Rock Hudson was not only one of the most beautiful men in Hollywood, he was also one of the kindest. Treated everyone equally, from the script girl to his costar. That was very unusual, and it endeared everyone he met to him. Patiently signed autographs and chatted with his fans. He deserved a “castle” since at that time, he was the King of Hollywood. His death was so tragic - back then, no one knew much about AIDS or how it could be spread. Just a wonderful human being.

He was quite a gentle man and very down to earth. I met him at a party in the late '70s and he couldn't have been more charming or more gorgeous.

Saw Ice Station Zebra when it came out, at the movies, up till then I just saw him in comedies. Later I saw Magnificent Obsession, another drama, I wonder if he ever sang and danced. The studios owned actors th ed n, and pretty much the actor did what they were handed. Well thank you Mr Nineg, you are a 10G in my book. How many times have you heard that one today? From the look of this magnificent property it looks like Rock took the saying "A mans home is his Castle" quite literally! I live on 2 & 1/2 acres in Queensland Australia, but that is where the similarity between my place and Rock's place definitely ends! My house would be lucky to make the guest quarters and the nearest Tennis courts are 45 minutes away! Many thanks for a look at this remarkable property!

I have no idea how many times I have seen the I LOVE Lucy episode with Rock Hudson. It is a classic. The CASTLE is beautiful, I would love to spend a weekend there.

Spectacular castle indeed! Amazing property! His beautiful co-star in many films, Doris Day, who was every bit as popular and famous, had a beautiful home in Carmel, California, but nothing to this grand magnitude. Hi, Just watched your video and I lived there at the time he died. My Uncle was the butler and I lived in the staff quarters until i moved to my own place in Pacific Palisades. That was in 1981 when i visited with my wife and my dad and then again in 1983. Rock was a true Legend and the kindest man ever. He opened up his house to us and we used to sit up and drink and chat about lots of his life. I worked with Clarence on the garden and in the green house as well as looking after all Rocks Cars.

Very funny scene..."would you like some Rock Mr. Candy?" He really excelled at comedy and his appearance on ILL might have been his first stab at it. After that he started making his first comedy films with Doris Day and both went to become #1 box office during those years.

It would be more accurate to say this is the site of Rock Hudson’s house. After Hudson died, the property was purchased by John Landis, who tore down most of the main house. The contemporary photos are of rooms that didn’t exist when Hudson lived there.

What a great video, Rick! How you unearth these tidbits of little known information continues to amaze me! You should be a detective. I knew that Rock Hudson was famous and wealthy during the 1950s and 1960s, but didn't realize just HOW famous and wealthy he was until I viewed your video. What a magnificent house and property ... but I wouldn't buy it for a penny more than $50,000,000.00! LOLOL!

Rick 9G--Another great video. I had forgotten about Rock Hudson's lines in his "I Love Lucy" episode. That was classic sit-com writing. Just imagine the annual real estate taxes associated with the Castle--they probably equal the original price Rock bought the place.

I loved the video of Rocks CASTLE! Beautiful. I loved all of Rock movies. Especially McMillan and wife! I loved Lucy so so much. She made me crack up. Gave me joy and laughter.. I watched Lucy everyday. She was better when you get to watch her from color TV and not black and white TV. I was just a little gal. I used to sneak when my dad wasn't home to watch I Love Lucy Show on our very first color tv.

I am not sure but Rock probably got an invite to Hearst Castle is perhaps why he named his home The Castle or maybe didn’t get an invitation so bought his own castle he just didn’t want all the wildlife I think. The home is nice for an entertainer but not for regular folks we’d be unhappy in it.I Love my home

I'm curious if this house started out as one house, i.e. a building in a Spanish Colonial style, built in the 1920's, before all these other buildings got added on. In a couple of shots around what looks like a wading pool, that seems to be the case.

Castillo/Castle: Lots is space. I like the kitchen and the privacy the most. It sad he died so young. He never got to enjoy the Freedom many of us gays ppl have today. I still think the Entertainment & Sports still discriminate or They’er limited just because one is gay. It’s ok for a St8 actor to play Gay but the other way around is not accepted.

Hopefully, things are changing. Hasn’t the exquisite Matt Bomer played straight guys? Neil Patrick Harris has, even after he came out. A few sports teams have been very accepting of gay players - not enough - but at least it’s a start. I don’t get what the big deal is. My boss is a lesbian, and we once took a trip for work together. She was sitting on a chair in my hotel room, and I needed to change clothes. Had no hesitation changing in front of her. Gay people don’t automatically get turned on if they see another person of the same gender changing clothes or are nude. Only ignorant idiots think that.

I should have added how many Closeted Actors even now,we don’t know,they’re In the closet,for fear of not getting or losing roles.?! It’s improved greatly but it’s sad. There’s no public outcry or much of a protest when a Straight is chosen for a Gay role. The writer or Producer something like that wouldn’t make the 50 shards if a st8 male wasn’t chosen.
