I used to live on Fillmore Place. Henry Miller wrote about the street in "The Tropic of Capricorn" saying "“[it was] the most enchanting street I have ever seen in all my life. It was the ideal street-for a boy, a lover, a maniac, a drunkard, a crook, a lecher, a thug, an astronomer, a musician, a poet, a tailor, a shoemaker, a politician.” I would have tour guides wake me up in the morning talking about the street outside my window.

It's so dope to see Puerto Ricans mentioned in a video about Williamsburg. So many bloggers on RU-vid marginalize that part.

Born and raised in Williamsburg. 3rd generation. I resided across the street from Eli Whitney. I have so many memories with my family and friends. The irony is, when the wannabes start asking you where you're from and how long have you been there, because they've never seen you before. It becomes undesirable to go back. Even to visit my Mom who's lived in the same walk up, railroad apartment for 40 years. The dick building in downtown Brooklyn is One Hanson Place. Got my braces done there. Great video.

I lived in Williamsburg in the early 90s-before it was cool-at 798 Driggs, right next to Peter Luger's. I often intone that Henry Miller line: "No saint ever walked there," while walking in Brooklyn-a.k.a. Breukelen or "the broken land."

My mom always called the Williamsburg Bridge, the Delancey Street Bridge. I've always wondered if that was what LES residents called it. My grandmother settled in the LES when she first emigrated from Eastern Europe.

Great video, great historian and fun presentation. Please keep in mind that Bob Dole held his hand that way because of being wounded while serving his country. He lived with that disability, his whole life, which is why he held a pen in public to deflect the hand weakness. This is the man who has helped out of his wheelchair, not being able to stand without being held up, so that he could salute a U.S. president lying in state. Respect please.

There are pretty Hispanic, Blacks, and the Jewish in Willisamsburg. Now many people moved to the Williamsburg from Manhattan after gentrification. Not only Williamsburg, many people moved to Flatbush, Boro Park, Prospect Park, too. That's all start from the year 2004, the start of gentrification. Many local people moved out as new people move in and new house raising up pushing the house rent and price go up. Flatbush housing trading transaction now over the Williamsburg transaction, become one of the hottest area in the whole Brooklyn. Borough Park is third after Flatbush and Williamsburg.

I Grew up in the Lower East Side in the 70's if You Need any info. I Grew Up on Rutgers Street. And went to school at PS137. Which now goes by another name. Did you know that there was a Bus Depot on Cherry Street and Rutgers Street. (Green Line Bus) Before MTA Bus was Formed.
