Memorial Drive was originally planned as a freeway, think it was to be called Northern Expy or Northern Fwy, something like that. Watching you drive along it Sam, it reminds me of how Tonkin and Roe used to be (and still are in a couple of parts). Kind of a freeway, but with a mixture of interchanges and at grade intersections. Unlike, Tonkin, Roe and Reid in Perth, I doubt Memorial Dve will ever be upgraded to a full freeway though.
Interesting. I didn't know that. I did notice that looks like a half-assed expressway when driving along it. Reminds me of Hutt Road in Wellington, NZ.
Memorial drive was originally designed to go under overpasses for Towradgi road Railway Street Corrimal Rothery Street and Bellambi lane the same as Popes lane. One out of four aint bad I guess. Instead peak hour is usually quicker going the Princes Highway through Fairy Meadow. Like everything here there was no thoughts and planning for future population growth with the main roads.
Interesting. Sounds like the same story as most cities - only receiving a watered-down version of original plans due to funding. Surely they still have space along there to grade-separate those intersections if required though?
