck so that they could be stealth. That would still work here I think. They did it in such a way that they had access from the inside to open it. Wish I could remember who it was. They were in England I believe. At any rate, I love the home look of the back of the truck.
@FrankiesFancy
@FrankiesFancy 5 лет назад
Yeah but if you're parked somewhere for the night and thieves see what they think is an abandoned delivery truck, they're more likely to break into it thinking there are goods to steal in there. They're less likely to mess with it if they think people are in there. Where there are people, there are phones to call cops, baseball bats and guns...

I saw a similar conversion in which they made an opening between the box and the front cabin which gives the house a more spacious feel, ads more light and ventilation and in case of bad weather or any other emergency, you don't have to walk outside in order to drive off. Makes sense and not too hard or expensive to achieve.

I would like to add, if you had the outward swinging door, you create a major fall risk with the steps being right outside the door. It will also make opening the door from the outside more difficult due to being lower than the door and on the ground. You would not be able to open the door while standing on the steps.
