Revel is awesome...love the bed system and all the mods you can do....but without that Volta system...I have to go with the Travato. Although, Im a little biased! Great to see Tab, met him at the Revel Rally...awesome guy! :)

The revel lets you go camping in the actual wild tho. That travato is reversing 6 miles back up a forest road at the first washout/water crossing/fire break ditch . To each their own. Sauce: have long wheelbase sprinter and frequently reverse at above obstacles

So I have neither, but I kinda have parts of both - the Winnebago Solis 59P. First, I think many of you are overreacting to the cassette thing. Its not like dumping a bed pan! And why would anyone need two sinks? In case one is occupied? The smaller frig has been tolerable, I too use a Yeti for the day’s drinks/ice. Don’t forget the door screen difference, The zippered and magnetized flaps are great. Still, it’s all about your use case. For someone trying to choose a B van, I would make a list of all the functions within a rig, then under each list the different features out there that deliver the function, and decide which feature fits your use. Example: function - sleeping beds. feature - A. 2 big beds B. 1 big bed, one single. C. Bed stays in place D. Bed folds away for more space. Etc. then score your rig choices based on function value. No rig will have a perfect score, but maybe you’ll find the highest score.

They are both great rigs, but for me and my lifestyle, the Revel wins! The rear lounge GLSS is a game changer...your evaluation related to the sprinter is a big thumbs down! I have a Mercedes, they are safe and built on quality chassis. The cost to maintain is more expensive, but you don’t have to do maintenance as often. I live on the west coast so diesel gas isn’t a problem, expensive...but it’s always available. The cassette toilet is awesome for obvious reasons. 5 gallons will only need dumping once a week or so if there are one or two people. But for certain, it’s nice to have options on where to dump! The 2021 Revel has many new options that are also a game changer...which is the one I’m buying! Thanks for the video and comments! And for the record, I will not be full timing, so my comments really can’t be compared to yours...and I can totally understand your thoughts. Cheers and happy travels!

Really wish Winnebago did a Revel “Light” on the Ford 4x4 chassis. The 2020 Ford is cheaper than a Sprinter but offers stuff a Promaster doesn’t. It’s also gas and not diesel. Maybe in two or three years.

Would’ve been better on the f-series chassis to provide a more stable platform rather than a van chassis modified to have 4x4. The suspension can be modified to be dual terrain while at the same time giving more than adequate ground clearance for all tanks and plumbing that is needed to bookdock

Victor Torres this is why people go truck camper. It can make a lot of sense for over landing. Even the 4x4 sprinter is not truly an off-roading vehicle - but it’s good for posers lol.

Scott, good comparison. I think for the most part, most people will be just fine with a Promaster-based RV like your Travato when dealing with BLM "roads", etc. You will never be able to truly "Overland" on a Revel because they are too heavy (over 9,000lbs), and too tall (10'). You need to overland, get a Jeep/Tacoma/4Runner. The 4x4 system lifts the floor way higher than Promaster's Front drive system. Also, the price is prohibitive. Compared to your Travato, probably another $60k-$70k more expensive than Lilly. Maintenance is much higher on Sprinters. Not just oil changes, but you have to be careful with fuel filtration / quality as Sprinters are notorious for needing injector maintenance, which is very costly. Finally, the DEF. You need to carry around yet another fluid because you will empty DEF every 5 tank fill-ups.

Excellent video Scott. When I purchased my ’19 Travato K two years ago I considered a lot of camper vans and in the end narrowed it down to the K and the Revel. Winnebago has upgraded both since then but some of the basics still hold. One, I am a mountain biker and the fact there is no easy way to stored two mountain bikes upright (with front wheels off) in the Revel garage with the bed down is just a huge miss for me. Storing the bikes inside was one of the major drawing cards of the Revel but needing to take them out at night to sleep defeats this important benefit. Two, cooking while traveling/camping is one of the joys of being out exploring and living. Only one induction burner and no microwave/convection oven in the Revel makes cooking more about sustenance than food enjoyment. Granted, cooking outside evens this some. Finally, the bathroom and overall comfort level of the Revel was a non-starter for my wife. The mod in Tad's Revel addresses this but man you end up spending big bucks. In the end, for me, the Revel’s main advantage, and it is a huge one, is that it includes 4X4 and more clearance. I always joke that by the time I get my K paid off, there will be a 4X4 version of the Travato which would be ideal for us.

I like the revel, and for the type of activities he does, it seems well suited for him. I looked at all the commercially produced vans available, and I settled on the Travato. For me personally, I have the KL, the size and function is perfect, and with its beautifully integrated lithium system and auto start/charge feature, I have zero regrets. Love my T! But I can certainly see the appeal of the Revel. It’s a nice looking van, and very functional for the active weekend warrior.

Absolutely. I’ve always had the plan of converting a Ford AWD Transit into a poor mans Revel. Next year Ford comes out with an all electric Transit. I really want to see if one can convert one into a camper van.

I think if you’re comparing a Travato with lithium like yours, you should review the many 2021 Revel videos and specs as your discussion points. The 21 has a lithium system, not sure if it’s Volta or not. It has a slightly bigger, more convenient refrigerator. Much more counter space with a more useable sink and an induction cooktop. The outside table is more convenient to use. The dinette seat looks to be improved. Add the garage storage system and it looks to be hard to beat. The same company also has a mattress upgrade that looks real nice too. Wish you would have asked Tab about his seat back organizer. That looks pretty cool! Your videos are bringing a lot of interesting people and their cool stuff out for people to see! Hope you can find the new Solis PX out in the wild soon! It should be able to handle the couple with two kids that is being missed by the Travato.

I like the bed on the Revel as you can always keep it made. Unfortunately you lose your garage or have to put the 'stuff' from the garage outside to use the lounge area. Having a 4x4 in my humble opinion is awesome yet most of us can get by with good clearance plus decent tires and Recovery Boards as we don't want to beat our house to death on gnarly roads. Bottom line is it's all about options, what do you really want and need and then how much can you afford. This site does a great job showcasing other rigs and giving honest reviews. Thanks Scott. BTW, I have a Promaster 136, platform bed, sink, stove, composting toilet, Wildpeak AT3 tires + boards with dreams of adding the Off Highway 3" raise kit which you now enjoy.

I have only had my fiat ducato base autotrail vline van a short time. We are restricted in adventures in the uk by the kungflu at the moment, so not been used a lot. My previous van, I had for years was a vw t5. Hacked the little van around Europe and loved it. I want to take my vline on a drive from England to Spain, its not practical/possible at the moment, so I look to RU-vid for inspiration and increase my van knowledge When I got my new van I went for the shortest of vans, 5.4 metres, because it fits easy on my drive with other cars etc and its easy to park. I look at your vans and I do have a bit of length envy lol. Love the channel.

Seems like the travato is a better interior space and full time living. You can live in there way better. Revel is better adventure experience and you compromise on the living space and the bathroom. Although I love the revel bed/garage setup. I love the travado dining space/work station.

Thanks, for telling both sides. I love that about you! 2021 model takes away from some of Revels plus numbers. Waiting for Ford 4x4 on medium length chassis. The lithium on Revel leaves a lot to be desired. GO VOLTA! Go engine alternator. No electronics in Revel. Come on Winnebago...get designers that were born into camping....not prep school city guys.

I've been looking an various vans for a while. Like the Revel, but Travato is much more plush (fridge/bath, etc) and the Volta is a game changer. Storyteller Overland is like a Revel with Volta and apparently VERY well built - I might go that way if 4x4 is crucial. Curious how limiting the Travato has really been and how often you wished you had a 4x4. I think most people would be able to do just fine with a 2WD vehicle - you're not going too crazy with a 5 ton van anyway. Keep up with the great videos!!

Travato is more of a older family oriented vehicle while the rebel is geared more to the off road adventurer. It’s all relative to how you travel and how you want to stay over. Boondocking vs travel to specific campground related destinations

I love the 4x4 and the GLSS. The Garage Lounge Storage System is definetely a game changer for me to get a Revel. Love it. I would put storage to open inside in the garage. I like that you can remove the total GLSS if you want. Love the safety features when driving a Mercedes Sprinter especially the blind spot monitor feature. And the auto sliding door is cool. Not sure if it has keyless entry and start so I don’t have to pull my keys out to open the door and lock the keys in the vehicle by mistake. LOL. I heard the new 2021 Revel garage has the heat vents in a different place and may interfere with the GLSS....i hope not.

I just had to replace the transmission in my 2003 Sprinter Class B van I bought last September. That along with new brakes and several other repairs and I've spent 8k! I wish I was joking. I would never buy another Sprinter, as nice as they are. I would love to have a Travato 59G, but I'm committed to this one for a while. It will definitely be the first thing I look at when I'm prepared to sell. Just found your channel, really enjoying your content. ❤️

Thank you Scott as I’ve been waiting for this comparison for quite some time. It seems to me that once you pay the expensive price tag for the Revel it’s only the beginning. GLSS system, Owl ladder, box, bike rack, and another 10k-30k for a Frankenstein’d lithium system which is no where near a Volta. No thanks. You’re into the Revel for another 40k-60k on top of the original price. Travato 59GL is still the hands down winner. Like you the cassette toilet just doesn’t work for me. Once I get rid of it I certainly don’t want to sneak it into a Hardee’s to empty 🤮 Great work maestro 👊🏽

Scott, the 2021 doesn’t have a “Frankenstein” lithium system...it’s a full 30 amp 250 amp hours of power throughout the entire coach. The air conditioning actually runs off the new system. You can also add an additional battery now as well. Cost, well you surely have your points there! I’m not a Dodge fan, and the cassette toilet is so awesome compared to a regular black tank...I have a 35 foot diesel pusher and the tank dumping sites can be problematic when traveling. They are both excellent rigs in their own right, but we all have our likes and dislikes. Safe travels!

Great tour! I love the shorter wheelbase and the coolness factor of the Revel, but Mercedes.means high maintenance $$$ in my town with few mechanics who will service Mercedes. Great insight into both rigs. Different use cases for full-time vs part-time. I’m leaning towards the Revel but if the Travato had four wheel drive, a lift and a lift bed system it would be a no-brainer.

I agree with you on the pros and cons of the 2 vehicles 100 %. I put an order on travato GL 2 months ago just because of the volta system. Front wheel drive may not be that great because it seems the center of gravity is more on the rear side. I like gas engine more, 100 % agree with you!

I love it when the GL vs KL discussions start, lol. For people like you that need an office the GL is an obvious winner but I read a post on the FB owners page where someone said "after a day's driving who wants to try to relax in a driver's chair". Hmmm! So I ask myself, if it's a rainy day or I'm not feeling well, which one would be better to spend the day in? Would love to hear some GL owner's comments...maybe a subject for a future video...GL or KL and why? Can't be always just about the bed and fridge. (or can it, lol?)

Hi Scott. I think the Rebl would be good for one person. Not a group. It s nice, but I think I personally I would pick something a little bigger. It would be nice for a weekend but not for full-time. I would like 4x4 in something like you have. Van were not meant to rock climb . However, to go up some back country roads and winter driving, it would be good. I have 4x4 because of the country I live in . Winter is six months long, and the road can be a bit challenging to drive. But I notice that a lot of dealers don't really talk about the insulating value in these van,s . My worrie is. Have the lines freeze up. It gets down really low here. Around -40 So, I really would have to do some after-market things to it so that would not happen. And price you pay for these van you shouldn't have too worrie about that. Lithium battery's have to be warm all the time or they don't work. Same thing if they get to hot. So I think changing would be a mistake. Having battery's under the van would prove to be challenging as well unless they are in a box that's heated .

I love the door mounted box, but I would love it even more if it were 3x the size and hitch mounted. Every RV has a hitch, but I never see any accessories for them. I would personally carry extra fuel and water. A suitable box on the back like that one seems the best place for those.

I know this was a previous model year Revel, but I didn't know you could get something like the GLSS for that rear garage! That's one of the things I like seeing on your channel besides people & places -- PRODUCTS! Another P! LOL No I'm not going to get one. Not going to get that European Class B van either. But it sure is fun looking at everything everyone else is getting. Not sure it even qualifies as window shopping. . . Virtual shopping???

Loofah over scrungie, definitely! The nylon rolls and doesn’t scrub as well IMHO. :) Other than that I’m neutral on the Revel. Love the rear bed, I love that it has a pantry!, not a fan of Mercedes or diesel. Could care less about the clearance or 4WD.

Go Small. Live Large! BTW, I would much prefer the cassette toilet. But that’s just me. I am a retired RN, so seeing that stuff doesn’t bother me at all. Hah. But we have yet to empty our black water tank. I’m dreading that. Dealing with an icky drippy hose seems much worse than pouring the stuff out. I’m sure I’ll get used to it. But with our few days of camping in the new T, before lock down - when we were careful but not paranoid about using public toilets in early March - we did most of our business at the campground potties. So my black tank level is still on E. I keep hoping it’ll stay there! (My husband is immunosuppressed, so that’s a job I have assigned to myself)

I wish I could get my wife to do a van. I like the GL bathroom. I like the KL twin bed. I like the Revel 4wd. I’ve seen custom builders build my epic van but a high price tag. It’s all irrelevant since my wife won’t live in a van for a few years. Looks like a Navion for us. That’s what the compromise is. Wish Volta did a Navion though. Great video Scott 👍🏼

The Salty Medic I’ve been lusting over the floor plan of the Wonder RTB. At least on the inside. We’re happy with the external dimensions and street space parkability of our new Travato. But still, that garage storage for bicycles in the back, +2 hanging closets under the beds and the larger bathroom and kitchen with pantry are certainly attractive. Wow. (And a real door, not a heavy slider. A girl can dream...)

The 2021 Revel does have Lithium, a different table and a better sink and a bunch more changes. (2) 125-amp-hour Lithium ion batteries w/dedicated second alternator to charge system Actually, a comparison between your buddy's 2020 and the 2021 version could be helpful since no one ever really compares previous with the newest version... It was a great video regardless of the volume problems, thanks for doing it and sharing it.

There are a few things I like about the Mercedes. I like the larger bed. I wish there was a way to use the bed with AND the dinette seats at the same time. And a way to make the rear dinette a bed and sleep 4 back there. In the Travato I like the larger bath, and kitchen dining table setup better. I would prefer the smoother ride in the Travato. I'm not a big fan of diesel fuel. I wish both vehicles were all electric. I like 4wd but doubt I would need it in rough terrain. More for snow and ice. That being said I wouldn't likely use much in the winter. If I were to use it in the winter, I would likely relocate it to a more inviting environment. I would be very pleased with either of those vehicles.

Very nice review and rig. However, we are not yet swayed away from the Embassy Traveler. Nothing is beating the North/South sleeping power beds, dry toilet, inside split system a/c, no propane, no generator or solar AND a beefed up lithium system with quick recharge. Keep the great content coming! We are anxiously waiting for the Nashville Embassy get together location in November. Hopefully we can make that get together. ~ J

Great video. Can you please post where he is going to get the lithium system installed on his Revel! If Winnebago would just put in a Volta system in the Revel I would do that in a minute. Disappointing that they have lithium in the 2021 but it is a tiny system compared to Volta, think that was a huge mistake. Only can run the a/c 2-3 hours.

Love the seating area in the back! Super! Can you use the drop bed partially lowered, or does it have to be all the way down for support? I was thinking of a possibility of having the benches turned into a bed and have the original bed as a "bunk". That way you could sleep 4?

I think the Travato is better for FT living. The Revel seems more like a weekend rig. Plus the Travato has a much better floor plan and the G has the better refrigerator. I've seen Revel's on the street and to me, the ones painted black look like something the government would send troops in to harass citizens. Travato much more elegant. Plus the Lithium system is so great. If you are out FT, I can't think of anything better for electricity.

Revel XL 170 4x4 in 2022 with a pop up will solve this. Hope it will have a slightly bigger bathroom, a bed in the back that is wider than the pathetic 49" wide current Revel bed, bigger bed means a bigger garage/lounge, better rear seat with 3 way belts that converts to a flex bed, 4x4, and a pop top! that will do it! waiting for it to come out. The 2022 Revel 170XL pop up will go from sleeping 1 comfortably now, to sleeping 4 and lounging 4 more comfortably.

the GL needs a 4 battery option versus the standard three -- they did it in NPFE - which is no more.. so there is an empty slot in the standard GL just waiting for another battery.. 11,800 watt hrs!!! baby ;-) .. come on Volta and Winnebago please the Volta fans......................................

TWO OTHER REASONS I LIKE THE TRAVATO. I WOULD LEAVE THE BED DOWN SO MY CAT COULD HAVE CAT BOX PRIVACY AND THE SCREENS ARE MORE STURDY. MY CAT WOULD HAVE THE REVEL'S OPEN IN A HEART BEAT. I WISH THE TRAVTO HADE 4WD, BUT I LIKE THAT I COULD HAVE IT LIFTED.

Personally I would prefer a bubble top fiberglass roof, I would like the more Headroom since I'm 6 hood and also gives you some more room on the interior. Also I would like to have an awning enclosure outside both front and back sides, it just adds to the livability Impala weather.

Hey Scott, I wish Winnebago would do a hybrid between the Travato and Revel. I just, for me, don't want that Sprinter chassis, too expensive to maintain the Mercedes Benz, not knowing if there will be some place close to have work done when out on the road and I don't like diesel. I wish the Travato came in a 4WD, I know you can get conversions. I just wish it would come from Winnebago with those option. They could name it the Trevelo..... lol

Excellent comparison. I have to agree with most of the earlier comments. Seems like the Revel owner is giving up a great deal to get 4-WD. Much higher cost (even higher after he adds a lithium system), ugly bed bump-outs on the outside, and it appears the a/c would only work with the bed lowered. The aftermarket rear dinette seems like a very worthwhile mod. I wonder if he considered the 3" lift kit that is available for the Travato?

A/c works with the bed up, a/c unit vents from the sides. Also bed can stop in any position (it's not just up or down)

@@kbtred51 Thanks for added detail on the bed mechanism. Based on the video @ 16 minute mark, it would have to be lowered at least several inches for the a/c to circulate air. Unfortunately, then you wouldn't have enough headroom to use the rear dinette based on the video @ 3 minute mark. On the plus side, the sliding floor shelf/tray is great mod for any class B with a "garage" floorplan (if it doesn't rattle).

I’d love to ha e a Winnebago Revel Boldt. Use the longer body and larger capacity Volta system in the Boldt and you would have an amazing van. Do not like standard Revel cannot run AC without external power... That’s why I’m leaning towards a 4x4 Boldt with a 3in lift and K02’s. Then put the Owl Van units in rear like he has and the front end Owl offers with a wench.
