I turned 70 just this week and this is my best present! I grew up in a house very like this one. We ate from the garden, milked our cows and never even knew we were not rich. We had everything we needed and worked hard just because that was the way you did things. I still dream of living in the country with the nearest neighbors a mile away. And yes I got a little teary listening to you talk about your grandparents. If you can put all of your memories in a book.
I am with her on not wanting to leave grandma and grandpa’s house. For me it was my great-grandparents. They were wonderful human beings. Even if I did have to cut my own switch from time to time! I miss them so much. I am 60 and still grieve them.
My family is this story in modern times.. We live this way now.. Right down to our log cabin we built together.. Wood Cook stove no electric.. No worries other than rain for the garden
We ate from the gardens and had well water we didn’t have much we use play outside and drink water from the water hose and ate apples off the trees really miss Alabama life we as Cherokees lived on the resversation I really miss it
Takes you back to a time when people spoke kindlly and you respected your elders. I was blessed to have a scots cherokee grandmother and hardworking scots irish grandfather. Miss you both. Love the story of this house and family.
There’s still plenty who want to hear about the old days-some wishing they were born back when times were harder yet simpler, & people were truly neighborly!!! Many have made that dream a reality, with The Homesteading Movement, gaining popularity every day!!! Yeah! They bring along the internet, & in That instance, it’s a Great thing, bc they’re showing others!!!Gives me Great hopes!!!🥰🙏
Another heartwarming story told,Thank you,Ma'am, thank you Sir!! In the garden where memories bloom,I feel your absence,a deepening gloom,The love we shared, now lost in time, A silent whisper,a mournful chime. from the poem,Garden of Memories.Growing up going to the country from town, to visit my grandparents, I share many of the same memories. There is nothing that can replace or take away the joy of those days.😁
Yes! I used to complain about snapping beans and shucking corn. Now, I would give ANYTHING to be "setting" on the porch swing, feeling those East Tennessee breezes and snapping green beans, fresh out of the garden!
Virginia thank you for sharing your memories and the tour of your old home. I just love it. Old memories and old houses intrigue me! I loved the tour of your old home. In the tour, you mentioned where a bathroom was installed in the 1960's. That was kind of late for indoor plumbing. What are your memories of what you did before the bathroom was installed. Did you use a bed pan? A outhouse? If you had an outhouse, where is it? Hope it wasn't destroyed. What about running water? Was there a hand pump or a open well or cistern? Where is it. Did you have a hand pump in the kitchen? Wish I was there.
Thank you for sharing this was so wonderful. We just built our family 'forever home' one year ago..... and selected the four gables farmhouse... I saw your video thumbnail and this house is the same as our new home. Virginia you are so blessed and I hope one day my grandchildren are still coming back to enjoy staying at the family farmhouse in the summers picking food in the garden, sitting on the porch with lemonade, and having sweet dreams tucked in bed with homemade quilts of love. Thank you thank you for this special story you shared.❤
I loved this...reminds me of my Grandmother, and her city house, where she had 3 apple trees, a peach tree, a grapevine, a vegetable garden, a large rose garden, and flowers all along the sides of the yard. Every year, she put up canned goods, and apple, and grape jelly... Every night, we all had dinner around the table with fresh meats, and home grown veggies... The vegetables today don't taste the same. I miss those days, so...❤😢❤ What is the status of this house, I would love to purchase it, with some of the property!
My pa Tony & ma Fannies house was like thus but not 2 story ,we played under the porch & slept on pallets in the front room, thay had a outside toilet, they were the sweetest people to us g kids, I miss the simple days❤😢
This makes me miss home! My family has a small tobacco farm in NC. Growing up there was such a blessing! Seeing that garden makes me crave a fresh tomato!
A beautiful song, what little we heard..she needs to copyright it and let someone sing it. Everyone should hear it. She has a lovely voice. Maybe she could record it.

In the mean time I will email you about a cabin near North Wilkesboro that would be great to film for your channel. My 87 year old cousin knows the history on it.
